Chapter 98: Chapter 98: This Madman Is Really Interesting

"Uncle Xiong, I’m missing a kidney..." Jiang Che put down the folder, holding a dark asphalt-colored body scan, pointing at the kidney’s spot, then at his own wound.

"What happens if you’re missing a kidney?" A cool, sharp voice came through his mind. He could already hear the anger in it. Xiong Jie knew that if he didn’t explain himself right now, he’d probably get caught in the fallout too.

Xiong Jie understood that the Master could keep an eye on his situation at all times. He thought it was just an occasional glance, but it turned out to be relentless, every second.

Previously, the Master hadn’t stepped in to stop him, so he figured whatever he did—teaching Jiang Che to shop for free, or how to lie—none of it mattered to the Master.

But now, Xiong Jie realized:

The Master cares about Jiang Che’s condition more than he’d thought.

"Your body’s fine right now, so it’s not a big deal. I looked at your recent health records—you’re healthy. Later, we can pay to find a match, or use an item to buy one. We should be able to find a suitable one and get it transplanted." Xiong Jie spoke to Jiang Che, but he was also talking to the Master at the same time.

Before he checked Jiang Che’s file, he never expected Jiang Che would be missing a kidney.

"Can’t you get your old one back?" Ding Ning stared at the screen. She’d just had Tuantuan call out to her, excited to show Jiang Che’s past, thinking maybe his growth would be visible in the records.

But instead, she saw this scene.

On the massive light screen, every file and every word Xiong Jie went through could be seen clearly by them.

"The one you had before—it’s not possible to get it back." Xiong Jie said, speaking both to Jiang Che and the Master.

"Because human organs, even if you can match them, his body was always frail—he can’t take all that tossing back and forth."

Plus, even if you try to transplant it again, there’s no guarantee it’ll work.

Fragile things are never fit for repeated punishment.

"Right now, our best bet is to find you another one." Xiong Jie let out a sigh. Finding a match was hard enough, and now with the supernatural descending, so many people are dead. It was already like looking for a needle in a haystack, and now that’s only getting worse.

"But even if we can’t find one, you don’t need to stress over it. Usually, you can live normally with just one kidney—you’ll be a bit less fit, but with our rank system now, body problems aren’t as big a deal." Xiong Jie couldn’t promise he’d definitely find a match for Jiang Che.

Jiang Che silently flipped through his own files, seeing his data uploaded ever since he’d entered the psychiatric hospital. Tuantuan’s request for a call echoed in his head.

He only hesitated a second, then accepted the call.

"Daddy, Tuantuan will help you get it back." Tuantuan’s voice was childish, but certain.

The voice call lasted just a moment, then switched to video. He could see Tuantuan’s side, and Tuantuan could see his.

He saw Tuantuan and Ding Ning standing together, big hand holding small hand, the two leaning together.

"How did you guys know...?" Jiang Che felt lost, his eyes unconsciously turning wet.

He’d meant to take all this on himself, planned to keep it secret, if he could find a new kidney, great; if not, he felt his body would manage anyway.

"Uncle Xiong cares about you, so he told us about your situation."

Jiang Che tipped his head back. He didn’t blame Xiong Jie for telling Ding Ning and Tuantuan—he just wasn’t used to this kind of concern.

Suddenly people were sharing his heartbreak and pain, suddenly someone cared if he was okay out there, if his body was healthy.

He didn’t want his family to suffer with him, but unexpectedly, having someone care felt kind of nice.

"It’s fine, Uncle Xiong said so, right? You can live with just one. I’m totally fine now." Jiang Che said, bouncing in place twice.

Ding Ning let out a snort of laughter. Jiang Che’s body really was fine, but that wouldn’t stop her from helping him reclaim what was his.

Too bad, all those people in the hospital—they died inside the dungeon. Otherwise, she definitely wouldn’t have let them die so easily.

Xiong Jie watched Jiang Che’s actions from the side. He didn’t know Jiang Che was on a call with Tuantuan; just saw him bounce in place out of nowhere.

Was he trying to prove his body was still holding up?

Kinda funny.

Xiong Jie scanned through the psychiatric hospital’s info once more. Other than the patient records, there wasn’t much useful.

The computer here was online, so he uploaded the files straight to his cloud drive.

Once home, he’ll check through them carefully—maybe there’s something helpful there.

He didn’t delete anything, didn’t change anything.

These records proved Jiang Che’s history could stand up to scrutiny. Jiang Che’s mental issues weren’t new.

Jiang Che put down his own file, then quickly searched for his friend’s file.

Before long, he spotted Ren Fengxiang’s name on another cabinet.

This file was right up front, dust gathering on the folder’s cover.

The location of his own file, though, was spotless—seems like someone handled it often.

Jiang Che reached out and pulled out that file. Seeing what happened to the person listed inside, he’d already braced himself.

First page—a familiar ID photo of his friend, buzz-cut, wearing the same blue-and-white striped patient outfit as Jiang Che.

The person in the picture smiled brightly. Jiang Che looked through—just childhood info in the front pages.

He went straight to the last page. He only cared about his friend’s fate.

Xiong Jie said nothing, just kept copying files to his cloud. Seeing Jiang Che take out another file, he figured that’s definitely the friend’s record.

The last page had only a brief, scribbled closing note.

[2028/02/14; successful heart match, final health check before discharge, then transferred to City First Hospital...]

The psychiatric hospital couldn’t perform surgery, so they did it outside after release.

Jiang Che’s fingers traced the smooth A4 paper. The silken texture made those words feel extra cold.

"Uncle Xiong, where’s City First Hospital?" Jiang Che’s eyes were empty, and even though he’d guessed the worst, seeing it spelled out hit him hard.

"Kidneys, you’ve got two. Hearts, only one." Xiong Jie said softly. He hoped that when Jiang Che learned the human basics, he’d come to terms with it.

"I still want to go see." Killing intent stirred in Jiang Che’s chest. The loss of his kidney hadn’t hurt him this much.

"Alright, I’ll take you. But let me tell you, City First Hospital had a dungeon event hit it a long time ago. Afterward, they rebuilt the hospital on the old ruins, but lots of records disappeared."

Jiang Che’s friend’s records probably got wiped out after that.

They say the records vanished after the dungeon, but Xiong Jie knew, dungeon events were always a perfect excuse to clear out messy accounts.

The weird dungeons have been happening since 2025—five years now.

These five years, humanity barely scraped by, but as initial chaos settled, people learned ways to cope—guides online, even livestreams, all helping teach survival in dungeons.

Xiong Jie searched Red Pearl City First Hospital, and did a double take—the record showed clear as day:

2028/02/14, Red Pearl City First Hospital, supernatural dungeon event started. Dungeon level: A.
