Chapter 210: Ch 210: The Calamity is too Strong
"Rin...make a decision please."
Albus asked again, but this time, he reached out to touch Rin’s shoulder as well. His touch helped ground Rin and he let out a frustrated sigh.
He looked at Serena, or what used to be Serena, and felt his heart hurting. But he had to make a decision now.
Shelly grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly to make him feel better. Rin looked at her with a questioning look in his eyes, but she did not look at him. Instead, she kept looking at Serena with a predatory look in her eyes.
"It seems like we have no choice but to put that monster down. Don’t look so down, Rin. I promise I will make her death as painless as possible."
Shelly promised and Rin felt happy and sad at the same time.
His companions were a source of strength for him, and currently, they were the ones who were a source of common sense for him as well.
[Note: This calamity does not have a shred of humanity left. Even if you want to help Serena, the individual’s consciousness no longer exists.]
[Conclusion: you should not feel sorry for this thing and kill it. Its core will help you fulfill your next KPI.]
The system reminded Rin about this. Everything was telling him that the right thing to do would be to kill Serena.
So he took a deep breath and steeled his heart. He was going to make the decision that everyone wanted him to make.
"Alright, we are taking down this calamity at all costs. Everyone, get ready to engage in battle." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Rin’s mouth felt dry as he spoke these words, but the others around him got excited at the thought of finally being able to fight.
Albus and Shelly took the lead like always, and the calamity noticed them.
But it had enough brainpower not to go after the attackers. Instead, it came after the place where Leon and Teressa were.
"I will try and hold that monster back. You make sure to run away in time."
Teressa pushed at Rin to run before she used her powers. She knew that she would be stuck in one place once she did that.
But Rin had no intention of losing another comrade to the same calamity anytime soon. So he grabbed Teressa as soon as she started using her powers and took her out of the attack zone.
He made it out just in time before the calamity raised its hand and split the space apart to take out a spear before throwing it toward them.
"It looks like your powers are not able to restrain the calamity. It would be better if you used your powers on a small portion of its body...like its hands when it attacks."
Rin advised Teressa as he kept running away from danger.
"Darn it! I should be able to take this calamity and hold it down. Why is my power so weak? I train enough, but even still..."
Teressa complained that it was unfair, but her abilities were usually good at restraining multiple smaller enemies. She was far from useless, but her match-up was not good this time.
"Don’t let it get to you. The calamity is far too much for anyone to handle alone. You are already helping plenty by stalling that thing."
Rin told Teressa as he left her in a safe place before he decided to distract the calamity himself.
The calamity looked at Rin with a blank expression and he was almost afraid that he would get ignored and the calamity would still go after Teressa.
But the calamity changed its mind at the last second and decided to follow Rin instead.
"Rin...! Hey! How dare you go after Rin."
Shelly’s anger exploded and so did her powers. Her sword got faster as she attacked the calamity. But for the first time, Shelly had a bad match-up in front of her.
Not only was the calamity not getting injured by Shelly’s attacks, but it was even able to counterattack. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
It knocked Shelly down with one strike. Shelly tried to counter, but she was not able to stop the monster’s claw from hitting her in time.
"Shelly...Darn it! How dare you..."
Albus noticed instantly that Shelly had been knocked down and he moved to help her. But the monster blocked his way, causing him to curse at it before fighting it instead of helping Shelly.
He was trying to distract the calamity and it worked somewhat.
But the calamity was not a mindless monster that could not tell what was happening. It had some intelligence because it decided to attack Shelly the moment it saw her getting up and ignored Albus.
It was such a sudden action that even Albus was left speechless, wondering if the calamity was deliberately going after Shelly to keep her down.
"Do you think I am going to let you have your way? Don’t even think about hurting Shelly again."
Albus yelled and his sword shone golden before he rained down aura upon the monster. He was sure that it would hurt the monster and slow it down.
But the monster pierced through his aura and swatted him away without much effort. It was far too difficult to fight this thing.
Rin had known that there would be moments when his side would struggle and suffer due to monsters, but this was the first time he was experiencing a loss like this.
’Should I ask everyone else to help with the calamity as well? I have a feeling that even the whole settlement won’t be able to take this thing down.’
Shelly was ranked #2 on the global leaderboard, and she was currently being played with by the calamity like she was a ball it was getting bored of.
As much as Rin hated to admit it, this calamity was out of their league.
"What do we do now? We cannot take it down. But if we don’t do anything soon, then it will end up killing Shelly and Albus. W-We need to distract the calamity and-"
Teressa was hyperventilating. She was in a bad physical and mental condition. It was clear that something was weighing heavily on her mind about this whole situation.
Rin wanted to ask her, but now was not the right time. He needed to deal with the calamity first.
’We have no other choice. We will have to call for reinforcements.’
