Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Being the Scapegoat

Before long, Wang Hao returned with a backpack on his back. Although he wasn’t sure about one against five, he didn’t take one-on-one lightly.

"I wonder why number five has been gone so long, nothing’s happened to him, right?"

The leader of the Treasure Hunters felt that something was off, so he took the rest of the people back to look for number five.

Now only Wang Hao and Gao Shenglin were left in front of the entire palace.

"Grandpa Gao, there’s no entrance here, how can we get in?"

After the others had left, Wang Hao couldn’t help but ask.

"These coffins are usually sealed shut; the only way to force our way in would be to blow them open with explosives,"

Gao Shenglin said.

"So, there’s no other way?"

Wang Hao was somewhat disheartened.

"The ancient texts didn’t describe a method to open the coffins, and since previous Treasure Hunters had never made it in, they naturally wouldn’t know how to do it,"

Gao Shenglin said helplessly.

Wang Hao did have explosives in the backpack he had snatched, but he was afraid the noise might attract those desert camels.

Moreover, Wang Hao wasn’t a professional and didn’t know how much explosives would be needed to blast the entrance open. If he got the amount wrong, and the treasures inside were destroyed, all their efforts would have been in vain.

This was probably why those people just now hadn’t resorted to using explosives.

If the treasures inside were destroyed, he would become a sinner through the ages.

"There’s really no other method?"

Wang Hao couldn’t help but ask again.

"There is one more, but I doubt you have what it takes,"

"What method? Tell me quickly!"

Wang Hao was somewhat impatient to know.

"You ask the tomb owner inside to open it for you,"

Gao Shenglin said sarcastically.

Wang Hao knew Gao Shenglin was mocking him, so he gave him a roll of his eyes.

Convinced that Gao Shenglin couldn’t think of a better way, Wang Hao decided to wait for those desert camels to come over and see if they had a better method.

It wasn’t long before the five Treasure Hunters came back cursing and swearing.

"I don’t know how you’re so useless, even getting knocked out by that old man,"

the leader of the Treasure Hunters kept complaining.

"I don’t know, wasn’t it because number four didn’t tie up the old man properly? By the time I got there, the old man was gone, and before I knew what was happening, I was knocked out,"

number five felt wronged and kept trying to justify himself.

"You’re admitting you’re useless, why drag me into this?"

number four protested unwillingly.

"Alright, alright, it’s getting late, and tomorrow the miasma will rise again, probably making this route impassable. Let’s make the most of our time,"

the leader of the Treasure Hunters thought for a moment and then said.

"Let’s just blow it open!"

No sooner said than done, the people put all their explosives in one corner of the palace and then hid behind a stone pillar to light the fuse and set off the blast.

"Boom—"

With a loud explosion, a corner of the palace was blown open. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

The Treasure Hunters jumped up in excitement and quickly turned on their flashlights to look inside.

Number five was about to light a candle to go inside, but was stopped by the leader.

"Are you crazy? There’s no air circulation in here, and the rotting corpses have released a lot of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. These gases might explode if they come into contact with open flames. Put it out now,"

he said and then blew out number five’s candle.

"There’s not enough oxygen inside now; let’s wait a bit and let the air circulate before we go in."

About an hour later, the boss checked the time, then lit a candle at the doorway. Seeing no flickering in the flame, he felt it should be safe now and led four men inside.

"Fuck, run!"

They had just entered for less than two minutes when suddenly, one of them yelled loudly, and the group ran back out.

Wang Hao looked up curiously and saw that many centipedes had crawled out from inside.

These centipedes were of strange shapes, enormous in size, and especially numerous, covering the ground in a dense mass that made one shiver all over just at the sight.

"Oh, my God!"

Gao Shenglin had a natural fear of these venomous crawling creatures and, upon seeing such a great number of bizarre centipedes, let out a scream and fainted.

"Who’s there? Who’s that?"

The Treasure Hunter leader, hearing the noise, immediately drew the gun at his waist and headed in Wang Hao’s direction.

The entire palace had only a few columns to hide behind, and they were spaced so far apart; and with five armed men aiming their guns toward Wang Hao’s direction, there was little chance of escape.

With no other choice, Wang Hao raised his hands and walked out.

"So it’s you. Enemies do meet on a narrow path, to run into you everywhere."

The Treasure Hunter leader shone his flashlight on Wang Hao’s face and sneered coldly.

Suddenly, the Treasure Hunter leader looked back at the blown-open entrance, his eyes shifted, and then he holstered his gun, tossed Wang Hao the flashlight, and said.

"Today’s your lucky day. I’m giving you a way out. Go on, you go in and take a look. If you can come out alive, I’ll let you go!"

"Me?"

Wang Hao couldn’t believe it; this was clearly making him a pathfinder for them!

However, this was actually rather easy for Wang Hao.

"If the boss tells you to go, you hurry up and go. What are you yammering about!"

The fourth man, holding a gun, stepped forward and gave Wang Hao a kick, thinking it didn’t matter if the kid survived; could their five men not overpower him alone? They’d just take the treasure and return.

If the kid died inside, then they would come up with another plan.

They pointed their guns at Wang Hao and led him to the blown-open corner. The centipedes immediately raised their heads, waving their antennae as if ready to attack at any moment.

The sight alone was enough to make one’s scalp tingle, and nobody dared to move forward.

"You, get in there!"

The Treasure Hunter leader urged Wang Hao forward, slowly retreating step by step.

These centipedes had lived in such dark and damp conditions all year round, were venomous, and peculiar in species and size.

Even if bitten, there might not even be an antidote for this venom, and a bite would mean certain death.

The desert camel was somewhat aware of these dangers, and thus, not daring to go forward himself, he coerced Wang Hao into entering as a sacrificial lamb.

"Gentlemen, these centipedes aren’t poisonous, are they?"

Wang Hao couldn’t appear too calm; he had to at least play the part so that the Treasure Hunters wouldn’t catch on. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Not poisonous. We, the desert camels, have been treasure hunting for generations and have seen all sorts of venomous creatures. Just go on in, heh heh!"

The fourth Treasure Hunter grinned maliciously.

"Then why don’t you go in yourselves?"

Wang Hao pretended to be very scared.

"Quit your damn babbling and get in there or I’ll shoot you dead right now!"

The boss pointed his gun at Wang Hao, impatiently.

"I’m going, I’m going right now!"

Wang Hao quickly turned and headed toward the blasted entrance, thinking to himself that this was their own choice to send him in, and they better not regret it!

As Wang Hao was about to step in, he saw the centipedes raising their antennae aggressively, a clear sign they were venomous.

Their antennae moved bit by bit, and their tails swayed non-stop, as if warning Wang Hao not to come closer.

Wang Hao hurried to the edge of the gap when suddenly a centipede "whooshed" onto Wang Hao’s arm and bit him.

In pain, Wang Hao cried out, and his cry attracted even more centipedes. In no time at all, Wang Hao was covered in centipedes from head to toe...
