Chapter 122: B - The three rules to avoid getting kicked out

"Eliss, we seriously need to talk about what you did."

"A-Are you angry with me...?" Eliss murmurs, kneeling beside the futon where Aoshi lies, devastated.

"Angry?" he repeats, barely holding back a shout. "Of course I’m angry, Eliss! I AM FUCKING FURIOUS! You killed Renji, and if I hadn’t stopped you, you’d have killed Miori too! What the fuck is going through your head?! DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT’S NORMAL?!"

"I-I’m sorry, Aoshi..." Eliss sobs, tears running down her face, terrified by his sudden outburst. "I-I... I did it to protect you... sniff... sniff... those two hurt you so much that... that I couldn’t do nothing..."

"Yes, they were wrong, but you don’t kill someone for something like that! In the place you come from, is life worth so little? Does your whole race kill this easily? It’s absurd..."

Eliss says nothing — her tear-filled eyes fixed on the floor.

"And for what, then? To avenge me for a stupid fight that landed me in bed for a few days with some painkillers? What the hell were you thinking?! I’m honestly disappointed and disgusted by what you did..."

Once again, Eliss doesn’t answer.

She reaches a trembling hand toward his — trying to lace her fingers through his — but Aoshi immediately pulls his hand back.

"This situation is taking a turn I don’t like one bit. I agreed to let you stay here and play along as your boyfriend only because I thought living with someone as seemingly perfect as you would be nice... but clearly no one is perfect. And I can’t let my life get turned upside down like this over some absurd situation I got dragged into without even wanting to..."

"A-Aoshi... w-what do you mean...?" Eliss sobs. "Y-You don’t mean... you’re not saying you want to kick me out of your house... right...?"

Aoshi looks away from her — as furious as he is, he can’t stand seeing her this broken.

"Believe me, I’m seriously considering it..."

"N-No... Aoshi, please..."

Eliss collapses at his feet in tears, pressing her forehead to the floor, clinging to his arm.

"I-I’ll do anything you ask — I swear on my honor as princess of Ravessia! But please, don’t abandon me, Aoshi... w-without you, I... I..."

I’d be an asshole to kick her out — especially after everything she’s done for me. She’s worked her ass off from day one: helping with chores, covering expenses — hell, with what she earns, she’s the only reason I’m not living on instant udon every night.

But... does that really make up for having an assassin — no, a demon assassin — living in my house?

I know she did it for me, but that doesn’t change the fact that someone died because of her. Almost two people... and that’s just the part I know about. For all I know, she could have killed other people before meeting me... or even while we were together, without me knowing. She’s dangerous — too dangerous. And if I kicked her out tonight, she could wander aimlessly and kill anyone who so much as irritates her.

No... I can’t let a walking bomb like that roam free, unsupervised.

"F-Fine... you can stay," Aoshi murmurs, resigned. "But from now on, there are going to be big changes."

"O-Of course, my dear Aoshi! I-I promised I’d do anything you say!"

"Rule number one: you and I are no longer a couple."

Eliss’s renewed enthusiasm vanishes instantly. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Aoshi’s furious at me for what I did, so I don’t want to contradict him and make him even angrier. But... how the hell do I keep a promise like that? It’s not even something I can control — my body and my mouth move on their own without my permission. There’s no way I can contain my instinct to love him completely...

Eliss’s eyes fill with tears again — she wants to say so much, but forces herself to stay silent, only managing a small nod.

"Rule number two: you must never — never — hurt anyone, no matter what. Not Miori, not anyone. When you go back to Elyndra you can kill all the demons you want, but you’re not in your world here and you can’t do whatever you want. If I so much as see you lay a finger on someone, not even all the tears in the world will stop me from kicking you out. Understood?"

Once again, Eliss nods in silence.

"Third and last rule — and this ties back to the first: I need to be free to... well... see other people if I want, without worrying you’ll do something stupid because of it."

The final blow to Eliss’s shattered heart.

"I-I could understand not wanting to be a couple anymore — maybe I could have accepted that... b-but demanding this house become a revolving door of horny sluts who flirt with you and do dirty things with you while I pretend nothing’s going on... I-I could never keep a promise like that, I’m sorry..." Eliss sobs, completely falling apart, clinging even tighter to Aoshi’s arm.

"W-Wait, what do you take me for?! You really think I’m the type to bring girls home and do dirty things with them?!"

"It’s exactly what I saw you do before..."

"T-That... that was an accident, okay?! I-I didn’t mean to do anything with Miori! And I meant going out — like walking around town with a girl, getting drinks, stuff like that! Even if I did do stuff with them, I sure as hell wouldn’t do it in front of you!"

"And who is this girl you want to walk with, get drinks with, and then do stuff with?" Eliss fires back.

The situation has completely flipped — now Aoshi’s the one on trial.

"I-It was just an example — t-there’s no girl right now!"

"Oh? So you’re saying I’m the only woman in your life right now? Well then, getting rid of the competition will be easy!"

"There’s no competition because no girl on Earth would come near me with someone like you next to me..."

"Aoshi... am I wrong or did you just say I’m the most beautiful of all — so beautiful that any woman in the world would feel threatened by my looks and stay away from you?"

"T-I’ve always told you you’re beautiful — the problem isn’t your looks... it’s that small, insignificant, absolutely negligible detail called homicidal rage!"

"Oh, come on — still stuck on that? I promised I’d never lay a hand on anyone again, no matter what — even if your life’s in danger! If we get attacked by some thug again, I’ll just stand there and watch while they beat you up, and when you beg me to do something I’ll remind you that you strictly forbade me from using my strength on humans, and I’ll watch with a satisfied little smile on my face."

"You’re really evil, you know? Anyway... I-I guess I should thank you. If you hadn’t stepped in, Miori would have played me exactly like the first time — you probably spared me quite a few sleepless, tear-filled nights..." Eliss presses even closer to Aoshi, curling up at his side like a kitten.

Then she takes his hand and puts it on her head.

"Since I’ve been a good girl... don’t you think I deserve some head pats?"

"Y-Yes, you deserve some head pats... but only on the head! My body’s already worked up enough from what Miori was about to do — let’s not push my hormones over the edge!"

"Yes sir!" Eliss chirps, getting even closer — close enough to end up on his futon, slipping under the covers.

"H-Hey... I didn’t say you could get that close!" Aoshi protests, gently stroking her hair.

"Eliss...? Eliss...?"

She really fell asleep that fast?!

And yet Aoshi can’t tear his eyes away from her — so beautiful, so sweet, almost defenseless as she sleeps deeply, curled up in the futon with her face on his chest. freёwebnoѵel.com

And I just told her we can’t act like a real couple. Come on, Aoshi — it’s just one month and three weeks before she goes home. Hold it together!
