Chapter 290: 290 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

When things had been settled to some extent, Elody and Zala’s group stayed at the Sphinx Island branch and continued training with my clone. Then, when the standby ship was deployed, they would go out together, facing pirates and gaining real combat experience.

Meanwhile, news came from Amazon Lily that the wedding preparations were finished. So I took my wives, who had been waiting on the Merchant’s Island, and moved together to Amazon Lily. It had been a while since I’d seen my wives all made up and dressed beautifully — it was a pleasure for the eyes. Unfortunately, Vivi had to wear a mask to hide her identity, though.

"You all look pretty dressed up like that after so long?"

I said it as a compliment, but none of them looked pleased.

"Haa... if you didn’t even say that, we’d really be upset."

Robin sighed deeply and spoke, and Hina and Vivi nodded in agreement. For some reason, I felt like my standing in the household was gradually shrinking. At this rate, I wondered if I’d end up completely under their thumb.

Arriving at Amazon Lily like that, I took my wives and showed them around Amazon Lily. As we passed by, the people of Amazon Lily congratulated us on the wedding.

"Taejin, congratulations on your marriage~"

"Live happily with the Snake Empress!"

"Ah~ I want to marry a man as handsome as Taejin too."

They probably didn’t know much about men, but because of my activities, they had come to know about men to some extent. Whether this would have a good effect or a bad effect, I couldn’t tell yet.

We continued sightseeing and arrived at the store Hancock had prepared on Amazon Lily. At the store, Margaret was busy explaining products to customers and selling them. With a few days having passed since the store opened, it wasn’t very crowded, and Margaret looked much more relaxed.

"Ah, Taejin, you’re here. Congratulations on the wedding. The leather and oil are stored in the warehouse. And because of the wedding, it seems, clothes and accessories have sold a lot, so inventory is quite low."

"Got it. I’ll restock right away."

"How should we handle the settlement?"

"Let’s settle later. There are still customers, aren’t there? And since today is the wedding, close the store early and come have some good food too."

"Okay."

I had my wives rest upstairs for now, went to the warehouse, put the leather and oil into my inventory, and restocked the goods. After that, I went back upstairs and rested with my wives.

When I came up, Hina spoke.

"It seems you’re busy here too."

"Well, yes. Since this is an island where only women can come, I can’t send merchant ships. So I have to come myself."

"I see."

My wives and I rested in the lodging, chatting, and before I knew it, it was time for the wedding. We finished preparing together and went outside. Granny Nyon was to officiate, but she was so short she had to stand on a large wooden box to be seen.

"Bride enters!"

When Hancock’s sister Marigold, who was acting as the announcer, called out, Hancock, wearing a white wedding dress, walked shyly with Sandersonia toward where I was standing.

"Wow~ so beautiful, Snake Empress!"

"So this is what a bride looks like. I want to get married too."

"But there are no men on our island."

"I know, right."

"You never know. Now that we’re allied with the Merchant’s Island, maybe other men besides Taejin will come too."

"But will those other men be as handsome as Taejin?"

"That, I don’t know."

The people of Amazon Lily praised Hancock in her wedding dress, and at the same time, they began to have expectations — maybe other men would come through this opportunity, and they too could get married. I thought that this might make it even easier for Amazon Lily to join Sky Island. But if this phenomenon overheated, I didn’t know what kind of side effects might occur.

While I was thinking such thoughts, Hancock approached me. I took her hand and stood on the platform together. Then Granny Nyon cleared her throat and began the ceremony.

"Ahem~! A groom must be someone who stands silently by his bride when she is sick or tired, nyon. A spouse is more needed on such days than on happy days, nyon. When the bride is struggling, a warm touch can be more comforting than words, nyon. The bride must also be someone who believes in and supports her groom when he falters, nyon..."

Surprisingly, Granny Nyon had written a fairly decent, conventional wedding speech. But because she kept adding ’nyon’, it was a bit hard to concentrate.

"Groom, you may kiss the bride!"

Smack~!

"I hereby declare you husband and wife, nyon!!!"

Wah wah~!!!

"Snake Empress, be happy~!"

"Congratulations, Snake Empress~!!"

When the wedding ended, the people cheered and blessed the marriage. After that, the people ate the prepared food and chatted. I also supplied a lot of food and drink from my inventory, so I didn’t think there would be any shortage.

Hancock and I were about to go to the newlywed room prepared in Kuja Castle, but Granny Nyon quickly stopped us.

"Snake Empress, you have to throw the bouquet before you go, nyon! There’s a saying that the person who catches the bouquet will be the next to marry, receiving the bride’s love and happiness, nyon."

"I don’t believe in such superstitions. You take it, Granny Nyon."

Hancock, perhaps not liking Granny Nyon interfering, just threw the bouquet she was holding to Granny Nyon. Then Granny Nyon, who caught the bouquet by accident, was extremely flustered.

"Eh!!!! You want me to get married???!!!!"

Ignoring Granny Nyon, Hancock blushed and said to me.

"Taejin, let’s go now. To our own little nest."

"R-right."

We went to the bed to consummate the marriage. Hancock hesitated for a moment, then spoke to me.

"Taejin, I’m sorry to bring this up now, but I need to say this. I have experience. When I was a Celestial Dragon’s slave, without regard for my will, I was forced into it several times. I’m sorry... for being this body..."

It must have been hard for Hancock to talk about this, but she told me the truth. To be honest, I had also expected it to some extent. Because there was no way the Celestial Dragons would have just left Hancock alone.

"It must have been a painful memory, hard to talk about — you must have agonized over it. But I won’t dislike you or anything because of that, so don’t worry. And I have wives and experience myself, so I have no intention of blaming my partner for having experience."

Then Hancock, seemingly moved, shed tears and hugged me tightly.

"Ah... I am such a happy woman. To think I would meet a man with so much understanding."

We spent a hot night like that until dawn the next day. I wondered if there might be something wrong with her body because of what she suffered as a Celestial Dragon’s slave, but aside from not being a virgin, there wasn’t anything particular like that.

We had spent such a hot night that we slept in late, then got up and moved to the large bathhouse to bathe together.

"Haa... I never knew being with someone you love could feel this good. May I ask you often?"

Hancock asked, shyly.

"I’ll come to Amazon Lily often. We’ll enjoy ourselves then."

When I said that, Hancock smiled brightly and hugged me tightly.

"I’m so happy I wonder if it’s okay. Please come often."

After bathing like that, I chatted with Hancock, promised to come again soon, and headed to the second floor of the store, where my wives were staying.

"Hina is angry!! You’re way too late! Think about us too!!"

It seemed Hina was quite angry again. It was almost evening, so I had been a bit late.

"It’s their first night, so it’s understandable."

Robin said, drinking tea. Then Vivi, with an expression of not understanding, asked Robin.

"What exactly do they do that you can say it’s understandable for them to be this late?"

"Vivi, you’re still young, so it’s okay not to know. In a year or two, you’ll naturally understand."

Robin smiled and said. Vivi looked very curious, but didn’t ask any further.

The wedding finished like that, and I took my wives back to the Merchant’s Island in the Talaria Campervan, and first prepared a delicious meal for them. Then, only then, did my wives’ moods seem to improve a bit.

Not everything was finished, but thanks to running around busily, things had been sorted out to some extent, so now I decided to visit another world as well.

"End leisure!"

I gained quite a lot of points — the Paramount War must have had a big influence. And Kalifa’s bond level was again strange.

’Hmm... I didn’t know Kalifa thought of me that way. Is this a good thing? The CP9 kids could turn at any time, after all.’

I thought about various things, then opened my status window.

Unfortunately, I was just barely short on points, so I couldn’t do 50 consecutive draws.

"I should visit a worldview I can enjoy simply. What would be good..."

I opened the leisure life window and scrolled through the work list. Then, one game that I had greatly enjoyed caught my eye.

"Oh~ Cyberpunk 2077!!"

For ’Cyberpunk 2077’, there were two major works — the animation ’Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ and the game ’Cyberpunk 2077’. The chronological order of the worldview is Edgerunners first, then 2077.

So I decided to go to Edgerunners first.

Starting point: Beginning of original story

There was something about Edgerunners that I really didn’t like. It was the story about Rebecca. Rebecca pines for a man and ends up dying a gruesome death — I really didn’t like that. So I had two goals. First, to seduce Lucy myself, and give Rebecca a chance to end up with David. Second, to prevent the pizza ending. And since the Cyberpunk 2077 worldview is a futuristic city, there were also many vehicles to obtain.

I immediately changed the settings.

Settings: 18‑year‑old, well‑known solo mercenary

Starting point: 3 years before the original story

(Points deducted: -541)

I thought that three years before the original story would be enough time to change everything. And I set myself as a ’well‑known mercenary’ because I was too lazy to deliberately go around finding fixers to build up a reputation.

’This should be enough.’

Having changed the settings like that, I entered the Cyberpunk worldview.

The apartment I lived in was the Glen apartment, located in Heywood — not quite Corporate Plaza, but a luxury apartment that was quite pricey. The interior was a two‑floor structure, and on the first floor, there was an armory, a sofa, a TV, a spacious kitchen, and a pool table, and on the second floor, there was a bedroom and a shower.

I first hacked various things in the apartment and read the information. My name was still ’Jin’, and judging by the fact that I was quite famous, there were plenty of credchips containing eurodollars. Then, when I looked at the armory, there were only custom ’Overture’ dual pistols and a katana. It seemed the setting was that I had been working with these until now.

The Overture is a revolver pistol with quite powerful firepower, but as a revolver, it had the disadvantage of only being able to fire 6 shots. The katana, perhaps because it was the future, used a fairly high‑quality alloy, but it was a bit inferior to the katana I had made in One Piece. So I first used [Material Manipulation] to make the pistols and katana even more powerful.

And in the Cyberpunk world, there was something that was absolutely necessary. That was the basic implants that people basically wore. Since Cyberpunk is set in a futuristic city, people all have socket devices installed in their heads and behind their necks that enable communication, can store encrypted currency, and can insert shards containing various information.

Seeing a phone lying around on the bed, it seemed the setting was that I had been doing requests without implants until now, but I couldn’t continue like that. Without basic implants, there would be limits to obtaining request information, and I couldn’t pay with credchips every time I bought something.

But I had absolutely no intention of installing anything in my body. So what I came up with was a cybernetic helmet with a ’head‑up display’. I put AI into the helmet, making it capable of performing roles beyond basic implants. Moreover, I designed it to open even at the back of the head, considering convenience so that there would be no discomfort when eating.

And I also custom‑made a comfortable bulletproof combat suit to match the helmet, and finished by wearing a jacket over it as an upper garment, with the Chinese character ’進’ (Jin) stylishly engraved on the back.

Having finished my outfit like that, I transferred all the credchips in the apartment into my helmet. Having spent the day making the helmet and combat suit at home, it had become evening, so I decided to go outside, partly to look around.

I had two personal vehicles. One was a sturdy car, the ’Shion Coyote’ from Mizutani — fitting for a mercenary — and the other was a bike, the same ’Arch Nazaré’ that Jackie rides. Both were tastefully decorated in black and yellow.

Then I went down to the parking lot and checked out the other cars as well. Perhaps because it was a luxury apartment, I saw quite a few decent cars. So I used [Stealth], walked around for a while, duplicated the cars with [Material Copy], and quickly stored them in my inventory, repeating the process.

’What a goldmine.’

After doing that for a while, I drove the Shion Coyote out and toured Night City. As expected, the air was terrible from pollution, and the food being sold was so full of chemicals that I wondered, ’Is it really okay to eat that and not have health problems?’ Moreover, even the ingredients seemed to be made from things like sawdust, so it seemed I would have to give up eating out in this worldview.

After touring around and sightseeing Night City like that, the sun set, so I decided to go to ’El Coyote Cojo’, run by Jackie’s mother ’Mama Wells’, near my apartment, the Glen, to have a drink.

I parked my car in the parking lot next to El Coyote Cojo and went inside El Coyote Cojo. Then the bartender, Pepe Najarro, recognized me. It seemed that before I made a name for myself, I used to come here often.

"Oh~ who do we have here! Jin! Really long time no see. I thought you were playing in the big leagues and wouldn’t be coming here anymore."

He seemed quite happy to see me, so I smiled as if it had been a while and spoke.

"Haha, I just missed the drinks here sometimes, you know."

"That’s good to hear. So, what’ll you have?"

"Choose something that’s not heavy but tastes good."

At my words, Pepe thought for a moment, then spoke.

"Those kinds of drinks are usually expensive — is that okay?"

"It’s fine."

"As expected, you must be earning well, playing in the big leagues, huh?"

"Well... something like that."

Then Pepe poured a drink that looked high‑end. It was quite pricey, but it wasn’t to the point where I couldn’t afford it. And the drink was at least edible, since it didn’t contain too many chemical ingredients. I don’t know if it was because it was expensive, though.

Just then, someone entered the bar. Then Pepe called out to that person.

"Jackie! A welcome guest has come to the bar today!"

"Yeah? Who is it that you’re so... oh~! It’s Jin! My handsome friend, long time no see!"
