Chapter 1678: Chapter 1678: Sleepless All Night
The moment she smelled a delightful aroma while coming downstairs, her pace quickened.
"Smells so good." She rushed downstairs quickly and smiled at the maid, "I’m starving."
"Good morning, Miss Gu." The maid smiled gently, "I heard Miss Gu likes porridge, so I specially made some this morning."
"Thanks a lot!" Gu Anjin sat at the dining table, waiting for the maid to serve her a bowl.
Yue Siqing stood on the staircase, watching her carefree smile, as if last night’s events hadn’t affected her at all.
His steps were somewhat heavy as he walked down.
"Brother Siqing?" Gu Anjin’s eyes widened in surprise when she saw him walking over, "What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at the company at this time?"
She thought he would have left already, given that he had rushed back for something urgent and busy.
"No." Yue Siqing replied coldly and casually, pulling out a chair to sit across from her.
He hadn’t slept all night, postponing the morning meeting.
For some reason, he didn’t even lock the door last night, yet he didn’t hear her pacing outside all night.
And she didn’t even come in to check on him in the morning.
She wasn’t like this before.
Whenever she was up early, she would come and knock on the door to see if he had left.
If not, she would drag him to have breakfast together.
"Why are you staring at me, Brother Siqing? Is there something on my face?" Gu Anjin had only taken a few bites when she looked up and saw his puzzling gaze. She didn’t know what was up with him. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
She put down her spoon and wiped her face.
"Do I need to check a mirror?"
"It’s nothing." Yue Siqing averted his gaze and took the hot porridge handed over by the maid.
Gu Anjin shrugged helplessly, looking at his complexion, "You don’t look too good, what’s up?"
"There’s too much work at the company, stayed busy until late last night."
She nodded, speaking as she ate, "No wonder you’re going so late today, you should rest more. Like my mommy tells my daddy, there’s no end to earning money, just earn enough."
"That’s because your daddy leaves everything to your brother."
Gu Anjin chuckled, "Yeah, luckily I have my brother. If they relied on me, they’d be doomed. So Brother Siqing, you better have a son quickly, he can help share the burden when he grows up."
The hand holding the spoon in Yue Siqing’s hand suddenly stopped.
"But it’s not that daughters can’t do it. I know female friends who are great at helping manage the company, and they’re no less capable than men. It’s just that fewer of us girls have that ambition. If you have a daughter, she might just want to play piano like me... Well, that’s not entirely right. Even if you have a son, he might love piano. There are more boys than girls in my class, after all."
As Gu Anjin spoke, she stopped again.
Noticing the slightly off expression on Yue Siqing’s face, she asked, "What’s wrong? Did I scare you? Alright, alright, these things are unpredictable."
Yue Siqing paused, "I’ve never thought about those things."
"Never thought about what?"
"Never thought about children." His voice was a bit cold, reciting without emotion.
Gu Anjin initially felt a bit disappointed, but then she remembered, after all, his future wife wouldn’t be her.
"Not wanting kids is fine too." She shrugged indifferently, "Do you remember Annie, who often hung out with me in high school? She’s childfree, doesn’t want kids in this lifetime, and is living quite freely."
