CHAPTER 40 — THE RISE OF THE ABYSSAL DOMAIN

The battlefield had become a graveyard of broken weapons.

Smoke drifted across the valley.

The cries of the wounded echoed beneath a blood-red sky.

At its center stood two rulers.

One fought for domination.

The other fought for a future.

Rhazakar rested his colossal greatsword across one shoulder.

His armor was cracked.

Blood streamed from a dozen wounds.

Yet the Blood King only laughed.

"Not bad, Queen."

"You've finally become someone worth killing."

Across from him, Vespera stood in her newly evolved Abyssal Queen form.

Dark wings of Abyssal energy unfurled behind her.

Her golden eyes burned with quiet resolve.

She said nothing.

Words had carried them this far.

Now...

Only actions remained.

Rhazakar roared and charged.

His greatsword descended with enough force to split the earth.

Vespera vanished.

Abyss Step.

She reappeared behind him in human form.

Her smaller body slipped through his guard.

A slash of her enchanted blade cut across the gap in his armor.

Before he could retaliate, black mist enveloped her once more.

She returned to her Abyssal form, driving her tail into his side with crushing force.

The Blood King staggered.

Then laughed again.

"Hah!"

"That's more fucking like it!"

Around them, the battle still raged.

Kragga's warriors drove the Crimson Fangs back toward the western ridge.

"Don't let the bastards regroup!"

The orcs answered with a deafening war cry.

Above, Kaelyra's harpies had finally seized control of the skies.

Enemy wyverns fled, pursued through the clouds.

Sylvana's enchanted roots continued to split siege engines apart while Stonehide warriors advanced behind their massive shields.

The tide had turned.

Rhazakar planted his sword into the ground.

Crimson energy erupted around him.

The air itself trembled.

The System flashed.

A wave of crimson energy swept across the battlefield.

Several allied warriors fell to one knee beneath the pressure.

Vespera felt it too.

Ancient.

Violent.

Built entirely upon fear.

Rhazakar grinned.

"This..."

"This is how kings rule."

"They crush anyone too weak to stand."

Vespera looked across the battlefield.

She saw Lirael helping wounded soldiers.

Kragga refusing to abandon injured orcs.

Sylvana shielding children behind walls of living vines.

Captain Rowan pulling both humans and monsters out of the rubble without caring which race they belonged to.

This...

This was her kingdom.

She raised one hand.

"Sovereign's Command."

A pulse of violet light expanded across the valley.

It washed over every allied warrior.

Fear faded.

Exhaustion lessened.

The banners of the Abyssal Domain rose proudly into the wind.

The army answered with a roar that shook the mountains.

Rhazakar stared.

"...Impossible."

"No."

Vespera replied quietly.

"You're just seeing something you've forgotten."

"My people don't fight because they fear me."

"They fight because they believe in tomorrow."

The Blood King attacked one final time.

With a furious shout, he swung everything he had into a single devastating strike.

Vespera transformed into her human form.

She stepped inside the arc of his blade.

For a heartbeat...

Everything slowed.

She placed one hand against the flat of his greatsword.

Dark mist surrounded her.

She returned to her Abyssal Queen form in the same instant, her newfound strength forcing the blade harmlessly aside.

Her tail coiled around Rhazakar's weapon arm.

Royal Venom flowed through her claws.

She stopped them just short of his throat.

Silence.

The battlefield froze.

The Blood King looked into her eyes.

He expected triumph.

He found only sadness.

"It's over."

Rhazakar laughed weakly.

"You should kill me."

"That's what conquerors do."

Vespera slowly withdrew her claws.

"I'm not building an empire on executions."

A murmur spread through both armies.

The Blood King blinked.

"You'd spare me?"

"I'll spare those willing to lay down their weapons."

She looked beyond him.

"Those who continue the fight..."

"...accept the consequences."

One by one...

The Crimson Fang soldiers lowered their weapons.

Then another.

Then another.

Three days later...

The central plaza of the Abyssal Domain overflowed with life.

Representatives from every allied clan stood together.

Ashwing banners fluttered beside those of the Broken Axe Clan.

Stonehide warriors stood shoulder to shoulder with goblin craftsmen.

Even Captain Rowan watched from among the honored guests.

At the center of the plaza, Lirael stepped forward carrying a newly forged crown.

It was unlike any crown of the old kingdoms.

Black crystal.

Silver vines.

Golden serpent motifs woven through its design.

She smiled. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"My Queen."

Vespera shook her head gently.

"Our Queen."

Lirael placed the crown upon Vespera's head.

The crowd erupted.

"Long live Queen Vespera!"

"Long live the Abyss!"

"Long live the Domain!"

The cheers echoed across the mountains.

Far beyond the Abyss...

Kings, nobles, monster lords, merchants, and priests would soon hear those echoes.

Some with hope.

Most with fear.

Deep within the Cathedral of Light, the High Archbishop extinguished a candle.

"So..."

"The Blood King has fallen."

A hooded Inquisitor knelt before him.

"What are your orders?"

The Archbishop opened an ancient tome.

On one page was an illustration of a woman wearing a serpent crown.

He traced the image with one finger.

"The false Sovereign has survived."

He closed the book.

"Summon the Inquisitors."

"And send word to every kingdom."

His eyes hardened.

"The next war..."

"...will not be fought in the Abyss."

"It will consume the continent."

What began as a struggle for survival has become the birth of a kingdom. Vespera has united monster clans once divided by fear, defeated the Blood King, and taken her first true step toward changing the Abyss forever.

But victory has also drawn the attention of the outside world.

In Arc 3: Empire Rising, the story expands beyond the Abyss. New kingdoms, powerful enemies, political intrigue, ancient mysteries, and even greater challenges await.
