Chapter 10: REFLECTION

"Congratulations, Lord Azrael," Clara greeted with a bow as Azrael stepped out of the arena.

Azrael stopped walking and looked at her.

"What do you mean, congratulations? I lost," he said with a smile.

With those words, he continued walking.

The compound was filled with people who had just left the arena.

"Everyone who watched the match knew you were holding back. Moreover, you have shown two skills that could potentially counter Luke’s attacks."

Azrael smiled. "I lost, doesn’t matter whether I was holding back or not."

Clara was about to talk again, but she kept quiet.

After all, she could not drag things out with her Lord, no matter what.

"It is just surprising that he was able to win against Luke even though he awakened just a day ago."

The sky was already dark, a testament to the sun that had dipped beneath the horizon.

Soon, they entered the door that led to the main palace.

"What do you want, Erebus?" Azrael asked, looking at Erebus who stood by the door.

"We can talk while we walk," Erebus said.

Azrael did not say anything.

"The Patriarch has approved of your participation in the Nexus Convergence," he said.

He paused, waiting for any reaction from Azrael.

There was none.

At least, he saw nothing.

"You are to join the candidates for training starting tomorrow, 7 am."

"Don’t worry, I don’t want to join," Azrael replied with a sigh.

Erebus froze.

"It seems like you did not hear me."

"I heard, but it is too stressful."

Erebus looked at him for a moment.

’Something that everyone in the clan wants to get selected for, and he says no?’ Erebus thought.

Then he remembered what Abaddon had said earlier.

’He is truly like Dante.’

"Well, you can’t say no. From tomorrow, you wake up for training every day at 7 am."

Azrael looked at Erebus from the corner of his eye.

"Okay."

Azrael walked past Erebus without another word.

Clara followed silently behind him, her footsteps light and quiet.

Erebus stared at Azrael’s back before he turned away.

The main palace was as quiet as usual.

Maids bowed as Azrael passed them.

Clara took a step ahead of Azrael.

She pushed the door open and Azrael stepped inside.

The door shut softly behind him.

He did not bother with the lights. The silver orbs floating near the ceiling responded to his presence, dimming to a soft glow that filled the room with a quiet warmth.

He dropped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling for a moment.

"System."

Nothing came.

"System."

No response.

"System."

[Can’t you read the mood?]

The system replied.

"What mood?" Azrael asked with a smile. "Never knew something like you could understand the concept of mood."

[...]

"The mythic fruit I got in the newbie gift."

A fruit appeared in Azrael’s palm.

The fruit released gentle waves of essence into the surroundings, soothing Azrael’s body.

Azrael did not hesitate. He bit into the fruit.

The energy swarmed his body, almost tearing him apart from the sheer force it released.

He held on.

Having gone through a similar process with the previous fruits, he had expected this level of pain.

Slowly, he raised his hand, eating the other half of the fruit in a single bite.

A tremor swept from his position outward, scattering the bed and making the floor vibrate.

The feeling began to recede, gently.

Azrael breathed out, as if he had just escaped a murder attempt.

’The pain seems to get worse the more fruits I eat,’ he thought.

[You have gained a new skill: Coin Sovereignty.]

Azrael looked at the skill, his brows furrowing.

"Just that?" He wondered aloud.

[Coin Sovereignty: User can generate an infinite amount of coins that they control fully. Size, Mass, Speed, and Sharpness can be increased infinitely the more essence is infused into them.]

Azrael read the description.

"It doesn’t seem like much," he muttered, still unconvinced.

[Can I blame you? Others would die for a skill like this and you just wave it off.]

The system’s screen flashed in his face with an unamused emoji.

"You will never get a girlfriend like this," Azrael said, shaking his head slowly.

[Well, we are in this together. Two lives without a single lover is crazy.]

A laughter emoji appeared behind those words.

Azrael did not bother to argue with the system.

"Just wake me up by 6 am tomorrow," he said.

[What do I look like to you? A clock?]

The system asked with a facepalm emoji.

Azrael rolled his eyes slightly.

"Wake me up by 6 am. I really don’t care what you are."

Azrael did not care to listen to any more of the system’s words.

He stood up and pulled his clothes off, then brought out a fresh set from the wardrobe and placed them on the bed before stepping into the bathroom.

The soft sound of water hitting tiles echoed through the darkness, breaking the silence.

The sound stopped, and Azrael came out with a white towel wrapped tightly around his waist.

He dried himself quickly and changed into his pyjamas.

"Argh," Azrael groaned as he jumped into the bed.

"I really do not want this amount of stress in a new world," he said.

His arm lay across his forehead as he stared at the ceiling.

"But," he muttered, looking around. "It would be fun exploring a new world." free𝑤ebnovel.com

At those words, he turned, pressing his face into the pillow.

"I can’t explore this world without power because of how dangerous it is. So it all comes down to getting myself stressed."

Azrael sighed at those thoughts.

"Whatever. I will just try to reach the peak of this world quickly so I can enjoy it without stress and fear."

Those words were muffled, but Azrael meant every bit of them.

With that, a gentle breeze blew through the planet, passing through Azrael’s window and washing over him.

Azrael’s eyes had already fallen shut as he gave in to sleep.
