Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Akun Runs into Trouble
"What? What happened to Akun?"
Wang Hao listened, his face registering shock, a twinge of unease also settling in his heart.
"Brother Kun has been rushed to the hospital, it’s best if you come over in person!"
The voice seemed to be A-Qi’s, and judging from A-Qi’s tone, Akun’s injuries appeared to be quite severe.
Wang Hao didn’t dare delay, he hung up the phone immediately, grabbed his clothes, and headed to the hospital. Before leaving, he specifically instructed Xia Xue not to leave the house unless absolutely necessary.
When Wang Hao arrived at the entrance of the hospital by taxi, he saw several of Akun’s subordinates standing there with grave expressions on their faces.
Getting out of the car, Wang Hao noticed a few of Akun’s men were also wrapped in bandages, so he approached and asked,
"What exactly happened?"
Akun’s men, however, hung their heads and didn’t dare to speak, causing Wang Hao’s brows to promptly furrow.
Wang Hao rushed to Akun’s ward and upon seeing Akun swathed in bandages, looking like a mummy and still in a coma, his anxiety spiked. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Speak up, what exactly happened to Akun?"
Wang Hao glared at an injured A-Qi and demanded.
"We’re not sure what exactly happened, but the brothers said they heard noises coming from Brother Kun’s room in the middle of the night, quite loud ones. By the time we got there, Brother Kun was already like this,"
A-Qi looked dejected, wanting to seek revenge for Akun but not knowing who the target should be.
"Was the scene examined? Did you find anything suspicious?"
Wang Hao continued to ask.
A-Qi pondered and shook his head.
Clean and traceless work of the crime scene immediately made Wang Hao think of those bandits who had fled for their lives.
But those bandits had fled from the northern Mongolian side and didn’t know the local hooligans like Akun, so why would they target them?
Wang Hao couldn’t make heads or tails of their actions.
"How is Akun’s condition now? What do the doctors say?"
What Wang Hao cared about most was Akun’s injuries, he turned and asked A-Qi again.
"The doctor said he is out of life-threatening danger but still needs to be kept in the hospital for observation. He was stabbed over forty times, and the meridians in his limbs have all been severed. I’m afraid he’ll have to spend the rest of his life lying in a bed,"
A-Qi clenched his fists tightly, his face full of anger as he spoke.
Wang Hao took one look at Akun lying on the hospital bed without a word, then left the ward with a few brothers to Akun’s house.
Akun’s home was in the suburbs on the edge of the county town, a small western-style building he had built himself, complete with a large yard.
Three luxury cars, all highly valued, were parked at the gate.
Before Wang Hao’s arrival, the police had already been there, sealing off the crime scene, and Akun’s family had been taken away by the police.
Wang Hao climbed over the surrounding wall and entered, reaching the room from the outside balcony.
Everything in the room remained as it was, but it did not appear disordered, only traces of blood on the sofa were visible.
But with over forty stabs on Akun’s body, the little amount of blood inside the room implied that the murderer’s knife work was swift and virtually bloodless.
Wang Hao struggled to imagine how the murderer managed to inflict over forty stabs on Akun in such a short time, especially since Akun, being an underworld character himself, knew a trick or two. It seemed the murderers were no simple lot.
But where had they escaped from?
Wang Hao couldn’t help but look towards the window, which was wide open, its curtains billowing in the wind.
Just as Wang Hao was looking out the window, a white sedan drove slowly along the road outside, and the person in the passenger seat was wearing a hat and sunglasses, staring into the room. Clearly, the passenger seemed very aware of what had transpired inside the house.
Witnessing such a scene, Wang Hao jumped directly from the second-floor window and shouted to his waiting brothers below.
"Quick! Follow that white car up ahead!"
As he spoke, Wang Hao had already slipped into the passenger seat through the car window, his movements as fluid as clouds and water, leaving his subordinates gaping in amazement.
Akun’s men didn’t dare to delay, quickly starting the car and accelerating to catch up with the white sedan.
Meanwhile, the people in the white car seemed to have noticed they were being followed and thus sped up to escape.
They raced along the road, arriving at the county center.
Wang Hao knew the other party wanted to use the heavy traffic in the town center, with its many diverging roads, to have a better chance of shaking them off, so he ordered Akun’s men to disregard the traffic lights and to drive straight through to keep up with the white car.
The white car, seeing that Wang Hao and his group were doggedly pursuing them, threw spikes onto the ground. Akun’s men couldn’t dodge in time, and their tires were punctured by the spikes.
But they were still gritting their teeth and continuing to follow the white sedan closely until it executed a drastic maneuver and turned into a small road.
Akun’s men, not fully understanding the situation, followed into the turn, but their car had a blown tire and, amidst a sharp turn, the vehicle was no longer under control and crashed into a streetlamp on the roadside.
No sooner had the car stopped from the crash than Wang Hao leapt out and chased after the direction the white car had escaped in.
But the white car was exceedingly fast and had already disappeared around the next corner.
Wang Hao was so frustrated that he stamped his feet, wishing he could just fly after them.
Just as this thought crossed his mind, however, he suddenly felt a swelling pain in the meridians of his legs, followed by a sense of immense strength filling them.
Never before had Wang Hao experienced such a sensation. He exerted force and, like an arrow released from its bow, surged toward the next turning point.
"Yo, isn’t that Brother Hao?"
At the turn, Zeng Qiang suddenly appeared, right in front of Wang Hao.
Behind Zeng Qiang were over a dozen of his underlings who, seeing Wang Hao alone, immediately revealed smug smiles.
"I say, Brother Hao, this is my turf, Zeng Qiang. Are you deliberately crashing around here to provoke me?"
As Zeng Qiang spoke, his subordinates had already surrounded Wang Hao.
All Wang Hao could think about was catching up to the white sedan, having no recollection of whose turf he was on.
He himself didn’t expect to have stumbled onto Zeng Qiang’s territory so coincidentally.
When Akun’s men caught up and saw Zeng Qiang, their expressions changed abruptly, and they warily started to back away.
"Wang Hao, the other day you made me lose face in front of so many people. Today I’m going to beat you until you kneel and beg for mercy. Attack!"
With a wave of his hand, Zeng Qiang’s followers immediately grabbed their clubs and rushed toward Wang Hao.
"Smack!"
"Stop! Everyone get down!"
Just then, a stern shout accompanied by a gunshot came from behind Wang Hao; everyone quickly put their hands over their heads and crouched down. Looking up, they saw a portly police officer pointing a gun at them.
"What are you doing?"
The portly police officer roared, holstering his gun and moving toward Zeng Qiang with a fierce glare that seemed almost carnivorous. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"Oh, if it isn’t Officer Pang, don’t you recognize me? You must at least recognize my dad, right?"
Zeng Qiang said with a scornful face.
"Zeng Qiang, if you’ve committed a crime, I will arrest you without hesitation!"
The portly police officer said indignantly, staring down Zeng Qiang without any fear of the power behind him.
Zeng Qiang scoffed and looked at the portly officer disdainfully.
"Yo, Officer Pang, which eye of yours saw us doing something illegal?"
