CHAPTER 50 — FIERY UNION
The Dragonspine Mountains glowed beneath the light of dawn.
Ash drifted lazily through the air as if the mountains themselves were breathing.
Vespera stood upon a circular arena carved into black volcanic stone.
She had chosen her Abyssal Queen form.
Dark scales shimmered with violet light.
Her wings remained folded.
Her tail rested against the stone behind her.
Across the arena stood Elyra.
The Dragonkin princess wore crimson armor etched with ancient runes.
Her spear burned with living flame.
Around them, hundreds of Dragonkin warriors watched from towering stone terraces.
No one spoke.
This duel would decide more than pride.
It would decide whether the Dragonkin viewed the Abyssal Domain as an enemy...
...or as an equal.
An elderly Dragonkin elder raised his staff.
"By the ancient laws of Drakhar..."
"This is a Trial of Honor."
"No armies."
"No interference."
"Victory shall be earned."
He struck the stone once.
"Begin." freeweɓnovel.cøm
Elyra moved first.
She crossed the arena in a heartbeat.
Her spear erupted into blazing fire.
Vespera twisted aside.
The molten stone exploded where the weapon struck.
"So the stories were true."
Vespera smiled.
"They weren't exaggerated enough."
She answered with Shadow Step, vanishing into a veil of darkness.
Elyra grinned.
"Better."
Steel and flame echoed across the arena.
Elyra's attacks were relentless.
Every strike carried overwhelming strength.
Every movement was disciplined.
Vespera answered with speed and adaptability.
She shifted effortlessly between forms.
One moment she fought as a graceful human swordswoman.
The next, she became the towering Abyssal Queen, using her tail and wings to control the battlefield.
The Dragonkin spectators murmured.
"She changes forms..."
"I've never seen anything like it."
Hours seemed to pass.
Neither warrior gained a decisive advantage.
Elyra laughed as their weapons locked together.
"I haven't enjoyed a fight this much in years."
Vespera met her gaze.
"Neither have I."
There was no hatred between them.
Only respect.
Without warning...
The mountain trembled.
A deafening roar echoed from beneath the arena.
Cracks spread through the volcanic stone.
The elders' expressions changed instantly.
"No..."
One whispered.
"The prison..."
"...has broken."
A colossal magma wyrm burst from beneath the arena.
Its body stretched hundreds of feet.
Its molten scales glowed brighter than lava.
Its jaws opened with a roar that shook the mountains.
Dragonkin civilians screamed.
The duel was forgotten.
The beast lunged toward the spectators.
Vespera reacted instantly.
She transformed into her Abyssal Queen form and threw herself into its path.
Her wings shielded dozens of civilians from the blast of molten rock.
Elyra didn't hesitate.
She leaped onto the wyrm's neck.
"Left side!"
She shouted.
"The scales are weaker there!"
Vespera trusted her immediately.
Shadow chains erupted from the ground, binding the creature for a single precious second.
It was enough.
Elyra drove her blazing spear deep into the exposed scales.
The wyrm shrieked.
But it wasn't finished.
Its tail slammed into the arena.
The impact hurled both women across the shattered stone.
Vespera forced herself back to her feet.
The System chimed.
Emergency Quest
Protect the Dragonspine Dominion
Objective:
Defeat the Ancient Magma Wyrm.
Reward:
???
Failure:
Catastrophic loss of life.
Vespera smiled despite the danger.
"So much for a friendly duel."
Elyra wiped blood from the corner of her mouth and laughed.
"I was starting to think you were holding back."
She extended her hand.
"Temporary alliance?"
Vespera clasped it firmly.
"Partners."
The two charged together.
Darkness and fire intertwined.
Shadow spears pinned the wyrm's limbs while torrents of dragonfire crashed into its chest.
Vespera switched seamlessly between her human form—using agility to evade the creature's strikes—and her Abyssal form, meeting its raw strength head-on.
Elyra adapted just as quickly, timing every attack to complement Vespera's movements.
Neither commanded the other.
They fought as equals.
The Dragonkin watched in stunned silence.
One elder whispered,
"They're synchronizing..."
"...after only moments."
Far below the arena... freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Hidden beneath layers of volcanic rock...
A hooded figure watched through a crystal orb.
The emblem of the Cathedral of Light gleamed faintly on his cloak.
"So..."
"The Dragonkin Princess has chosen cooperation."
He smiled coldly.
"The Archbishop will not be pleased."
The crystal dimmed.
The spy disappeared into the darkness.
As sunset painted the mountains crimson, the battle still raged.
The Ancient Magma Wyrm roared one final time before drawing an immense breath.
Its next attack promised to consume the entire arena.
Vespera and Elyra exchanged a single glance.
No words were needed.
They had reached the same conclusion.
To stop the beast...
They would have to combine everything they had.
The fate of Dragonspine would be decided by the strike they unleashed together.
