Chapter 478: Chapter 275: Make a Deal (Part 2)

The man let out a bloodcurdling scream and fell from the sky, and in the next moment, he was restrained by numerous Curse Sealers.

And with that, the dust settled over the battlefield.

Only a few scattered aberrations remained, no longer posing a threat to the Curse Sealers.

Fang Zhen stood up and put away his sniper rifle. The hardest part was over.

This instance had been quite stressful, but every problem had a solution. And he could tangibly feel that his own power had ascended to a new level.

Members of the Eternal Night Council who once seemed so threatening, bosses on the level of Count Ellick, were now foes he could take down with ease.

’It’s not that my enemies have gotten weaker, but that I’ve gotten stronger,’ Fang Zhen thought.

He summoned his Red Hare Warhorse and rode down toward the battlefield.

When Fang Zhen returned to the battlefield, he saw that the gazes of all the Curse Sealers were fixed on him.

Alexander was the first to approach.

"Fang Zhen, the Vice-Chairman of the Eternal Night Council didn’t get away, did he?" Alexander asked.

Fang Zhen gave a faint smile. "Easy work. He’s dead. Turned to ash."

Alexander was surprised to hear this, but he quickly burst into loud laughter.

The Curse Sealers on the field looked at Fang Zhen. No one had an outburst, but their eyes shone with what looked like utmost admiration, perhaps even reverence.

"Fang Zhen, you’re incredible!" A flush of excitement spread across Anglo’s face, the old man’s features beaming as he spoke. ƒrēewebnovel.com

Alexander lowered his Saber. "We couldn’t have defended Lanxi City without you, Fang Zhen. You deserve the most credit."

Fang Zhen smiled and glanced at the captured members of the Eternal Night Council. "What’s the plan for them?"

"We’re going to lock them up and interrogate them. Don’t worry, you’re one of the Whig Society’s own now. We’ll share everything we find with you," Alexander said.

Fang Zhen nodded.

With the leader of the corrupted soldiers slain, members of the Eternal Night Council captured, and the council’s Vice-Chairman, Moon, killed, the war was finally approaching its end.

There were likely still two to three thousand aberrations of various kinds scattered across Glan Island. The Eternal Night Council originally had a way to control them.

Now, however, those aberrations were out of control. This wasn’t a major issue; Curse Sealer teams would take the Blood Burst Secret Medicine and begin exterminating them, though it would be a relatively long-term undertaking.

The primary threat had been eliminated, and Fang Zhen, Alexander, and the others returned to Lanxi City.

Upon returning to the city, he received a hero’s welcome.

The people of Lanxi City had come to recognize Fang Zhen, hailing him as their savior.

If there were a faction reputation system, Fang Zhen’s would probably be Revered by now.

...

「Two days later.」

Fang Zhen didn’t return to the modern world right away, instead staying for two more days.

He had completed his few side quests during this latter period.

During these two days of rest and debriefing on the Eternal Night Council’s siege, the Whig Society held its first high-level post-war meeting.

In the morning, on the third floor of the small three-story building Fang Zhen had visited before.

This time, Fang Zhen’s status was no longer that of the guest observer he had been at the previous meeting.

He was seated next to Alexander.

Fang Zhen’s status in the Whig Society was now equivalent to that of West, their second-in-command.

Fang Zhen was attending this meeting in his capacity as the Special Honorary Vice-Chairman.

This was the title he now held within the Whig Society.

Furthermore, his new status was unanimously approved by the other members of the Whig Society.

The meeting’s agenda was simple: to tally the spoils of war and summarize the after-action report.

The war had still claimed many lives. The tallies showed that 310 soldiers from Lanxi City had died, while among the Curse Sealers, 49 were injured and 21 were killed.

The number of deaths among Curse Sealers was comparatively low, as they were highly capable of protecting themselves.

Most of the soldiers who died were killed by the Poisonous Soaring Ghosts’ volleys; surprisingly few died fighting on the walls.

The consumption of siege supplies and other material losses were also listed in the report.

After the summary, a heavy mood fell over the Whig Society members.

Alexander spoke. "Our losses were heavy, but we also dealt a devastating blow to the Eternal Night Council’s forces."

"The Eternal Night Council lost their Vice-Chairman, Moon, in this war, and we captured four of their Upper Senators."

"Furthermore, over 15,000 aberrations were killed in the siege, and the death toll for the corrupted soldiers exceeded 6,000."

"We also seized over forty warships. Judging from our captured assets and the total number of aberrations slain, it appears the Eternal Night Council mobilized every aberration from the southern half of the Kingdom for this attack."

"The corrupted soldiers we killed also represent roughly eighty percent of their total forces in the southern Kingdom."

"In other words, the aberrations’ reign of terror in the southern Kingdom is now a hollow shell. This is a golden opportunity for us to launch a major counteroffensive."

"I’ve already contacted Gwendolyn in the north via carrier pigeon. He is leading the northern Curse Sealers to the southern Kingdom as we speak."

"The original plan was for Gwendolyn’s reinforcements to relieve Glan Island, but that’s no longer necessary. He will rendezvous with the southern Curse Sealers, form an army, and launch a counterattack against the Eternal Night Council."

"Our goal is to liberate the southern Kingdom, seizing this opportunity while the Eternal Night Council is vulnerable to launch a strategic counteroffensive."
