Chapter 13: Why Are You Running (2)
Chapter Twelve
Oh?" Li Yu said calmly, as if discussing the weather. "A new enemy. System, scan this new friend of ours."
[Scanning... Scanning complete.]
[Name: Spiked Gorilla]
[Level: Level Two, Stage Five]
Li Yu raised an eyebrow slightly after seeing the result. "Well now," he muttered. "That’s a decent surprise."
Until now, he had already fought several Level Two beasts. Most were early-stage Qi Gathering beasts, and if he had to summarize those battles in one word, it would simply be disappointing. They were far weaker than he expected. He honestly struggled to believe they belonged to a higher realm when most of them could barely survive ten strikes from him.
But this one was different. A mid-stage Qi Gathering beast. And not just any beast, but a spiked gorilla. Which meant one thing. This thing was going to be absurdly strong.
Suddenly, Li Yu’s grin widened excitedly. "Yes." His eyes gleamed brightly. "Yeah... yeah, yeah, yeah! Finally. This is what I need. A worthy opponent."
The two-spiked gorilla only spared the survivors a single glance before looking around at the countless corpses scattered throughout the clearing. The more it looked, the more furious it became. And then its gaze landed on the smiling human standing amidst the slaughter.
RROOOOOOOOAR!
The beast exploded forward in rage. "Come on!" Li Yu shouted excitedly. "Show me what a Level Two beast can really do!" frёewebnoѵēl.com
The two clashed head-on. BOOOOOOOOM! The sound of battle exploded throughout the forest. The two surviving gorillas immediately leapt to their feet, roaring wildly in celebration for their superior.
To them, one-spiked gorillas and two-spiked gorillas existed on entirely different levels. The difference between them was like heaven and earth. Their superior would definitely crush this arrogant human.
The two gorillas rapidly communicated through facial expressions and hand signs.
"That arrogant brat is doomed!" "Exactly! He actually dared challenge a senior!" "He’s insane!" "And arrogant!" "And that arrogance will cost him his life!" "Look! He’s already sweating!" "He’s finished!"
Meanwhile, the one actually sweating was not Li Yu. It was the beast. At some point during the battle, the two-spiked gorilla had stopped fighting to kill the arrogant human before it. Right now, it was fighting for something far simpler: survival.
Its enormous body was drenched in sweat as it exchanged rapid blows with Li Yu, droplets flying through the air with every violent movement. Each collision between fist and flesh released explosive shockwaves powerful enough to shake the surrounding trees.
The gorilla swung a devastating punch toward Li Yu’s head. Li Yu calmly tilted his neck to the side, narrowly avoiding the strike before retaliating instantly. His fist shot forward like lightning.
BAAAANG!
The punch connected directly with the beast’s lower jaw. A sickening crack echoed through the clearing as the gorilla’s jaw shattered violently from the impact. The longer the battle continued, the wider the gorilla’s eyes became.
At the start of the fight, the beast had looked at Liyu with mocking disdain, as though the human was nothing more than an arrogant insect. Then that disdain became shock. And from shock, it slowly descended into despair. This human was far too monstrous.
The gorilla no longer wanted to fight. Every instinct inside its body screamed at it to run. Yet it knew something terrifying with absolute certainty: the moment it turned its back, it was over. The human would kill it without mercy.
So the gorilla continued fighting desperately, unleashing fierce attacks again and again. Yet despite all its efforts, Li Yu was not merely keeping up with it. He was winning.
BOOOOOOM!
Another heavy punch slammed into the gorilla’s side. Its ribs caved inward instantly as blood burst from the beast’s mouth. Before the gorilla could even recover, it suddenly saw Li Yu’s grinning face appear directly before it. The smile on that face was calm. Too calm. And somehow, that made it even more terrifying.
BANG! Li Yu’s next punch shattered the gorilla’s nose.
BANG! Another crushed its upper jaw.
The massive two-spiked gorilla was blasted backward, crashing violently into a giant tree hard enough to make the entire trunk tremble down to its roots.
The two surviving one-spiked gorillas, who had been roaring and cheering moments ago, suddenly fell silent. Their expressions froze. Their superior, the mighty two-spiked gorilla they worshipped, now looked like a broken shell of its former self. Its body was covered in swollen bruises and horrifying deformities.
At first glance, it almost looked as though the giant beast had been repeatedly stung by countless venomous insects.
But the two gorillas knew better. Those swollen areas were not ordinary injuries. Its bones were literally being shattered apart during the clash against the human. And that was only the less damaged parts.
The rest of the gorilla’s body looked utterly miserable. It resembled a criminal tortured for years without rest. No, it looked like something that had challenged a leviathan to countless battles and lost every single one of them.
And the one who had reduced such a mighty creature into this pitiful state, the two surviving gorillas slowly turned their heads to the side at terrifying speed. There he was. The human. Li Yu stood calmly a short distance away, completely relaxed.
And the worst part? He looked almost perfectly fine. Maybe his long black hair looked slightly messy now, and there was a tiny scratch on his cheek so small it barely even counted as an injury. That was all.
The two gorilla beasts, who moments ago had been certain their superior would crush the human, suddenly felt icy chills crawl up their spines. This thing was no longer human. The two-spiked gorilla slowly regained its vision, though everything still looked blurry.
Instead of one Li Yu, it was currently seeing ten of him. That last punch had clearly damaged its eyesight badly. Li Yu casually cracked his neck before rolling his knuckles, then gave the battered beast a proud smile.
"You’re strong," he admitted sincerely. "Really strong." He grinned wider. "In fact, I’m tempted to see how I’d fare if I actually go all out."
The two-spiked gorilla’s eyes widened in pure shock and despair. No. Impossible. It had to have heard wrong. Yes, that punch must have damaged its hearing too. There was simply no explanation that made sense.
But reality quickly destroyed that desperate hope. Li Yu slowly bent forward. His already long hair thickened further, swaying wildly around him. His teeth sharpened into gleaming white fangs while his fingers elongated into razor-sharp claws.
A savage glow entered his face, and suddenly the entire atmosphere around him became heavier, more primal, and more dangerous.
He slowly looked up and grinned. The two-spiked gorilla nearly burst into tears on the spot.
"Time for the second round."
The gorilla’s heart almost exploded from panic. Why? Why had it been foolish enough to come here? Well, it knew why. It had heard rumors about a tyrant disturbing this region of the Beast Forest.
A violent human who hunted beasts like prey. So it came to put an end to that tyrant. But now it understood the horrifying truth: this wasn’t merely a tyrant. This was an abnormal monster wearing human skin.
The gorilla barely even had time to regret its decisions before Li Yu appeared before it once again.
BOOM!
This time, Li Yu’s attacks became far more savage and offensive. His movements carried a feral brutality as claw and fist tore toward the gorilla relentlessly. Nearby, the two surviving one-spiked gorillas stared blankly at the battle before slowly turning toward each other again.
"Do you think senior is cooked?" "Well... it definitely looks like he’s cooked." "But maybe there’s still hope?" "Yeah... two-spiked gorillas can’t be underestimated... right?"
If the two-spiked gorilla had heard their conversation, it probably would have hunted the pair down itself. Unfortunately, it currently had bigger problems. Like surviving. The second round had barely begun before the difference became horrifyingly obvious. The two-spiked gorilla was being completely dominated.
ROOOAAARRR!
Pain-filled screams echoed throughout the forest as Li Yu tore into the beast mercilessly. His claws ripped through fur and flesh alike, carving bloody wounds all over the gorilla’s massive body.
Dark blood sprayed everywhere. And through it all, Li Yu still wore that same gentle smile. As though he were kindly doing the beast a favor instead of brutally dismantling it alive.
The two one-spiked gorillas looked at each other once more. This time, both reached the exact same conclusion: their superior was doomed. And if they stayed any longer, they would be doomed too. Without hesitation, the two beasts turned and fled at full speed.
If the two-spiked gorilla noticed it had been abandoned, it gave no reaction. It was currently in far too much agony to care.
Meanwhile, Li Yu’s expression slowly returned to indifference as the battle continued. "I should probably end this," he muttered calmly.
Far away, the two fleeing gorillas sprinted through the forest at their absolute top speed. Massive branches groaned and snapped beneath their weight as they rushed desperately through the trees. Neither beast communicated anymore. There was no time. Their lives depended on escape. Still, both held the exact same thought. They needed to leave this region entirely. No, that still wasn’t safe enough. They needed to leave the whole Beast Forest. They just wanted to get as far away from that monster as possible.
And just as a tiny sliver of hope began appearing inside their hearts, a calm male voice suddenly echoed beside them. "Wait... why are you guys running?"
The two beasts froze instantly. Terror exploded through their entire bodies like wildfire. They instinctively turned around, ready to fight desperately for their lives.
Even if they died, they at least wanted to land one punch on that human monster before the end. Then the voice spoke again.
"Also, I already wished you two ’rip.’ You don’t want to make me a liar now, do you?"
Before either gorilla could react, Li Yu moved first. His hands shot out instantly, grabbing both beasts by the head. Then,
BOOOOOOOOM!
Using his full bestial strength, Li Yu smashed their skulls into each other. Their heads exploded apart in a shower of blood, shattered bone, and gore.
The two headless bodies collapsed lifelessly to the ground the next second. Li Yu watched calmly as the corpses dropped. Then a small satisfied smile appeared on his face.
"Gosh, that was refreshing for once."
And as if specifically to ruin his mood, the system screen suddenly flashed brightly before him. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
