Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Watching the Moon All Night

As soon as Tuantuan finished speaking, Fei Hu saw Jiang Che holding Tuantuan, and without another word, carrying her out to the villa’s garden. The two of them sat on the lawn, pointing up at the huge full moon above their heads, gazing at the moon together.

With Jiang Che gone, Xiong Jie and the others felt too awkward to stay in the room any longer, so they found an excuse and left.

Fei Hu stood there, dazed. She turned her head to look at the mirror on the vanity beside her.

Then she turned back to the butler at her side, "Uncle Zhao, am I not pretty?"

"Miss, what are you saying? I’ve seen so many female streamers, some naturally beautiful, some with plastic surgery, but your looks are definitely top grade." Butler Uncle Zhao looked at her with loving affection. He had always been the house steward for Fei Hu’s family and watched her grow up.

"Then why would he...." Fei Hu fell silent. She walked over to the window of the room—this spot allowed her to see Jiang Che and Tuantuan sitting on the lawn.

Jiang Che was holding Tuantuan in his arms, pointing at the moon above, saying something she couldn’t hear.

"Maybe he... is just like that. But that kind of sincerity is rare—in fact, if he ever really falls for you, he’ll never leave you." Butler Uncle Zhao smiled. "I really haven’t seen anyone so pure in a long time."

"Give it time. Maybe he just hasn’t been through enough yet. He doesn’t really understand love," the butler shook his head, signaling the young lady not to be anxious.

"Let’s hope so." Fei Hu stood by the window, looking at the two below.

Jiang Che held Tuantuan, and the two of them gazed up at the moon overhead.

Following along, Tuantuan cast an Illusion Technique for Jiang Che. Though called an Illusion Technique, it was actually a video call only visible to him alone.

In Jiang Che’s field of vision, Ding Ning’s figure was cast beneath the full moon, appearing right before him.

"Baby!" Jiang Che stood up excitedly.

Ding Ning smiled at Jiang Che. This was a skill she’d been working on the past couple of days; using the power of the full moon, she created an environment for Jiang Che connected to the Dungeon.

A sort of encrypted, holographic video chat.

Ding Ning reached out and took Jiang Che’s hand, and with him and Tuantuan, returned once more to the lawn—a family of three leaning together.

"I can’t come see you for now, during this Hunt, but soon there should be a chance." Ding Ning rested her head on Jiang Che’s shoulder. Even though she was only an illusion, she still felt deeply content.

Jiang Che gazed at Ding Ning leaning against his shoulder—there was no physical sensation, just a projection by his side. He didn’t dare move a muscle.

Ding Ning watched Jiang Che, that cautious, fearful look as if she might disappear at any moment. She didn’t say anything, though; she found him so cute like this.

"I saw in the reports, they say the two worlds might merge soon..." Jiang Che was curious about what that would be like.

"Yeah, if things keep going like this, it shouldn’t take much longer."

"From what I know, both humans and evil spirits—there’s a black hand behind the scenes pushing all this," Ding Ning shook her head. She didn’t keep any of this intel from him.

"So does that mean we could be together all the time after that?" The first thing Jiang Che thought of when he heard the worlds might merge was how he could see his wife every day.

"Yes, but... the merging of worlds isn’t as beautiful as it sounds." Ding Ning sighed. If it were just a pure fusion, that would be one thing.

But right now, both sides were scheming about the whole matter.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to explain specifics to Jiang Che, she just didn’t know where to begin.

"Don’t worry, I’ll protect you. I won’t let anyone hurt you." Jiang Che reached for her hand—only to pass right through the holographic figure.

"Mm. I’ll protect you too." Ding Ning didn’t have high hopes for humanity’s future. Dark Star had probably been tricked by humans, but he wasn’t the only SSS-rank Lord.

With Dark Star dead, the others would just carve up his territory. Besides, his strength had waned year by year, so even his death wouldn’t change much.

Ding Ning leaned against Jiang Che’s shoulder, her attention drifting outward.

Tonight marked the descent of the Hunt. Because Tuantuan was here, many evil spirits sensed the aura and kept away from this area.

But the city Jiang Che had just come from was now filled with blood and slaughter.

He’d rescued Zhou Ang and his mother, left the city, and hadn’t seen the carnage and violence firsthand.

Ding Ning’s face darkened. If possible, she would’ve wanted Jiang Che never to learn about those things.

After so many years of fighting, the two worlds had become completely hostile camps.

Once the worlds merged, the slaughter would only grow fiercer.

Ding Ning’s eyes turned somber. "If, in the future, we’re still like this—only able to meet once every ten days—would you miss me?"

"I would miss you every day."

"I learned so much today, ate so much good food. Next time you come..." Jiang Che stopped midway, stunned.

Before the Hunt began, he’d eaten so much, played so much.

But after the Hunt descended, he originally wanted to take Tuantuan into the city for fun.

Yet when they arrived, there were no street vendors, no open shops; even the city’s colorful lights looked strange, every streetlight, every building’s lights, every room’s lights were switched on.

The nights before had never looked like this. It was his first time seeing such a night as bright as day.

The lights shone bright, yet still couldn’t dispel the city’s heavy sense of fear.

Turning on every light seemed to have become a way for humans to keep terror at bay.

Jiang Che realized that if next time his wife came to see him, it would likely be when the Hunt descended again.

If they went out to eat then, they’d see the same scene as now.

Panic everywhere, screams everywhere, no street sellers to be seen, just people fleeing and teams hunting evil spirits everywhere.

Jiang Che fell silent. He both wanted his wife to visit, yet feared she’d be disappointed—because it was nothing like he’d described, not at all fun.

Jiang Che couldn’t help but wonder if the worlds merging might make things better.

If everyone got used to coexisting with evil spirits, then he could take his wife to try all the fun things and food here.

The sky slowly lightened, the gigantic full moon’s silvery glow fading to gray.

The moon was shrinking, almost back to its usual size.

Jiang Che sensed that Tuantuan and Ding Ning’s illusion beside him was about to dissipate.

He held Tuantuan and walked out of the villa, heading toward the city.

Just one look—he wanted to take his wife to see the city, to look at the world of the living.

"Miss, Young Master Jiang has left," the butler reported to Fei Hu in her room.

"Did he go by himself?" Fei Hu glanced at the fading moon—the Hunt was about to end.

"He left using Earth Escape with the little girl. It’s one of the skills he got from the Dungeon."

"He probably saw dawn approaching and took the little girl home. It’s better now that she’s gone, hmph!" She hadn’t imagined that little girl would keep Jiang Che moon- and star-gazing the entire night.
