Chapter 14: 14. Boss Monster: Berserk Ape (2)

Nathan’s pupils shrank.

The Berserk Ape stood amidst the shattered clearing gripping an uprooted tree like it weighed no more than a wooden bat. Dirt still rained from its fur from the earlier [Focus Shot], blood dripping steadily from the mangled shoulder Nathan had blasted apart.

And yet, it barely looked weakened.

Then the monster moved, WHOOOOOM!!

The giant tree swept horizontally across the battlefield. "MOVE!"

Nathan threw himself flat.

The impact demolished everything in its path. Trees exploded into splinters. Branches shattered overhead. The sheer wind pressure from the swing alone slammed Nathan sideways through the dirt.

This wasn’t instinctive monster behavior, the Berserk Ape was commanding them. Like a general controlling troops.

A barrage of stones suddenly descended from above and nathan rolled to avoid them.

Relief lasted approximately half a second before the Berserk Ape charged.

Its massive body bulldozed through shattered vegetation while monkeys scattered from its path.

Nathan’s stomach dropped. "Oh you’ve got to be kidding me."

The giant beast raised the uprooted tree overhead.

Nathan activated [Sharp Eyes] harder then he dove sideways.

The tree smashed into the ground and the impact cratered the battlefield.

Shockwaves blasted outward violently, throwing dirt, stone, and broken roots everywhere.

Nathan barely avoided becoming paste.

The bastard wasn’t simply strong, it was tactical. But Nathan understood the pattern now.

The monkeys bombardment forced movement, Flankers restricted retreat options, Then the Berserk Ape attacked where Nathan would statistically be pushed toward.

Raid boss mechanics, actual fucking raid boss mechanics.

"Mirko!"

She bounced between branches.

"Pull right-side aggro!"

Mirko paused briefly.

She launched herself toward the densest concentration of monkeys.

Intentionally reckless and intentionally loud.

The swarm reacted immediately, perfect.

Nathan activated [Sharp Eyes] and drew three arrows.

First shot.

The monkeys noticed too late.

Nathan released the third.

The weakened stone formation collapsed violently.

Rock and debris thundered down the incline.

Monkey screams filled the jungle.

Mirko landed atop fallen stone proudly.

Nathan almost laughed but the Berserk Ape was still standing. Still healthy, Still terrifying, And now, the monkeys were changing tactics again.

Nathan frowned. Half the swarm disengaged from combat and rushed toward the Ape.

"What are they..."

Then he saw it.

The injured shoulder, the one ripped open by [Focus Shot].

The monkeys climbed over it, Covered it, shielded it, living armor.

Nathan stared. "No fucking way."

The Berserk Ape roared and the swarm intensified instantly.

Nathan fired.

Level 9.

Mana refreshed again.

But Nathan’s breathing had grown heavier.

The Berserk Ape remained absurdly durable and the monkey numbers barely seemed reduced.

The realization hit hard.

The boss wasn’t the real problem.

Even if Nathan somehow charged another full [Focus Shot], the monkeys would intercept it again.

Nathan’s gaze shifted toward Mirko, she looked rough now.

The Berserk Ape roared and charged again, nathan sprinted directly toward it.

Intentionally drawing aggro. "COME ON THEN!"

The giant fist descended, Nathan activated [Sharp Eyes].

The world sharpened violently and He slid beneath the swing by inches.

The impact obliterated the terrain behind him, Monkeys converged immediately.

Nathan shot knees, Shoulders, Winging injuries, Setups.

Mirko became executioner.

Nathan pinned another monkey against a trunk.

Another monkey lunged and Nathan shot through its ankle.

Nathan froze.
