Chapter 3: Spinning Dilemma
Chapter THREE
*DING!*
> **[Reward Received: Primordial Destiny Wheel]**
> **[Item Description: A forbidden roulette capable of drawing treasures, abilities, relics, curses, spirits, creatures, bloodlines, techniques, and many other things anyone can ever need across countless worlds and realities. Luck determines everything. The wheel may grant heaven-defying fortune and may as well grant unimaginable disaster.]**
> **[5 free spins have been received as a reward. Would you like to spin the Primordial Destiny Wheel?]**
> **[YES] [NO]**
>
Rayden stared at the system screen for an extremely long time, reading and rereading the message that was flashing over and over again.
"Wait, what kind of broken nonsense is this?" Rayden cursed with a blank face.
What is this supposed to be—a reward or a punishment? If the description of the Primordial Destiny Wheel was put into perspective, then it could grant him an overpowered blessing, but it might very well grant him an absurdly ominous curse that could bring his end.
So was it worth it? Hell no. This is a damn gamble. Well, a roulette was supposed to be a gamble, but the thing at risk here was more than just losing money. He might be losing his life.
Rayden didn’t dismiss the message immediately as he should have done if his thoughts were considered. Instead, he pondered on everything. The wheel of destiny was supposed to be a reward, right? So normally the danger level shouldn’t be too high. Or else how can it be called a reward? So it should be relatively safe to spin... right?
Well, maybe that would be the norm, but if there was one thing he had learned in his short time of having this system, it was that his system isn’t normal by any means. So who was to say the danger might actually be worse than what Rayden was thinking?
Rayden decided to have a quick debate on whether he should spin the roulette or whether he should not. He sat on the ground, his face serious.
"Argument against spinning," he spoke in a deeper voice to be more convincing, or maybe confusing. "That wheel is obviously evil. It literally warns you beforehand. Only an idiot ignores warnings given by something that is clearly ancient and has seen a lot."
Then he switched sides. "But what if the rewards were amazing?"
Then he switched sides again. "What if you die instantly?"
Counter-counter argument: "Skill issue." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Rayden blinked. Well, that was a strong argument. He nodded to himself and immediately shook his head again. No, stay focused.
He stood up and started to pace around. "What if it blesses me with a horrible curse?"
His wild imagination immediately ran wild. "What if my leg starts to speak an ancient demonic language that corrupts souls?" He froze. Actually, that would be amazing, but terrifying nonetheless. Amazingly terrifying.
Just then, another horrifying thought struck him. "What if it summons some eldritch creature that eats my soul?"
He slowly turned his attention to the large silver wheel that was floating overhead a few meters away. The wheel was rotating peacefully. Suspiciously peacefully.
Rayden squinted. "You definitely look capable of soul crimes."
Then another thought struck him. The monarchs granted him the system, meaning they were the ones who gave this to him as well. Silence. Rayden went silent for a while before his expression became even more stiffened.
Those two are absolutely the type to give someone a cursed roulette for entertainment. The realization hit him like lightning. The Monarch of Darkness, especially, had looked way too amused earlier.
Rayden covered his face. "I think I’m finished."
The wheel of destiny shimmered gently as if tired of waiting. Rayden looked back at his system screen that said five spins left. *Are you willing to spin?*
"What if one of them gives me something insane? Something broken?"
He imagined several broken treasures, artifacts, and many other things like a cosmic suit or a divine crown. Then his imagination betrayed him again.
"...Or he could be faced with explosive diarrhea."
Rayden’s face twitched. "Why is that even a possibility in my head?"
Rayden took deep breaths. "Okay, okay, okay. We will spin once."
He raised his finger as he started to move it toward the "YES" on his system screen. "We spin once. Only once," Rayden convinced himself. Who knows, he might really get lucky for once.
Then he pressed spin.
The wheel of primordial destiny started to spin. Slowly at first, and then it started to get faster and faster. The more the thing spun, the more Rayden’s heart raced.
"Please no disaster, broken ability, or invincible ability. No weird curse, talent, or such."
Rayden prayed to the gods he knew as the spinning wheel started to lower in momentum little by little, until it finally stopped on one of the many words it had on it.
It stopped on: **ITEM**.
*DING!*
> **[A sacred grade item has been received. Holy Elixir has been received.]**
> **[Holy Elixir: An elixir made of different top-tier sacred grade healing herbs and the blood of a Phoenix.]**
>
Rayden skipped the items listed and continued to read.
> **[...Could restore any broken part of a human body to full health. Has the power to bring back the dead below the Sage stage. Could restore and refine any living thing’s essence, elevating them from the position of rot or decay to a vibrant life stage. Note: Can only be used three times, since only three drops are here.]**
>
Rayden was stunned. Maybe he shouldn’t be, surely the roulette would be amazing, but this was perhaps too amazing. This elixir could bring back the dead. This simply broke the rules of the norm, and he could use it three times before it was exhausted. That was perhaps super great.
Rayden’s mind started to calculate how he could use this to give himself far more opportunities. He was still in the middle of pondering what to do when a new notification appeared on his face.
> **[A broken spirit root has been found in the host. Would you like to use a drop of the Holy Elixir to revive and restore your spirit root back to vibrant?]**
>
Rayden blinked. Well, that was that. Sincerely, he hadn’t paid much attention to his new body, but he was reasonable enough to judge that they were essential to him based on the previous system message he received.
He didn’t hesitate to press "YES" on the new message.
Immediately, a strange sensation spread through Rayden’s body, starting from deep within his soul. It was as if something that had been dead within him for a very, very long time had suddenly been revived and was now as vibrant as ever.
Not only that, but a surge of vitality spread through Rayden’s body, making him feel fresh and rejuvenated. He seemed to grow stronger and his senses seemed to be sharper. In simple words, he felt as if he was reborn.
Rayden smiled slightly. Actually, that is better than he thought. The feeling was invigorating and pleasant. He would have sacrificed another drop of Holy Elixir to feel it again if he wasn’t himself. Never though, since he was himself.
A new message appeared on his screen.
*DING!*
> **[Spirit root has been restored from damaged state to Divine state.]**
>
That wasn’t all of it, though. Another message appeared.
*DING!*
> **[Your soul, body, and spirit have been cleansed by the Holy Elixir. Your cultivation speed has been increased... Your cultivation speed has been increased... Your cultivation speed has been increased... Your cultivation speed has increased... Your cultivation speed has increased!]**
>
Rayden smiled seeing this. Without anyone telling him, he could tell that he had hit the jackpot on his very first spin. This is really not that bad, he thought with a smile, feeling his rejuvenated body and increased strength.
> **[Would you like to continue spinning? YES/NO]**
>
Rayden didn’t hesitate as he pressed "YES." He had totally forgotten his weariness about getting anything that could bring about his end.
Yes, he pressed, and the wheel of primordial destiny started to spin again, more and more violent, faster and faster. Then it slowed and started to spin slower and slower until it stopped at a **TITLE**.
*DING!*
> **[New title has been received. Title: Devouring Debt.]**
> **[A forbidden title born from karmic imbalance. Those who bear this title are marked by the laws of heaven as entities that consume far beyond their allotted fate.]**
> **[Effect: The host’s cultivation speed is increased tremendously.]**
> **[Cursed effect: Devourer. Spiritual energy consumption is multiplied multiple times over. Failure to continuously absorb energy would result in cultivation regression.]**
> **[Warning: The curse can’t be removed.]**
>
Rayden’s excitement vanished, and he had a betrayed and confused expression on his face. Wait, what? He was cursed now?
He should have known that is how gambling was. You win twofold and then lose fourfold. He has practically gotten cursed—something he was trying not to get. Getting the Holy Elixir and seeing it at work actually made him act too silly, spinning without thinking. Now he was paying for it.
"Damn it," Rayden cursed as he looked at his status bar. In the place where Title had "None" before, the **Devouring Debt** title was now auto-equipped.
And the worst thing about this title was the fact that no matter what Rayden might be doing—whether just sitting or eating—the title would be draining his energy. This is too troublesome.
Rayden felt as if he was having a headache as he sat down. After a while of contemplation, he came to a conclusion. Actually, the title isn’t all that bad. No, it’s actually bad, especially since the curse effect of the title can’t be unequipped or removed, meaning he was going to be living with a literal parasite disguised as a title sticking unto his being. Not cool. Not cool at all.
Rayden groaned but got over it and looked at the positive side of the curse title. His cultivation speed was multiplied once more. This, coupled with how much his cultivation talent has been boosted due to the effect of the Holy Elixir—when he finally started to cultivate, his cultivation speed was sure to be fast.
He grinned. He had always daydreamed about cultivating and becoming immortal. Now that dream will come true, and very fast as well.
Rayden’s mouth curled slightly. Who cares much about the Devourer curse effect of the title? As long as he started to cultivate, he should be able to feed the title enough energy, especially if he got his clone. Which he still had no idea how to get; after all, based on the system, he would need to level up before he could get a clone, and he had no idea what to do to level up.
Not like that is Rayden’s priority as of now. Instead, his attention shifted back to the system screen.
> **[Would you like to continue spinning? Spins left: 3]**
>
Rayden made a pause. His hand itched to press "YES," but he didn’t want what happened to him the last time to happen again. Sincerely, seeing one curse title was already a great headache; if he was to see another one, then he wouldn’t know what to think anymore.
Rayden looked at the primordial destiny wheel intensely before he shook his head. No, I can’t be unfortunate twice in a row, right? Since the first one is good and the second one is bad, the third one surely must be good.
Rayden spoke convincingly to himself, trying to convince himself. He raised his hand to press "YES," then withdrew his hand back, and then pulled his hand forward, then withdrew it back.
Rayden sighed. Sincerely, this is too much of a drop-off.
"Fuck it! Whether I get more cursed items or a blessing, I don’t give a fuck. Let’s get this spinning done and done with."
With that determination, he pressed "YES" and the roulette started to spin again. It spun fast, and then spun faster, and then faster, and then it spun rapidly. The wind blew all around. Although the wheel didn’t have a material form on the physical plane, it was able to affect the physical world.
Although Rayden’s mind wasn’t on any of those. Instead, his mind was on the spinning wheel itself. He prayed silently to all the gods he knew, which were none, that the arrow would stop at something broken and impressive without bearing any curse with them.
As the wheel started to slow, Rayden could feel his heartbeat slightly faster and faster. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes to face the consequences of whatever he had pulled this time.
The arrow stopped directly at another word on the roulette. It read: **SPECIAL ITEM**.
Rayden blinked. The Holy Elixir he had gotten earlier was just named as an "Item," but this carried the word "Special." Within seconds, he knew for sure he had hit another jackpot, and the system confirmed it for him the next moment.
*DING!*
> **[Congratulations! You have received a cosmic tier item: Treasure Pet Pull Card.]**
> **[Item Description: A small flexible card that when torn would give the host the unimaginable and inconceivable opportunity to actually acquire a top-tier being as a companion.]**
> **[Remark: What is a true warrior without a blade? What is a great cultivator without an ally? What is a sovereign ruler without a companion carrying his will across heaven and earth? What is the effect of a future overlord without the perfect partner helping him walk the path of ascension? Choose the perfect pet for yourself and you might as well become more broken than the concept of being broken. Who knows, you might just become OP.]**
>
Rayden’s lips curled upward reading the system remarks. It seems the system is both pleased, intrigued, and a bit jealous. "Piss off, you annoying brat."
Another screen appeared on Rayden’s screen.
> **[Would you like to use the pet card? YES/NO]**
>
