Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Solutions to Problems May Be Delayed, But They Will Not Be Absent
Chen Ze did not believe in gods, or rather, he never thought that such beings existed in this world.
Thus, Chen Ze was a staunch materialist, but now, in the restaurant’s kitchen, he was silently praying.
"If there really are divine spirits, please make sure this one comes out okay..." Chen Ze muttered to himself a few times.
Then, he finally opened the oven and took out the light cheesecake.

[You made a plain light cheesecake...]
A series of screen prompts followed, but not a single one triggered the special effects for dessert enthusiasts.
Chen Ze sighed. He had been wondering, if Yuna’s belongings carried misfortune, an intangible thing, then how could he solve it?
The first thing Chen Ze thought of was his desserts, out of all the dishes he could make, only the Dessert Lover’s could randomly bestow special properties to food.
Chen Ze felt that since things like Holy Light or Memory could be added, maybe luck could be attached as well?
So, if luck could be added, would it be possible to counteract the misfortune affecting Yuna?
Chen Ze decided to give it a try, but so far, after making a hundred portions, only two had triggered special effects—one granted Time and Space, and the other lingered with scent for three days, which was a disappointment to him.
"Ah, this is why I truly hate relying on luck!" Chen Ze felt like he was about to explode.
Since elementary school, he had never won another bottle when buying a drink, nor had he ever found an extra stick when eating a popsicle.
Or from middle school onwards, in any game involving a lottery, he never had a share; things others solved with a mere ten or so bucks, Chen Ze had to spend hundreds if not thousands.
Even the card-draw game he had recently taken a liking to had seen him systematically sinking ships, one particular game earning him the infamous ’Grandmaster of Africa’ title.
"Endless African tears, persistent European dogs..." Chen Ze sighed. He truly wished he could strike it lucky just once to help resolve the young girl’s problem.
"Wait, European dogs..." Chen Ze suddenly remembered that among his customers, there seemed to be a European dog; although not certain, Chen Ze thought that guy was the European dog.
After all, for other customers, special effects that were supposed to take hundreds of tries would trigger on his first visit.
Chen Ze scratched his head and peeked outside; Betty was mopping the floor, the dead Troll had already been thrown out, but the blood and stains left behind still needed cleaning.
The little girl sat quietly in her chair, with two empty plates in front of her. Chen Ze had given the specially effected light cheesecakes to her.
"Betty, come here a moment," Chen Ze waved his hand and called Betty in.
"What’s up, boss?" Betty looked at Chen Ze in confusion. During work hours, Chen Ze rarely called Betty in, except when it was time to serve dishes.
"Do you know how to contact Lafra?" Chen Ze asked. That damned European dog was Lafra.
Lafra, every time she came to eat, as long as she ordered a dessert, would basically have one that triggered special effects.
At first, Chen Ze thought it was a coincidence, but later he realized that Lafra was that so-called lucky charm to others, the European.
"Miss Lafra’s? Manager, I’m now living in the positive realm and really don’t have a way to contact her," Betty shook her head. Even if she were still in the negative realm, someone as important as Lafra was not someone she could expect to meet.
Even someone as formidable as Lafra was only accessible by a few in the entire negative realm—whether by status or strength, Betty was not the type to meet Lafra.
"Tch, this is kind of troublesome..." Chen Ze scratched his head irritably. He didn’t have a way to contact Lafra either.
But Chen Ze couldn’t possibly send Yuna back. After all, judging by the girl’s level of misfortune, Chen Ze guessed that probably just as she pushed the door open, a meteorite would come crashing down.
If Chen Ze didn’t know about it, that would be one thing, but now that he was aware, he felt he couldn’t just stand by and watch the little girl walk to her death.
"Looks like until the problem is resolved, I’ll have to let this little girl stay for now," he sighed. That seemed to be the only solution for now.
"Is the manager thinking of hiring Yuna as an employee?" Betty asked, puzzled.
"For the time being, that seems the only way," Chen Ze shrugged. What else could he do? If he didn’t hire Yuna, he would have to keep living without internet.
Chen Ze had come to understand the strange setup of his restaurant. When the restaurant staff was present, there was a signal, and internet connection and video streaming were possible.
But as soon as an Otherworld customer was inside, even just pushing the door open, the network would cut off immediately.
"Eh? What would Yuna be responsible for? And Manager, do you have suitable clothes for her here?" Betty knew very well what the job of a waitress entailed, and many tasks were not suitable for someone as young as Yuna.
For example, washing dishes—how could a little girl barely tall enough to reach the countertop possibly do that?
Chen Ze shook his head; of course, he didn’t have clothes that Yuna could wear. As a single man, why would he randomly have girls’ clothes at home, let alone clothes for little girls? freēwebnovel.com
Chen Ze certainly didn’t want to be arrested as a pervert.
"As for her responsibilities... I guess Yuna can just stand at the entrance and greet guests," Chen Ze decided that was all he could do. He wasn’t sure how the restaurant defined an employee, but if paying a salary without any work done meant being ruled out as an employee, it would be maddening.
"Okay, should I go out and tell Yuna?" Betty nodded, thinking it was not a bad solution.
"Wait a bit longer. If Stan or Lafra doesn’t arrive before closing, then tell Yuna," Chen Ze planned to wait a little longer, as it would be better to resolve things sooner rather than later.
Betty also nodded and carried the Paluda that Chen Ze had just made out to the dining area.
Chen Ze glanced at his phone; it was already 22:47, but not a single new customer had come in.
Yuna had already eaten three servings of Light Cheesecake and two cups of Paluda, and Chen Ze estimated she couldn’t eat any more.
"Hey~ Manager, give me a today’s special recommended set meal~" And then Chen Ze heard Hastur’s voice.
This made Chen Ze feel a lot better. It seemed like the solution to his problem had just arrived.
