Chapter 29: The Weekend with Pulse
The weekend with Pulse became something the Sterling cousins would remember for the rest of their lives.
And they knew that years later, they would still talk about it. Not because Pulse was one of the biggest idol groups in the world.
But because the members turned out to be surprisingly normal. Well, normal by celebrity standards.
The villa was constantly filled with laughter. Movie marathons lasted until midnight. Board games became competitions. The karaoke sessions were chaotic.
Especially when Emily somehow convinced Leo to sing embarrassing songs while River provided dramatic backup dancing.
Even Robin eventually surrendered and joined the fun.
For two days, everyone simply enjoyed themselves. No cameras. No reporters. No schedules. No pressure.
Just friends making memories.
Among everyone, River and Nicole became noticeably closer. Not that anyone was surprised.
The two had practically attached themselves to each other from the moment they arrived.
Nicole was twenty years old. Standing at only five feet two inches, she looked tiny beside River’s six-foot frame. Her straight black hair fell neatly past her shoulders while soft bangs framed her face.
Combined with her black eyes and naturally cute appearance, she looked almost doll-like.
And beside her stood River. The youngest member of Pulse. The most energetic, most outgoing and most impossible to ignore.
His silver hair and silver eyes looked unreal enough that Nicole had privately declared him someone who had stepped out of an anime.
River had laughed for five straight minutes after hearing that. Yet somehow, he seemed pleased.
The two spent most of their time together exploring the villa, watching movies, and playing video games. They talked about everything and nothing, comfortably filling the hours with endless conversations.
Eventually, River grew curious about Nicolo, Nicole’s twin brother.
"You’re older by two minutes?" he asked.
Nicolo nodded. "Yes."
"And you’re taking the same course?"
Another nod. "We’re both studying Architecture."
River looked impressed. "So you have the same interests too? That’s pretty rare."
Nicole laughed. "Not exactly. He’s just a very protective twin. He wanted to make sure I graduated without any distractions, so boys weren’t allowed."
River immediately placed a hand over his chest as though his heart had shattered.
"Even me?"
Nicole’s cheeks turned pink. Before she could answer, Nicolo flicked her forehead.
"Ouch!" Nicole complained, rubbing the spot.
Nicolo then turned to River.
"I’ll make an exception if my sister is happy. We’re graduating this year anyway, so maybe I’ll allow it."
River’s face instantly brightened. He extended his hand.
Nicolo looked at it for a moment before nodding and shaking the idol’s hand.
By the end of the first day, the others had stopped asking where River was.
The answer was obvious.
Wherever Nicole happened to be, River wasn’t far behind.
Despite the happiness surrounding everyone, Chris wasn’t completely satisfied.
Specifically because he was sleeping alone. The first night at the villa had been painful for him.
Not for Liliana. After all, they were trying to be careful. The members of Pulse still didn’t know he was married. And the Sterling cousins were doing their best to help keep the secret.
Therefore, Chris and Liliana had been assigned separate rooms.
A decision Chris strongly disagreed with. Unfortunately, everyone else outvoted him. Including his wife.
"You’ll survive one night."
Those had been Liliana’s exact words. Chris considered them cruel.
The following morning, the smell of breakfast drifted throughout the villa.
One by one, sleepy guests emerged from their rooms. Only to freeze.
The dining table looked like something from a luxury hotel.
Fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes, bacon, toast, pastries, juices, and coffee.
Everything was arranged beautifully. The presentation alone looked professionally prepared.
Everyone stared, then turned to Liliana.
"Did you make all of this?" Mary asked.
Liliana nodded. "It wasn’t difficult."
The entire room collectively disagreed. Even Robin looked impressed.
Leo sat down while examining the dishes.
"You’re really good at this."
"Thank you."
"You cook every day?"
"Most days."
Leo frowned slightly. The answer sounded oddly familiar.
Not like a young fan. Not like someone living independently.
More like... A wife.
He observed her quietly throughout breakfast.
The way she served food. The way she checked whether everyone had enough. The way she automatically prepared coffee before anyone requested it.
Everything felt natural. Practiced. Comfortable.
Eventually, curiosity won.
"Liliana."
She looked up. "Yes?"
"Are you married?"
Silence.
Several cousins immediately looked away. Emily nearly choked on her juice.
Chris almost dropped his fork.
Meanwhile, Liliana smiled naturally. "No."
Chris secretly relaxed.
Then she added, "But I do have someone special."
Leo nodded.
That explained it. Whatever the relationship was, she clearly cared deeply about the person.
Across the table, Chris suddenly found breakfast much more enjoyable.
The rest of the day passed wonderfully.
They explored the villa. Played games. Watched movies..Took photographs.
And by afternoon, someone suggested swimming.
The idea immediately received unanimous approval until the girls discovered something. Swimsuits had already been prepared. Their screams echoed throughout the villa.
"What?!"
"There’s no way!"
"Who picked these?!"
The boys wisely remained silent.
Meanwhile, Emily stared at one particular swimsuit.
Then slowly smiled. "Oh..."
Mary immediately recognized that expression. "No."
Rose also backed away. "Absolutely not."
Emily lifted a white two-piece bikini. "Oh yes."
Both girls turned toward Liliana.
Liliana stared. Then stared harder.
"No."
Emily nodded.
"Yes."
"No."
"Definitely yes."
"Emily."
"Liliana."
Five minutes later, Mary and Rose had joined the conspiracy.
Twenty minutes later, Liliana lost.
The boys were already gathered around the pool when the girls finally appeared.
Conversation stopped completely.
The boys stared.
The Sterling cousins were beautiful..Much more beautiful than anyone had realized.
Without casual clothes, without oversized shirts, and without hiding behind comfortable outfits.
They looked stunning..Even Aaron looked surprised.
Nicole looked adorable in her swimsuit. Rose looked elegant. Mary looked sophisticated. Emily looked like she had stepped out of a magazine.
But then, Liliana appeared. And everything changed.
Her appearance felt different. Her usual pigtails were gone.
Her long brown hair cascaded down her back. Her glasses were nowhere to be seen. The sunlight reflected against her sparkling emerald-green eyes. She wore a simple white two-piece bikini.
Nothing flashy. Nothing revealing compared to modern standards.
Yet somehow, she stood out more than everyone else.
There was something unique about her. A mature innocence. A gentle confidence. A warmth that made people look twice.
The entire pool area fell silent.
Then River spoke. "Wow."
Aaron nodded. "Wow."
Even Leo looked surprised. "Now I understand why everyone keeps calling her pretty."
Chris stared and forgot how to breathe. Because there was one important detail. He had never seen her like this before.
Not once. Not in five years.
Their marriage had never progressed that far. Which meant this was the first time he had seen so much of her.
The realization nearly broke his self-control.
Then Leo casually smiled. "Wow. Lily is prettier without her glasses."
Chris froze. Lily. Only Nathan was allowed to call her that.
Well, not allowed. But barely tolerated because he was her cousin.
But hearing another man use the nickname immediately irritated him.
Everyone watched as Chris stood. Then calmly walked toward Liliana.
Unfortunately for him, everyone knew exactly what he was doing.
Emily immediately grabbed Robin’s arm.
"Look."
Robin sighed. "Oh no."
Chris stopped directly beside Liliana. Close enough that nobody could accidentally stand near her. Close enough that everyone understood the message.
Liliana looked up, confused.
"Chris?"
"Yes?"
"Why are you standing here?"
"I felt like it."
Emily nearly fell into the pool laughing. Rose covered her mouth. Mary looked away. Nathan rolled his eyes.
Even Leo appeared amused.
Only Liliana remained completely unaware. But Chris ignored them all. Because every few seconds he caught another member looking at his wife.
And somehow, that annoyed him more than it should have.
Robin watched the scene unfold. Then leaned toward Emily.
"He’s getting worse."
Emily grinned. "Oh, definitely."
Neither of them noticed the figure standing beyond the villa gates. Watching and waiting. Observing every movement. Especially Liliana.
The same person who had sent the photographs and who knew the secret.
And soon, the peaceful weekend was about to come to an end.
