Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Young Master Is Unhappy Too

With that, she tried to lift Aidan Grant down, but he stomped his feet angrily. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"No! I’m in the middle of giving the new teacher her interview test! It’s fine! I’m not an idiot. I know it’s dangerous to fall off a chair. I can stand here just fine by myself, okay?"

The nanny was speechless.

Seeing the nanny’s concern, Cecelia Archer quickly said,

"He’s just curious about cooking. I only wanted to let him watch me up close. It’s just noodles; I won’t let him get hurt. If you’re still worried, you can help by standing next to him and watching."

With a dark expression, the nanny stood beside the chair, protectively hovering over Aidan Grant.

Cecelia Archer chopped a tomato, washed a handful of greens, and let Aidan Grant help crack two eggs. Then, she started cooking the noodles for him.

It was the first time Aidan Grant had ever cracked an egg. He found it fascinating and watched Cecelia Archer’s every move, absolutely delighted.

Once the noodles were ready and drizzled with sesame oil, he took a bite and decided it was the most delicious thing he had ever eaten.

After quickly and contentedly finishing a large bowl of noodles, Aidan Grant grabbed Cecelia Archer’s hand.

"Weren’t we going to the amusement park? Let’s go!"

Before Cecelia Archer could say a word, the nanny rushed over again.

"Go where? You’re going out with her? That’s ridiculous! Young Master, you don’t even know her! What if she’s a bad person?"

The nanny was furious.

Aidan Grant’s mother had died in a car accident when she was nine months pregnant with him. The nanny had raised the boy single-handedly since birth.

For her service in raising the boy, Mr. Grant always treated her with great respect.

Mr. Grant was always busy with work and rarely came home. The boy had a very peculiar temper, and almost no one besides her could calm him down.

’But today... Isn’t this woman trying to steal my credit?’

The nanny stormed into a room to grab her phone.

"Sir, the tutor Ms. Sawyer recommended came over this morning."

"And? Does Annie like her?"

She sighed meaningfully. "These young teachers nowadays... it’s hard to say, but they certainly have their ways. I don’t know what she did to trick Annie. Not only does Annie like her, he’s even secretly calling her ’Mama.’ Now he’s kicking up a fuss, demanding to go to the amusement park with her..."

After a few seconds of silence, Shane Grant on the other end of the line said, "Handle it as you see fit."

The nanny returned to the dining room and, with an air of immense authority, said to Cecelia Archer,

"I’m sorry, but the master just called. He said he has already personally found a tutor for the young master. Thank you for your time, but you may leave now."

"What?" Aidan Grant flared up.

Cecelia Archer, however, was quite satisfied with this outcome. She crouched down in front of Aidan Grant and took his small hand again.

"It’s all right. It’s normal to not get a job offer. There are plenty of people in the world who are more qualified to teach you than I am. Cheer up, Annie. It’s not like we’ll never see each other again. I’ll be picking up Candy Archer every day. Next time we meet, I’ll have a surprise for you."

"A surprise? You’re going to give me a gift?"

"It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you," Cecelia Archer said, lightly tapping his nose. "Let’s keep it a mystery for now. You’ll find out tomorrow. I’m going to go now. Goodbye."

In just this short time together, Annie had become captivated by the feeling of talking with her. He held tightly to Cecelia Archer’s hand, refusing to let go.

"But I don’t want you to leave. I want you to talk with me forever. Miss, please agree to be my teacher, then we can talk every day, okay?"

"If you’re worried you won’t have time to take care of Candy Archer, you can bring her with you! Our house is huge! There are so many rooms, it’s more than enough for both of you to live here!"

His words were getting more and more outrageous. The nanny stepped forward and pulled their hands apart.

"That’s enough, Young Master. It’s getting late. We need to get to school."

Annie lunged forward again, wrapping his arms around Cecelia Archer’s neck. "Miss, leave me your address and phone number! When my dad gets home tonight, I’ll talk to him and then I’ll call you!"

Seeing the expectant yet reluctant look in his eyes, Cecelia Archer couldn’t bear to disappoint him. She keyed her number into his smartwatch.

"Regardless of whether I become your teacher or not, you can call me anytime you want to talk."

After leaving the villa and returning home, Cecelia Archer took Candy to the hospital for a full-body check-up.

Many of the test results wouldn’t be back for a few days, so with nothing else to do, she took Candy to a kids’ play park for a fun day out.

「The Grant Residence.」

After finally making it through the school day, Aidan Grant rushed home, eager to see the father he hadn’t seen in days.

His father rarely spent time with him, so their relationship was distant. Normally, Aidan wouldn’t initiate contact, but today, he rushed to his father the moment he walked in the door.

"I really liked the tutor today. I want her to come and be with me every day, but she has a daughter. If she’s here with me, she can’t take care of her daughter. So, I want her and her daughter to come live with us. Is that okay, Dad?"

Shane Grant’s handsome features darkened.

’The nanny was right after all. Young women these days will do anything to claw their way into wealth and status.’

’Just one short interview, and she’s already bewitched his son this much. And she’s a divorced woman with a child? The nerve!’

"Annie, I’m not a philanthropist. I have no obligation to provide for a stranger’s every need. You can’t just impulsively invite people to live in our home. This world is full of duplicitous people. Don’t say such foolish things again."

’But the lady isn’t a bad person!’

His father had rejected his request without even meeting the woman himself. Annie was heartbroken.

"Dad, didn’t you say that a boy needs to learn to think for himself and have his own judgment? I don’t think she’s a bad person..."

The weather forecast predicted a typhoon for that evening, and Shane Grant’s old leg injury was beginning to ache. He was not feeling well.

"That’s enough. I didn’t make a fuss about you fighting with your classmate yesterday; that shows I already trust you. Annie, Daddy’s tired, and I still have a lot of work to do. Can you please just let me have some quiet time?"

Looking at his cold, distant father, Aidan Grant’s eyes filled with tears of disappointment and hurt.

’His dad was the busiest person in the world! So busy he didn’t even have time to say a few words to his own son! It was so lame!’

’If he dislikes me so much and doesn’t care about me, then why did he even have me?’

Back in his room, staring at a pile of cold, lifeless toys, he couldn’t help but think of the gentle Cecelia Archer.

Cecelia was cooking when her phone rang. Candy answered it: "Hello?"

"Candy Archer, this is Aidan Grant. Is your mom there?"

"My mom’s cooking right now. How did you get her number? Do you need to talk to her?"

"No, it’s fine... Did you guys go to the amusement park today?"

"Yeah! We had so much fun! Mom said she’s making a big feast for me tonight... You don’t sound very happy. Have you eaten yet?"

"No," Aidan Grant said, sitting on the floor and picking at his bedsheets as tears of dejection dripped down his face. "What are you guys having?"

"Spicy crab, crawfish... Aidan Grant, are you crying? Do you want to come over and eat with us?"

"C-can I really?"

Candy was as enthusiastic as she was generous. "Of course you can! I’ll send you our location right now!"
