Chapter 1661: Chapter 1662: Both Blushing

"Lord County Magistrate..." Madam Yan slightly bowed, also not expecting that Sikong Wuyou would come at this time, and immediately stand up for An Ning.

Sikong Wuyou quickly returned the courtesy, "No need for formalities, Mother-in-law. You can simply call me Wuyou."

This was also the first time Sikong Wuyou and Madam Yan exchanged such formal greetings.

"Since the lord has said so, then I shall take the liberty." Madam Yan sighed, "This girl An Ning is still young, and she has suffered with me since childhood, so she hasn’t had much time to learn proper etiquette. If there was any offense last night, I hope the lord can forgive her..."

"Mother-in-law, you worry too much. Last night, the wound on my arm reopened, and the residence was short of staff. Ningning was very concerned, so she stayed to take care of me for the night. It was my fault for neglecting Ningning’s reputation because of it. I sincerely hope Mother-in-law can forgive me..."

"Was the lord injured? Did you see a doctor? What did the doctor say?" Hearing that Sikong Wuyou was injured and An Ning didn’t return for the night, Madam Yan’s demeanor changed instantly.

"It’s no longer a problem..."

An Ning stood to the side, listening to Sikong Wuyou often addressing Madam Yan as Mother-in-law. This title sounded a bit awkward to her, yet she didn’t mind it; instead, it made her feel sweet.

After finally dealing with Madam Yan, Sikong Wuyou sneakily winked at An Ning.

That little gesture was kind of cute.

"Mother-in-law, I take my leave first." Sikong Wuyou cupped his hands, maintaining full courtesy.

Madam Yan was already charmed into a smile, "Ah, then you should quickly go back and rest. You can’t take the injury on your arm lightly. Be sure to care for it carefully."

Her main worry was that An Ning would be too forward and thus be looked down upon by the in-laws.

As it stands, Sikong Wuyou lives alone, without his parents by his side, and he is very fond of An Ning. This can only benefit An Ning’s future life and not harm it.

So, her initial concerns could be somewhat alleviated.

However, a girl’s modesty still needs to be maintained, and this is something Madam Yan has decided to slowly teach An Ning.

Seeing Sikong Wuyou had already left the yard, An Ning couldn’t hold back anymore.

"Mother, I’m going out for a bit." An Ning didn’t leave without finishing her words but blinked her big eyes at Madam Yan, seeking her opinion.

Madam Yan looked at her with a hint of exasperation, "Go ahead, but I tell you, talking a bit is fine, but doing anything inappropriate is absolutely not allowed..."

"I know, thank you, Mother. I’ll just say a few words and come back." Saying this, An Ning hurried outside.

However, just as An Ning stepped one foot out of the courtyard gate, someone caught her and pulled her into a warm embrace.

An Ning was almost so scared she screamed, but when she turned to see it was Sikong Wuyou holding her, she quickly covered her mouth, blocking the sound that nearly escaped.

"You scared me to death..." Her complaint was softly whispered at the gate of the small courtyard.

Sikong Wuyou helped her stand properly, then gently rubbed her cheek, asking, "Does it hurt?"

An Ning shook her head, "My mother was just putting on a show; she couldn’t bear to really hit me!"

"It’s all red." Sikong Wuyou directly exposed her lie.

An Ning retorted, "That’s because my skin is so tender, it turns red at the slightest touch."
