Chapter 130: Incident

"...What?"

I was. I don’t know what I was. I just felt a rush of blood flow to my head. The world seemed to fade away. I couldn’t really hear, there was just a bathump bathump, pounding in my ears.

The edges of my vision turned black, until I could only see what was right in front of me. But, even then I couldn’t focus on what that was.

The world turned into the sea as it swayed beneath my feet. I stumbled around barely hearing my mom’s voice cutting through my pounding heart beat.

She continued through choked up breaths, "Look, I don’t really have any details. I just heard that there was a fire and that she was found in the rubble. I tried pulling up the doorbell camera feed to see if I could find anything. But, the feed was wiped clean. So, I don’t know what happened at all."

I barely registered what was said before I replied, "oh, ok." Then I hung up.

...

After that I don’t know what happened. Time seemed to flow unbelievably slowly but a few days passed.

It was Friday, February 13.

I don’t know what changed but my despair changed to a mad curiosity. I had to know what happened. I had a feeling that there was more to the story than was being told.

The doorbell video feed disappearing was suspicious. In my delirium I was convinced that there was some kind of conspiracy. That there had to be more to it than just an accident.

I tried to remote connect to my computers back home and nothing worked. I could only connect to the warehouses and the one old computer left there.

I should have expected that, but I was hoping it was all just a dream. A bad nightmare.

I ordered a truck to come and pick me up.

I had it take me to the factory.

There I ordered them to load up the dead stock into the truck. But, they seemed reluctant to do that.

So, I said, "I’m the boss, what I say, you do. Now, load the truck."

After those stern few words they loaded up the truck. I grabbed the RAM testing device and hopped back into the truck.

Once we were back at the old inn I unloaded the boxes passing the couch left in the snow. I moved all of the boxes to the home theater.

Then I got back into the track and we set off for the big city of Sendai. It was a 2 hour drive there. When we were in Sendai I went to a bunch of tech and computer stores. I stocked up on a bunch of parts to build a few large towers of computers.

Or a server based design. I also got a few more StarConnect satellites.

I loaded everything up and strapped it down.

Then we made the 2 hour journey back.

Once back I started on building the racks for the tower.

For the rest of the day and through the night I worked on building my computers. Early the next morning I was setting up the satellites. One after another and connecting them to different sections of the towers.

By midday Saturday I had fully built and connected everything. Now to remake my hacking AI. Before, what had taken a long time, was now complete in two days and it was better than ever.

This AI was more comprehensive because I gave it much more data and storage to grow.

I hacked into the internet provider first to rehide everything and erase my tracks again. After flawlessly completing that. I moved onto the doorbell camera company’s servers. I made my way in easily and started searching for the feed from my home.

After searching for a while, I found that it had indeed been wiped clean. There was not a trace left. Well, that’s not really true. Because while the video was gone there was evidence of it being copied and transferred out.

So, the video still existed, I just had to find it.

I extracted the IP and started back tracing it. I ran into a pretty strong fire wall but the AI made short work of it. Then I was in, and I found out who was behind the cover up.

It was the FBI, the Federation’s Bureau of Investigation.

I was a bit shocked but that wasn’t going to deter me now. I wormed my way into their system, then I made sure that I had the highest access to view confidential information while staying invisible.

Then I kept searching for the video.

When I found the video it was attached to a file. The file was an investigation called, "Subject #2607 - Incident #005."

I opened the file and skipped all of the words I went straight for the video.

The video started with a nice car speeding into the driveway and screeching to a halt right outside of the downstairs doors, my doors.

Then an attractive, tall, buff, black guy got out of the car. He marched right over to the door and started pounding on it.

A few moments later he shouted, "Layla! I see you! What? Do you think you are too good for me now? Not responding to any of my messages! Now get your bitch ass over here and open the door!"

You could hear a muffled, "No! You need to leave before I call the police!"

It was Layla from the other side of the door.

That, however, seemed to piss him off even more.

He continued to shout, "Fuck you bitch! You think I’m scared of the police!? Try it bitch! I’ll get to you first! Ha! You think you can run from me!?"

He took a few steps back and held out his hand. Then under my astonished gaze a fireball appeared above his hand.

He then pulled his hand back and threw the fireball at the door.

Fwoom.

The sound of fire is all you can hear for a moment. Then he steps through the still smoldering doors entering the house and leaving the view of the camera.

The next sound you hear is a BOOM. I have lived long enough to know the sound of a gun shot. Which means Layla just shot the 12 gauge semiauto shotgun I had stored away.

Everything after that was a cacophony of screams that sent chills down my spine. The pain and agony in the screams was enough to fuel my hatred for a multitude of life times.

A minute or two later he comes walking out of the house back into view of the camera. His walk was calm and unhurried. It was leisurely like he was taking a walk at the beach.

He turned around and gave a malevolent smile as he threw a few more fireballs at the house.

Just before he got back into his car he saw the solar panels in the yard and threw another fire ball at them.

He watched everything burn for a minute before laughing and getting back into his car and driving away.
