Chapter 341: Rah’s Suggestion
"You did what?"
Damian shot to his feet so abruptly that Rin instinctively leapt from his lap before landing lightly on the couch. The pressure filling the room vanished, replaced by pure disbelief. Damian stared at Clara for only a second before immediately turning toward Rin, his brows tightly knitted together.
"How is this even possible?"
Rin looked up at him without the slightest hint of panic.
"Your sexual relationship with her improved both her physical and spiritual constitution over a long period of time. She was beside you throughout a significant portion of your new life, receiving far more benefits than an your wives ever could. Honestly, this shouldn’t surprise you."
Damian’s expression only became uglier. His thoughts immediately drifted elsewhere. If Clara had grown to this extent simply because of their relationship then what about every other woman he had ever slept with?
Did they all grow stronger like Clara?
He always knew this but he never gave it a thought.
"She does have a point," Rin continued calmly. "If your goal is truly to erase Heaven’s influence from this planet, then Clara is actually the more dangerous one. Between the two of them, Linda is the safer person to spare."
The room fell silent. Damian slowly turned toward Clara. His face twisted into an expression so conflicted that even Hazel frowned.
He looked at Clara, then Linda and then Clara again.
Finally, he let out a long, exhausted sigh before dropping back onto the couch. One massive hand covered his forehead as he closed his eyes.
These damned humans...
They were becoming more troublesome than the demons trying to kill him.
"So..." Hazel asked after waiting several seconds. "Who are we killing?"
"No one is killing anyone," Damian answered tiredly. "At least not yet. Let me think this through."
Clara stared at him in complete disbelief.
"You were actually considering killing me?"
Damian slowly removed his hand from his face. His deadpan stare settled squarely upon her.
"You dated a demon prince." He pointed toward himself. "Then you somehow thought getting yourself an Archangel companion afterward was perfectly normal."
He leaned forward slightly.
"And somehow I’m the unreasonable one for considering killing you?"
"Yes?"
Clara answered almost instinctively before hesitating midway through the word, sounding more confused than confident.
Rin immediately buried his face beneath one paw.
Rah watched the exchange from the staircase with quiet amusement. The more time she spent around Damian, the more she realized something.
The terrifying monster who slaughtered demigods without blinking was somehow the same man currently developing a headache because of his former girlfriend.
On the battlefield Damian was terrifying but at home he was painfully human. His household somehow managed to create chaos greater than most wars.
"Send us back," Clara finally said.
Damian immediately shook his head.
"You are staying here until I figure out what to do with you."
He stood once more. This time he did not wait for an argument. He simply turned and headed toward the staircase.
"Yay! New hostages!" Racheal cheered happily while throwing both hands into the air.
Damian rolled his eyes without slowing down.
Clara blinked and then she turned toward Racheal.
"What do you mean... new hostages?"
Linda asked the question before Clara could.
Rah had already begun walking upstairs behind Damian without paying either of them any attention.
Ruby couldn’t suppress a laugh.
"She tried assassinating Damian so he kidnapped her."
Ruby pointed toward Rah.
Silence.
Linda and Clara simply stared but neither could process the sentence. How exactly did someone kidnap the person who came to assassinate them?
Before either woman could ask another question, Linda suddenly felt an invisible force wrap around her waist.
"What..."
She barely had time to react before she was gently lifted from the floor and carried toward the staircase.
"Linda!"
Clara instinctively reached forward but she was too slow. She could only watch helplessly as Linda floated after Damian while Rah calmly followed behind them.
Several moments later Damian entered his bedroom.
The enormous room overlooked the dark ocean through a full glass wall stretching from floor to ceiling. Without saying a word he walked toward the liquor cabinet beside his desk, uncorked a bottle of whiskey and poured himself a generous glass.
He emptied nearly half of it in one swallow, only then did he turn around. Rah stood quietly beside the doorway and Linda floated beside her under Damian’s telekinetic grip.
Clearly he had chosen this room because he intended to enter Linda’s memories without interruptions.
"Is there a problem?" Damian asked.
Rah casually shrugged.
She walked across the room before sitting comfortably upon the bed. Crossing one leg over the other, she rested one elbow against the headboard.
"I’m bored, so I’m tagging along." She smiled lazily.
Damian stared at her for several long seconds and then he simply nodded.
"Fine."
His attention returned to Linda.
The invisible force gently lowered her onto the couch opposite his desk. Damian took the chair across from her. For several quiet moments neither of them spoke, only the distant sound of waves crashing against the cliffs outside filled the room.
Finally Linda broke the silence.
"So..."
She looked directly into his eyes.
"Is this where you kill me while your girlfriend makes sure Clara doesn’t see it?"
Damian slowly shook his head.
"I won’t touch you until I decide what to do about Clara. There is no reason to rush." He leaned back comfortably.
His gaze lingered upon Linda. Something about her continued puzzling him.
"What about you?"
She looked up.
"You don’t seem particularly afraid of me."
Linda thought about the question before answering honestly,
"Maybe it’s because I know if you decide to kill me, it won’t be slow."
She looked away toward the moonlit ocean for a moment before her eyes returned to him.
"I think you’ll make it quick."
Damian narrowed his eyes. He folded both arms across his chest and studied her silently.
Rah chuckled softly from the bed.
"I can see why you find mortals interesting."
Damian rolled his eyes while Linda glanced back and forth between the two demons. She still couldn’t understand their relationship.
Rah behaved far too casually around someone powerful enough to erase her existence without effort nor did Damian seem bothered by her constant presence.
Another sigh escaped Damian.
Truthfully killing Linda was becoming increasingly difficult. He held no resentment toward her. If anything he genuinely liked her personality.
Had they not stood on opposite sides, he probably would have tried seducing her long ago.
Rah noticed the conflict written plainly across his face so she quietly slipped off the bed. Walking around the desk, she stopped behind Linda before gently placing both hands upon her shoulders.
She began massaging them slowly and Linda stiffened immediately. Every instinct told her to move away but she didn’t. Hostages did not get to complain.
Rah smiled faintly.
"I like her."
Damian looked up to see Rah’s fingers continued kneading Linda’s shoulders as though making herself perfectly comfortable.
"Why don’t we keep her?"
Damian’s eyes widened ever so slightly. That was not a suggestion he had expected to hear.
