Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Target of Jealousy

Annabelle Young came across as incredibly enthusiastic, and she was gorgeous besides. Cecelia Archer couldn’t think of any reason she would want to screw her over, so she was quick to trust her.

"Really, Miss Young? Thank you so much. It’s just that I have absolutely no experience in the jewelry business..."

"Experience is something you build up over time. No one’s a born expert. You’re so beautiful and smart, you’ll get the hang of it in no time. I believe in you. Why don’t you head over tomorrow morning? I’ll be waiting for you at the entrance to the Walden Trade Center. I’ll take you in myself."

Her work situation finally settled, Cecelia Archer called Doris Morton. Early the next morning, Doris arrived at the hospital.

Cecelia Archer put on some makeup, changed into an old business suit, and hurried to the entrance of the Walden Trade Center.

Sure enough, Annabelle Young was waiting for her.

After they met and exchanged a few pleasantries, Annabelle Young led her to a counter in the jewelry section. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Mr. King, could you come over here? Everyone, gather around. I’d like to introduce you to a new colleague."

"This is my friend, Cecelia Archer. She starts working with us today. Please, everyone, take good care of her."

Everyone knew Annabelle Young was the boss’s daughter, but she rarely came by. On the off chance she did pass through, she was usually aloof and wouldn’t even respond to their hellos. They never expected her to show up first thing in the morning.

The staff quickly complied. Annabelle Young had Cecelia Archer step behind the counter and followed her in, pointing out the jewelry and giving her a brief overview before adding thoughtfully...

"Your outfit doesn’t quite fit in here. Mr. King, take her to get changed into a uniform."

Not daring to slack, Mr. King led Cecelia Archer to the staff room.

When Cecelia Archer emerged in her new uniform, her figure, her bearing, and her beautiful face instantly made her the store’s main attraction. While everyone was visibly impressed, it also left a bitter taste in their mouths. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

There’s always drama where there are a lot of women. Who wouldn’t want to be the prettiest, youngest one with the best figure in the room?

Before, they had all been more or less on the same level. Now that Cecelia Archer was here, they felt like they’d been demoted to her background decorations.

On top of that, she had been brought in personally by the boss’s daughter. It would be humiliating if she couldn’t meet the monthly sales quota, and they suspected the manager might even start feeding her regular customers to help her out...

The veteran saleswomen started giving her complicated looks.

Just as they were secretly whispering about her, Annabelle Young did indeed walk over with a wealthy woman in tow.

"Aunt Miller, you look younger every time I see you! I remember you looking just like this when I was a little girl. I’m all grown up now, so how is it you still look the same?"

"They say a loving husband is like a good gardener. I can tell your husband absolutely spoils you. It’s enough to make anyone jealous."

Aunt Miller’s face blossomed into a smile. "Oh, you little sweet-talker. Your mother told me you went abroad to study. I haven’t seen you in years! I can’t believe how grown-up you are, and your words are as sweet as honey. It’s me who should be envious of you. No matter how much I do for upkeep, I can never compare to you young ladies."

"Don’t say that! You’re a classic beauty. We’re the ones who can’t possibly compare to you."

Annabelle Young continued to lay the praise on thick. "Not long ago, my mom mentioned that you and your husband’s 30th wedding anniversary is coming up. I had a designer create a ring specially designed around your unique aura and style, in the hopes that whoever buys it will have a life as happy as yours. Would you like to see it?"

Aunt Miller looked astonished. "Is that so? You had a designer create a ring based on my style and aura? Why didn’t I hear anything about it?"

Annabelle Young grabbed her arm, affecting a cute, pleading tone. "I took the liberty of using your story for inspiration, and I’ve been meaning to tell you, but I’ve just been so busy lately, I haven’t had a spare moment. That’s why I flagged you down as soon as I saw you. You’re not mad at me, are you, Aunt Miller?"

’Not mad? Of course I’m not mad. In fact, since it was designed based on my style and aura, I simply have to see it.’

Annabelle Young pointed to a particularly large and brilliant diamond ring in the display case and had Cecelia Archer retrieve it, continuing her barrage of nonsense.

"Look at this diamond—it’s as elegant and magnificent as you are, dazzling all who see it. And these four prongs, one represents your husband, two are for your two sons, and the last one is for your daughter, Rong’er. The four of them surround you, like stars revolving around the moon, protecting your lifelong happiness. Doesn’t it just perfectly capture your image and essence?"

In truth, all diamond ring designs were more or less the same. The only real differences were the size of the diamond and minute variations in style.

The ring itself was nothing particularly special, yet she had managed to spin such a fantastic story about it.

Of course, Mrs. Miller couldn’t very well say it *didn’t* match her essence. She just smiled, picked up the ring, and slipped it on her finger.

"Annabelle, you silver-tongued girl, you’re so clever. Whichever family gets you as a daughter-in-law will have hit the jackpot. Speaking of which, Annabelle, have you ever considered our family? Your two older ’brothers’ are still single, you know. I’m very easygoing; I guarantee I’d be a wonderful mother-in-law."

Annabelle feigned shyness. "Oh, Aunt Miller, I just got back to the country. I still feel so young. You’re making me blush."

HA HA HA HA! As the two of them shared a laugh, Cecelia Archer saw her opening and chimed in.

"Mrs. Miller, with your flawless skin and noble bearing, that ring looks absolutely breathtaking on you. I think this is the first time in my life I’ve truly understood the meaning of ’unearthly beauty’ and ’worth every penny.’ And it’s all thanks to you."

"Miss Young, I think next time one of your designers has a creative block, you should just have them take one look at Mrs. Miller. I guarantee they’ll be endlessly inspired."

With both Annabelle Young and Cecelia Archer showering her with compliments, on top of her already considerable self-regard, Mrs. Miller felt beautiful enough to ascend to the heavens.

And as she looked down at the ring on her finger, she found it looking more and more appealing.

"Listen to you two sweet-talkers. Well, since this ring is such a perfect fit for me, I’ll buy it. I’ve worked hard for this family for thirty years. I deserve to treat myself to a nice gift."

Annabelle: "Exactly. Your husband loves you so much, he would surely support your decision. Cecelia, quickly ring up the sale for Mrs. Miller."

She never expected to make a sale just minutes into her first day. Cecelia Archer scrambled to the computer to type up the invoice.

A moment later, the ring—worth over 4.6 million—was sold.

After seeing Mrs. Miller off with the utmost politeness and fiery enthusiasm, Annabelle Young turned and clapped Cecelia Archer on the shoulder.

"See? I told you you were a natural at this. You chimed in at the perfect moment. You absolutely deserve this sale. Based on a one percent commission, you just earned forty-six thousand. Congratulations."

Cecelia Archer knew she’d only gotten the commission because Annabelle Young had wanted to help her. If Annabelle had passed the customer to one of the veteran saleswomen, Cecelia wouldn’t have even had a chance to get a word in.

"Miss Young, I really don’t know how I can ever thank you."

"Doing a good job is the best way to repay me."

Annabelle Young patted her shoulder again. "All right. I have other things to attend to, so I can’t stay. You got this."

As she watched Annabelle Young leave, Cecelia Archer went back behind the counter and made a silent vow. ’I have to learn all the products here as fast as I can, memorize their supposed meanings, and actively pitch them to customers. I need to get Candy that new hospital room! Let’s do this!’

Nearby, watching the boss’s daughter show such blatant favoritism, the other veteran saleswomen rolled their eyes so hard they nearly saw the ceiling.
