Chapter 122: Third Offer
The next morning was like any other, I woke up, got ready, and had breakfast. Then I received a message from Kitsumi Kiyo asking me about what interior design I wanted.
The builders had fully gutted the place yesterday, now they needed to know how I wanted it to be built.
I sent back that warm minimalist was fine. I wanted something utilitarian while being warm to keep morale high. I didn’t want the workers to start feeling depressed because of the working environment.
Obviously the factory would be a sterile white, but the break, and management rooms could be more accommodating.
While I was thinking about what I wanted the interior of the factory to be like I started thinking about what I wanted the inn to be like. What I wanted to change, fix, or improve.
Because it was cold the first thing I wanted to fix was the windows. They were all single paned and covered in algae.
They really had to go. So, today I decided to go to the home improvement store and look for windows.
Xue Qing wanted to tag along because she would have been bored staying at home. We all got into the cars and set off.
At the home improvement store we immediately realized that they were not like the ones back home. They had a limited stock and their main home improvement supplies were flowers and fertilizer.
Since it was winter they had piles of salt bags right by the checkout. This is probably their main product in winter.
While they didn’t have a lot of stock on hand they had models on display that you could order.
From windows to floor samples, they had a basic selection of the most common types. A light wood type, a dark wood type, and a red wood type. Like I said, basic.
That included the window selection. Which got about as basic as you could get. The windows only had a few sizes and they all had a similar appearance. That was a typical window with a cross section in between the panes.
It was the stereotypical window. The exact kind I didn’t want. Plus most of the windows were floor to ceiling and they didn’t have any of those.
So, we went in search of a specialized window store. We really should have done this from the beginning.
The building right next door was the building material store. While they also didn’t have what I was looking for I could order it there and they would be delivered.
I know what I’m doing, so I gave the measurements for the floor to ceiling windows I was going to get. I decided to get a bunch of accordion doors.
That way in the summer I could open all of them up and really enjoy the outdoors. As for the other windows, they were all mass produced. The sizes were readily available, they even had the type I was looking for.
I wanted the windows to be one continuous clean pane. No dividers making sections and interrupting the view.
I think they are called either clear glass or full light. I didn’t know what the classification would be here so I just asked for no grid and he seemed to understand me.
He showed me an image and it was right.
So, I ordered the windows. The basic ones would be here in two days while the accordion doors would take about a week.
That was an acceptable time frame.
We then went back into the home improvement store and bought a whole bunch of sealant and window facenings.
I had installed windows before and they weren’t complicated so I was confident I could do it right.
When we got back to the inn there was another convoy waiting.
This time it was from Bharat.
I was greeted by a man with black hair and tanned skin. He said, "Greetings, Mr. Ambrose. I am Kabir Patel. I represent the AAJMB Consortium. They are requesting that you come work for us. They will give you housing, staff, security, and a very generous ₹50,000,000. Now, say you will come work for us."
I was honestly stunned for a solid ten seconds as this guy stood there with a smug smile and air of self importance.
I blankly said, "I don’t even know the specifics of what you are offering? Where is the house, how much does it cost?"
He responded matter of factly, "You don’t need to know the specifics. You just need to know that the AAJMB Consortium is calling on you. That’s all you need to know, now go pack your stuff."
"No."
"What?"
"No. I can’t agree to something I don’t know anything about. So, I won’t accept your offer."
"No. You will agree. The AAJMB does not take rejection. This is the AAJMB you will accept. Now. Let’s go."
"Naw. I’m not gonna do that."
As the tension was building and the body guards from both sides were inching forward. Kabir Patel huffed and said, "Fine! FINE! You don’t want what’s good for you, then we don’t need you. Let’s go."
With that they scurried into their cars then peeled out sending gravel and dust flying.
I’m not sure why he just mouthed off then ran away, but I’m sure that’s not the last I would be seeing of that guy.
But, with him gone, we were able to bring the supplies inside and get on with the rest of the day.
Since I knew in a few days I would be replacing the windows I went around the outside and started prepping the area.
I cleaned around the windows and removed any plants that would get in the way. There were plenty of dead sticks and branches to build a bonfire, but with burning regulations I couldn’t.
Which was such a shame. I need to get a standard fire pit so I can have little fires in the open courtyard whenever I like. That would be a nice piece of ambiance to have.
