Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Is This an Initiation Ceremony?
"Then why doesn’t Ning do it?" If you really asked Jiang Che which world he preferred, he would say, without hesitation, the Evil Spirit Realm.
He had thought he wasn’t suffering; after all, he’d spent all that time in the psychiatric hospital, and he didn’t consider that suffering.
But it wasn’t until he looked at those files in the psychiatric hospital that he realized, this world was unfair—to him and to his friend alike.
When he heard that some evil spirits wanted to connect the two worlds, he was secretly delighted.
"Because Ning suspects the forest will expand along with it."
"Maybe we’ll gain something in this round of territory struggle, but most of the land will be devoured by the forest."
"Then do it, I don’t mind." Jiang Che’s face was expressionless.
He didn’t like this world. If doing this benefited his wife, he didn’t mind if she went ahead with it.
"But Ning doesn’t want the Human Realm to be destroyed just like that." Hua turned her body; she could read Jiang Che’s mind, and Jiang Che didn’t seem to care at all about the fate of the Human Realm.
Just like when Jiang Che went out—he searched the archives for his friend’s info, finding document after document of physical examinations; saw endless lists of matching tests from childhood to adulthood; saw his missing kidney; saw other patients’ occasional pale faces...
And then there was the nutritional meal he’d looked forward to since he was young, the best food in the psychiatric hospital.
Only now did he realize—those so-called nutritional meals were just pre- and post-surgery diets for bodily management.
"Don’t you remember what you said?" Hua turned and looked at Jiang Che.
"I... what did I say...?" Jiang Che tried to recall, but after a long time, he couldn’t think of himself ever saying he wanted to protect humanity.
Seeing his confused look, Hua angrily waved her thorny branch, and Tuantuan just came over to tug at Jiang Che’s sleeve.
"Daddy, did you forget?"
"You said you’d take Mommy to ride the Ferris wheel." Tuantuan’s big black eyes stared intently at Jiang Che.
"You said the Human Realm is full of beautiful places, fun places—you said you’d never gone or seen any yourself."
"You also said, if you ever had the chance, you’d take us too."
Jiang Che paused mid-step, his mouth open, as all the memories flooded back.
He didn’t even know himself what he had said, because he’d overheard most of it from doctors and nurses chatting.
"If the two worlds merge, all of these things will vanish."
"Last time, when the hunting grounds arrived, Mommy’s projection entered the Human Realm; you said we could go to the city and eat delicious food, but when we got there, the hunting grounds descended, humans were hiding everywhere, and everywhere was the breath of destruction."
Xiong Jie was listening from behind. The Lord wanted to separate the two worlds—he’d analyzed many reasons, considering all sorts of interests; like maybe, after the worlds fused, she’d profit less than other Lords, or maybe it was because she was conservative, preferring defense over offense.
No matter how much he analyzed, he never guessed that the Lord’s only reason was the scenery Jiang Che spoke of.
Jiang Che opened his mouth, "I get it."
"When we go back, I’ll work hard to investigate, and together with Ning, I’ll help stop the merging of the worlds."
"But..." Jiang Che hesitated, "If the worlds stay apart, Ning might not be able to go see those places with me..."
His heart was full of contradictions—on one hand, Tuantuan and Ning wouldn’t get to see the sights he’d talked about, so whether the world stayed or not didn’t matter to him.
The duty of protecting the world was so heavy; he, someone everyone saw as mentally ill, what right did he have to protect the world?
Ever since he went to the archives, he realized he was considered abnormal—mentally ill.
All those "normal" people only cared about fusing the worlds, about becoming stronger, about stealing territory from evil spirits, about entering the Superpower Era.
No one else cared if the world was destroyed, so why should he?
But today, Ning gave him an answer.
No one cared what a psychiatric patient thought, but Ning cared, Tuantuan cared too.
"But Daddy, you never saw it yourself—you grew up in that place. Mommy said if you don’t go see it, it’ll be such a regret."
Zhou Ang listened in, not knowing what happened before, but from Tuantuan’s words, he could tell Jiang Che’s wife thought differently from other evil spirits.
She was trying to protect the Human Realm.
Just because Jiang Che mentioned places he hadn’t seen, she wanted to help keep all that beauty for him.
Jiang Che stood still, feeling his chest tight and stifling.
"Uncle Xiong, were you ever eaten by Sister Hua?" Zhou Ang, seeing everyone silent, wanted to break the calm.
Sister Hua?
Xiong Jie’s eyes went wide—this kid had never seen the terrifying real form of the "Sister Hua" he talked about. If he did, he’d never dare call her that.
"Eaten... Yeah, I got eaten together with Jiang Che." Xiong Jie didn’t even want to remember how close he was to pissing himself out of fear back then.
Zhou Ang nodded thoughtfully. After observing Jiang Che and Ning, he was for the first time curious about evil spirits.
He recalled how Hua tried to eat him—and maybe it was his fear that made her drop it.
Getting eaten by Hua—is that some kind of initiation ritual?
With that thought, when he looked at Hua again, he felt no fear.
"Sister Hua, can you eat me too?" Jiang Che and Xiong Jie had been eaten; he felt only then could he really fit in here.
Shared experience, better comradeship.
"Are you nuts?" Hua was so annoyed, she actually laughed.
"Isn’t that required?" He remembered Jiang Che really was mentally ill—he frowned; mental illness wasn’t something he could control.
"Get lost." Hua irritably whipped Zhou Ang with a thorn branch.
Zhou Ang felt the force—surprisingly, it didn’t hurt!
Of course, Hua never hurt anyone. Ever since Ding Ning told her Jiang Che would die with a poke, she had entirely restrained herself when whipping Zhou Ang just now.
"Where’s Ning now?" Jiang Che asked.
"With those humans, but that place isn’t called Six-Star Pond—the real place humans were sent is called Chaos Zone."
"Chaos?" Jiang Che was stunned. Wasn’t it supposed to be a rule-based Dungeon?
"It’s a place made for humans to die, set up by those other Lords. They want to use countless flesh and blood to widen the gap between the Human Realm and Evil Spirit Realm."
