Chapter 224: Ch 224: Unwelcomed Guests - Part 2
"Oh my! Those are some strong reactions. I wonder if they are because you are truly that fragile or because they want to keep you away from me. Which one do you think it is?"
"Idiot! Do you even have to ask? It’s solely because you are here."
Mira did not even hesitate to put Kyle in his place. They did not seem particularly gentle with each other despite being from the same group.
Rin looked at his concerned party before sighing and deciding to take a seat. They could protest, but he needed to be here to start the negotiations with this group.
"I am fine. I am not fragile enough to collapse right now. Besides, I have an important matter to deal with at the moment."
Rin looked at his guests, who smiled in return before Kyle spoke first.
"Well, since all the important parties are here, let me tell you why I decided to approach you in the first place. It’s because I need your help to put this apocalypse to rest."
Everyone tensed at the request.
What Kyle was suggesting was something everyone wanted. But it seemed like an impossible task to achieve.
"Is it even possible to end this apocalypse? This is not a simple matter we can just wave away and dismiss. This is a world-class disaster—!"
"I know that much already. But that is not something we should fear. Anyway, since this apocalypse is not natural, it should go away as long as we take care of the thing responsible for it... Huh? Why are you all giving me that blank look? Did you all not know? I thought Rin would have told you about it by now."
Kyle was pinning all the blame on Rin with a smile on his face.
Rin could tell that this was Kyle’s tactic to drive a wedge between him and his party. He wanted to show Rin that he was the only one who understood him so that Rin would come over to his side.
Everyone turned to look at Rin at that confession, but Rin did not even defend himself. He waited to see what the people in his party would do first.
Shelly was the first to move (obviously), and she scoffed at Kyle’s words.
"I don’t care whether Rin told us the truth about the apocalypse or not. It’s not like we can immediately take down this creature even if we know why things are happening the way they are. I would rather trust Rin than worry about unnecessary things."
Shelly’s words made the others relax immediately, and they realized she was right.
"I trust Rin as well. He often hides things from us, but they are for our own benefit. If he did not tell us about the apocalypse, then it is likely that he wanted to protect us."
Reina continued without a hint of hesitation.
Suddenly, Kyle had become the bad guy who was trying to break their bond, and it made him chuckle to sense such blatant hostility.
"Hmm, it seems like I opened my mouth too much and made some enemies. I do apologize if my words hurt you in some way. That was not my intention at all."
Kyle informed Shelly and the others, but his impression was already poor. No one believed his words, which made him shrug.
"Tsk, don’t open your mouth unnecessarily if all you are going to do is make enemies."
Mira complained, but she seemed used to Kyle’s actions.
Rin allowed things to settle down first before coughing into his fist and looking at the pair.
"So, what are you thinking of doing from here? Are you planning an assault on the creature responsible for the apocalypse? Can you even reach that thing?"
Rin questioned the pair in front of him, and they immediately nodded.
"We do have an idea of where the creature behind all this is being kept. And theoretically, we can break into the facility on our own. But taking that creature down is a different matter. That is where we will need your help."
The pair were looking at Rin with keen eyes. The fact that they did not tell him their plan meant that they were waiting for him to get curious.
The second Rin got curious and asked what they were going to do, he would likely lose this match and become their pawn.
So he curbed his curiosity and decided to play their waiting game.
Sigh
"It seems our usual tactic is not going to work. I tried looking into your future, but I cannot see one in which you will get curious and ask us what our plan is."
Mira spoke up without hesitation a few seconds later.
Rin had a feeling she had used her abilities, but he had not felt her move or activate them.
The others realized that Mira had used her abilities as well, and Teressa immediately bound her to stop her from taking action.
Rin could tell that Teressa’s bindings were useless against Mira. However, Mira looked content to pretend she was caught. She was trying to make their side lower their guard. freewebnovёl.ƈom
"These bindings are annoying. Would you mind taking them off me?"
Mira asked, but Teressa did not respond with words. Instead, she tightened the bindings around Mira, causing her to let out a sigh and settle down.
At this point, it was easy to see that Kyle’s side was holding back for the sake of negotiations.
"Let’s say I agree to cooperate with you on this issue. But isn’t that creature far too integrated with this planet right now? Removing it is not realistic. So our only option would be to put it to sleep. But do you think you have enough power to do that?"
Rin asked, wanting to know Kyle’s plan. Did he truly have that much power and authority over the creature?
Somehow, it was hard for Rin to picture the system taking orders from Kyle.
"Hmm, I don’t have enough power to command the creature myself. But that is where you come in. Rin, you are our trump card in this situation and the one we want to command that creature. What do you say? Would you help us out?"
Kyle asked while holding his hand out.
It was immediately smacked away by Shelly.
