Chapter 818: Chapter 817

"And there’s more..."

Simon lowered his voice and looked at Serena. "On the day of your car accident four years ago, she did in fact leave the Imperial Capital."

His final words were cold and heavy. For Serena’s car accident, the hit-and-run driver confessed quickly and cleanly. He suspected it had something to do with The Ford Family, but after investigating The Dowager Kane and June, there wasn’t a single clue.

He had never imagined the car accident would end up being tied to Felicity Sterling, the girl they’d raised.

"The Ford Family helped her hide her whereabouts."

Simon continued, the previous Ford servants hadn’t dared betray The Dowager Kane and June, but the current ones had their eyes set on money, and with Mrs. Kane’s indulgence, they practically couldn’t wait to spill every last thing about June.

According to the Ford servants’ recollection, Felicity rushed back in a panic that day, her face flustered.

June pulled her into a room, and when they came out again, she told all the Ford servants that to the outside world—Simon included—they were to say Felicity had been at The Ford Family’s house the entire day.

"We can’t be sure if she went to Solaria."

Simon added.

"Oh."

Serena responded lightly. "In that case, maybe it wasn’t her."

Only Felicity herself truly knew where she had gone that day.

"The hit-and-run driver has been locked up in the station this whole time. He refuses to come out."

Simon went on to bring up Felicity’s biological father.

The man, seeing that he hadn’t actually killed Serena, broke down crying on the spot, saying he was useless.

Now he was still being held at the station, insisting through gritted teeth that no one had put him up to it.

Just like four years ago, his "confession" attitude was impeccable.

Did he truly know he was wrong, or was he covering for someone?

Hearing all this, Serena couldn’t put a name to what she was feeling.

She wanted to know who had tried to kill her four years ago, yet she also didn’t want the truth laid so bare.

She didn’t want to keep being entangled with Felicity like this anymore! fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

Serena braced her hands on the table in front of her. Seeing her try to stand, Simon hurried over to help.

Once she was up, she walked forward slowly a few steps. When she reached the window, she pulled her hand out of Simon’s.

A few days ago, when the car came barreling at her, she wasn’t hurt because she had stood up from her wheelchair on the spot.

After the surgery, she had regained feeling in her legs, and after such a long period of rehab, she could now stand and even walk a few steps.

But that didn’t mean the pain of the past would disappear because of it.

"Back then I also checked the road surveillance. There was only that man in the car."

Simon said, "But the surveillance back then wasn’t as advanced as it is now. Some blind spots just didn’t get recorded."

"Even if we go back and pull up the footage from four years ago, there won’t be anything useful."

Seeing Serena staring at the scenery outside, Simon softened his tone. "But I’m going to get to the bottom of this."

Once he knew the hit-and-run driver was Felicity’s biological father, Simon realized how badly he had been wrong all these years.

He had wanted to protect Claire and the others, yet in the end, he was the one who had pushed Serena into the abyss.

If he hadn’t ignored her and the others in Solaria, if he hadn’t fed the Ford Family’s greed, how would June have dared lay a hand on Serena on the Sterling family’s island? How would Felicity have ended up entangled with what happened four years ago in any way?

"If she was the one who incited that guy to hit you, I’ll make Felicity pay the price."

Simon promised solemnly.

Serena didn’t answer. She turned her head to look at Simon and gave a faint smile. "She grew up by your side. You think you can really be that ruthless?"

"As long as it has anything to do with her!" Simon replied.

He had raised Felicity and did have feelings for her, but he knew the difference between right and wrong. And he had only one daughter—Serena.
