Chapter 120: Second Offer

I quickly finished cleaning the windows that looked into the dining room.

When I was done I went inside to find that breakfast was made. Xue Qing had sent one of her body guards to the convenience store to get some groceries.

That same body guard had also made breakfast, some fluffy pancakes. Apparently having a commercial kitchen made it easy to make food. There was a griddle that made making pancakes a breeze.

Xue Qing and I eat our pancakes topped with syrup and a side of fruits upstairs in the living room.

While eating we resumed where we left off.

...

That was how we spent the day. The two of us watching TV and occasionally talking about our thoughts on what had happened.

It was a relaxing day.

The person who was the most productive today was the cooking body guard. Once the shopping centers opened he went out to stock up on food.

Raw ingredients to make meals and snacks to hold you over until meal time.

That night Xue Qing said, "I hope you don’t mind me staying longer than the weekend."

"I don’t mind, but don’t you have things to do?"

"I do. But, I know how to delegate and anything I absolutely have to see they will just email it to me. I really want to milk this vacation for as long as I can. Since, "talking you into signing the deal" counts as work. I will just hang out around here until you get sick of me or come to a decision."

"Sounds like a plan, but I will have work to do so I won’t be able to entertain you all of the time."

"That’s ok, I didn’t expect you to. I can find things to do."

With that another day came to a close.

...

Monday morning both Xue Qing and I were up around the same time. We got breakfast and decided that we couldn’t spend another day inside. Even though it was cold, today’s forecast was sunny.

We decided to go hike the trail that was famous in the area. They actually advertise the geological formations that you can see emerging from the sea.

When the sun came up and we were preparing to go I got a message from Kitsumi Kiyo. She said that the inspector was done and the construction company was ready, but I had to sign a few more documents.

Seeing the message I sent back, "Ok, where do you want to meet me?"

She replied, "At the site."

Looking at the message I said to Xue Qing as we were walking out the door, "Hey, sorry, looks like I had some work to do."

"Oh... that’s ok. What do you have to do?"

"Sign some documents."

"Thats it? Where do you have to go?"

"To the construction site."

"How about we drive you? Once you’re done we can still go hiking."

"Yeah, that would be great. Thank you."

We got into the Royal Rolls and pulled away. The body guards were both leading and following our car.

It was a strange feeling and it really worked to inflate your ego. I was feeling my pride swell just sitting in the car.

It would be unrealistic to say that I didn’t feel my self-importance grow from the situation.

We steadily made our way to the old fuel depot.

When we got there we saw a group of construction workers standing around, Kitsumi Kiyo was standing talking to a man in a dress shirt and pressed pants holding a clip board. There was also a very conspicuous convoy of expensive cars similar to the one I was currently riding.

Once we were stopped Xue Qing said, "I’ll wait in the car, the body guards will get out and look out for you."

I replied, "Ok, thanks."

I got out of the car and walked over to Kitsumi Kiyo. I said, "Hey, what documents do I need to sign?"

She looked at me, then said, "Right, I need you to sign the construction permits and contract."

"Ok, let me see them." I took the clipboard that the guy handed over at Kitsumi Kiyo’s direction.

Looking over the contracts they looked good and nothing was out of place. While signing I gestured toward the convoy and asked, "What’s up with them?"

Kitsumi Kiyo answered, "They are a company that wants to meet you and talk about a possible cooperation."

"I see. Then I will have to go introduce myself."

Once I was finished signing everything I walked over to the convoy with some of the body guards following me. When I got close the doors opened and a few body guards got out of the cars. One of the body guards opened the car door and a sharp guy in an expensive suit got out.

He looked like he was in his 30s and exuded wealth. He stretched out his hand and introduced himself, "Hello, I’m Michael Cavendish. I am here representing the Albion Consortium.

We would like to have you move to London and work for our consortium. But, perhaps we were a moment too late?" He was looking at the other convoy completely ignoring the body guards.

I replied, "No, I told them that I would have to see the other offers first. I would decide after. They are hanging around until I make my decision, and making sure I don’t get snatched up by someone else. If you get my meaning."

"Of course, we are a more passive consortium but some definitely wouldn’t be as relaxed. They would take rather drastic measures to either get what they want or prevent it from helping someone else.

Oh, but, please don’t think that I am speaking ill of them to try and influence your decision.

Anyway, I take it you are open to hearing our conditions?"

"Yes, of course. But, I will say the current offer is pretty good."

"Excellent. That means our decision has been proven to be correct. Now, let us skip the pleasantries.

My superiors’ offer is as such..."
