Chapter 207: Ch 207: Last bottle of Medicine
[Warning: Your corruption levels are above 92%. Body modification will start any second now.]
The system warned Serena, and she felt a searing pain in her arm. She looked down, only to see it starting to be covered in scales.
It was a slow process, and Serena initially only had a few scales. It was easy for her to hide these with long-sleeved clothes.
What was unbearable were the voices in her head, especially her mother’s voice, which was getting louder and louder.
’My poor child! Look at what this world has done to you. Don’t worry! Mommy will take care of this for you.’
’Once you mutate fully, I will make sure no one ever humiliates your server again.’
Her mother promised, but Serena had enough sense left to know that it was not a good thing.
"No! I don’t want to do anything like that. I chose this for myself because I wanted to protect everyone. There is no need to get others involved in my mess."
Serena yelled in her empty room, but her mother was not willing to listen.
’These people and their ideals of friendship and comradeship have started corrupting you, my dear daughter. That’s why you cannot see what is in front of you. But don’t worry. Everything will be fine once you evolve-’
Her mother’s words were cut off by a knocking sound at her door.
Serena was thankful for the disturbance, and she immediately headed toward the door to open it.
Shelly was standing on the other side with the bottle of potion in her hands. Serena let out a sigh of relief, and she did not even have the energy to mask her expression.
"Here is the bottle of potion that you wanted. But your complexion does not look that good. Are you going to die soon?"
Shelly asked with a smile on her face.
Serena would have usually taken offense to such a comment, but she could not bring herself to care at the moment.
"Has anyone told you that you have a bad personality?"
Serena asked Shelly while reaching to grab the potion out of her hand immediately. She did not want to risk Shelly taking it back.
But Shelly did not look annoyed by her comment. If anything, it made her smile widen and she let out a giggle.
"Well, thank you for the compliment. I do try to be insufferable to anyone who is not Rin. That way, they won’t want to associate with me...or Rin."
Shelly did not hide her true intentions. It was different from the child Serena had seen before. But somehow, it felt natural for Shelly to be like this.
"I feel sorry for Rin. He’s stuck with a psycho like you. I wonder if he would ever be able to live a normal life."
Serena shook her head to show that she was concerned about Rin, but Shelly only let out another laugh at her concern.
"As adorable as your concern is, I do think you have other problems to worry about—like staying conscious long enough to get out of here."
"Excuse me?"
Serena questioned Shelly’s words, but she already knew what the pink-haired girl was talking about. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"Hmm, aren’t you about to explode? Then you should do it as far away as possible from here so that it does not inconvenience anyone else. Especially Rin! So make sure you take this potion and leave."
Shelly told her before she turned around and walked away. She gave Serena no time to counter any of her words.
"Tsk, you really have the worst personality."
Serena grumbled as she watched Shelly run away before letting out a sigh and looking at the potion in her hand.
It was time for her to take it and do as Shelly asked.
"In the end, I did not even get time to say goodbye. I hope I don’t make much of a mess."
Serena let out a sigh as she emptied the whole potion bottle after deciding to leave. Once she had her thoughts and emotions under control, she left the Kalos settlement.
The corruption would hit her at any moment, and then she would cease to be Serena. But until then, she wanted to see the world and enjoy its beauty one last time.
__________
Something about the situation was bothering Rin. There was no way Teressa’s corruption had cleared on its own.
So the only conclusion was that Serena had taken action.
But if she had, then her own condition must be terrible. And that made Rin worried about her.
’I need to find Serena at all costs. No, before that, I should find Teressa and confirm that my theory is correct.’
Finding Teressa was easy. All he had to do was follow his instincts, and he was able to sense where she was.
She looked far better compared to before, and her face also had much more color. She looked cured of the corruption, and Rin had mixed feelings about it.
"-make sure you put it away...Rin? What are you doing here? Can I help you with anything?"
Teressa asked as soon as she noticed him. She stopped working and walked toward him.
Rin had no idea how he should start the conversation, but Teressa took one look at his face and sighed. She understood what he was here for and signaled for her party to stop for now.
"It looks like our leader has something important to talk to me about. I will be back soon. Can you all continue without me?"
She asked, and everyone else nodded to show that they understood.
Rin pretended he had not seen any of it, and he waited for Teressa to lead him to a quiet place.
Teressa did as he had hoped she would, and he waited for her to start speaking first.
"Are you here because I was cured of corruption? It was-"
"Serena, right? She took over the corruption you were suffering from. That means she must be close to losing control of herself. We should find her quickly."
Rin told Teressa, and the succubus looked a little reluctant.
She was not ungrateful, but she did believe that every action had a consequence.
In this case, Serena had taken on the burden of the corruption knowing fully what it would do to her. But since it was her choice, did anyone have the right to stop her?
She did not voice any of this and decided to follow Rin’s advice. After all, she did not want to lower the impression Rin had of her.
