Chapter 283: Chapter 283: Adrian Law Is Destined to Spend His Life Alone
Although Stacy Summers was getting on in years, she was definitely not the type of old lady who was slow-witted.
She took the Prescott Hospital’s examination report statement handed to her by Cecilia Vaughn, her gaze growing increasingly solemn.
She glanced over the examination date at the bottom, gripping the report tighter and tighter.
"My dear grandson, was this report done by your good friend, Zion Prescott?"
When Stacy Summers spoke again, her voice was no longer as loud and powerful as before, instead carrying a few tired rasps.
"Yes."
Adrian Law nodded, looking firmly at Stacy Summers with an attitude as unyielding as ever.
"Grandma, if you’re questioning Zion’s medical ethics just because he and I are friends, there’s no need for that."
Stacy Summers waved her hand, leaning tiredly against the doorframe of the ambulance, rubbing her temples with some fatigue.
"Adrian, you’ve misunderstood, I don’t think Doctor Prescott needs to fake anything like this."
Stacy Summers’ expression softened a bit, she paused, her gaze shifting to Cecilia Vaughn.
"Cecilia, when did you find out the bracelet was poisonous?"
Cecilia Vaughn smiled wryly, pointing to the date on the last line of the report.
"Look, it’s today. If it weren’t for doing a health check for Mimi, and if Doctor Prescott didn’t happen to know some traditional medicine spices, I wouldn’t know when I would have taken it off."
Thinking about this, Cecilia Vaughn still felt a lingering fear.
The craftsmanship of that bracelet was indeed beautiful. Although she had never told anyone, Cecilia Vaughn actually quite liked peonies, especially the Golden Star Snow Wave white peony, so she always wore that bracelet.
Cecilia Vaughn didn’t think Rosalind White even knew this little hobby of hers, but coincidentally or not, it was enough to be frightening.
...
Stacy Summers hugged Cecilia Vaughn somewhat sympathetically.
"Cecilia, you’re a good child. Grandma knows you’ve been wronged. That bracelet is a harmful thing, just throw it away. Grandma will double compensate you in the future."
Cecilia Vaughn shook her head. She wasn’t a saint and certainly bore no grudge against the innocent hobby of an old lady.
"Grandma, I don’t need any compensation, this matter has nothing to do with you either..."
Just then, the unconscious Rosalind White let out a low cough.
"Ugh... it hurts..."
Stacy Summers’ expression hardened slightly as her aged yet dignified eyes passed over Rosalind White, seeing her pale and lovely face, and the red jade bracelet on Rosalind White’s left wrist, her expression darkened.
Stacy Summers reached for Cecilia Vaughn’s hand, her dry, strong palm carrying an inexplicable strength.
"Cecilia, since everything’s out in the open, why don’t you and Adrian have the bracelet Rosalind’s wearing also examined?"
"Rosalind, she..."
Stacy Summers looked at Rosalind White once more, this young woman she had watched grow up, when did she turn into someone unrecognizable even to her, this elderly lady?
Stacy Summers’ face, lined with wrinkles, showed an expression akin to wanting to speak but hesitating.
She sighed, holding Cecilia Vaughn’s hand with more force after a few seconds.
"Rosalind just hit her head out of desperation, probably with suicidal thoughts... Once her bracelet is examined, if there’s a problem with hers too, let this matter rest."
To harm others and oneself, such a situation was something Stacy Summers never even considered before.
Yet happening absurdly in front of her eyes still made her feel a stabbing pain in her heart.
...
On hearing Stacy Summers’ words, Adrian Law’s handsome brows furrowed in disapproval.
"Grandma, what do you mean? If there’s a problem with the bracelet Rosalind White is wearing herself, does that prove she’s innocent?"
Stacy Summers glanced over the indignant Adrian Law, wrinkling her old face, rebuking.
"Adrian, this is an ambulance, is this how you talk to your grandma? Right or wrong, grandma has her judgment of that!"
Adrian Law was closest to Stacy Summers in the Law Family, yet today, he clashed with her for perhaps the first time in over twenty years.
"Grandma, do you mean to just let this go?"
Stacy Summers gazed blankly at Adrian Law, glancing at Cecilia Vaughn, while a strange sense of emotion washed over her.
She certainly understood, Adrian Law was standing up to her today all because of Cecilia.
The men of the Law Family, each stronger and more domineering than the last, but there’s always a woman in their lives they’d bend the knee for. Preston Law had one, Frank Law had one, and Adrian Law was no exception.
Stacy Summers just hoped Adrian Law wouldn’t follow in his father Frank Law’s footsteps of losing interest and betraying affection.
...
Cecilia Vaughn felt equally uneasy seeing Stacy Summers and Adrian Law argue.
She quickly glanced at Adrian, then awkwardly smiled at Stacy Summers.
"Grandma, don’t take it to heart. Adrian’s just worried and lost his cool. He didn’t mean to have a conflict with you."
Empathizing, Cecilia Vaughn understood the difficulty Stacy Summers faced.
Rosalind White, raised by the Law Family like their own granddaughter for over a decade, also saved Adrian Law’s life, and now she preferred to hit her head to prove her innocence. If she really died, it would probably be most distressing for Stacy Summers.
With clarity like a mirror, Stacy Summers now saw through the filthy side hidden behind Rosalind White’s pretty façade, which would naturally make her wary, and this was the best outcome for Cecilia Vaughn.
What she feared most were patriarchs who didn’t discern right from wrong but insisted on establishing authority.
...
Seeing Cecilia Vaughn handle the situation sensibly, Stacy Summers’ anger lessened.
She patted Cecilia Vaughn’s shoulder with a touch of emotion.
"Cecilia, you don’t need to explain for Adrian, my dear grandson just has such a rotten temper. Fortunately, he found a good wife like you, otherwise, I’d really fear he’d end up alone."
Adrian Law: "..."
"Grandma, that’s not possible."
Hearing Stacy Summers speak so earnestly about her grandson ending up alone, Cecilia Vaughn couldn’t help but burst into laughter, instantly dissipating the tense atmosphere inside the ambulance.
...
A few minutes later, the ambulance arrived at the nearest hospital.
It wasn’t Prescott Hospital, but Stellerton Naturopathic Hospital.
Following Stacy Summers’ instructions, Adrian Law removed the bracelet from Rosalind White’s hand and took it out for examination.
Upon seeing the final examination result, Adrian Law’s pupils narrowed slightly, and eventually, his lips pressed into a tight line.
Seeing his expression so unpleasant, Cecilia Vaughn also leaned over to take a look.
She gazed at it for a long time and finally let out a quiet sigh.
"Miss White... truly is ruthless."
The report, from fragrance to metal, was identical to Cecilia Vaughn’s bracelet.
With matters reaching this point, Cecilia Vaughn had no intention of putting Stacy Summers in a tough spot.
And Adrian Law let out a cold laugh.
"Cecilia, are you saying she’s ruthless to herself? I think it’s not enough!"
Cecilia Vaughn was taken aback, not understanding Adrian Law’s meaning, when suddenly the emergency room door swung open.
"The patient is awake—"
