Chapter 1: Transmigration

*BAM*

*Screech of tires*

After being hit, the driver tried as best he could to regain control of the vehicle. The impact had been too violent, and the Lamborghini had just suffered irreparable damage.

The car crashed onto the highway.

The injured driver had avoided instant death thanks to the anti-crash system, but despite his seatbelt and airbags, he had suffered severe head trauma and was struggling to regain his senses.

The blood flowing from his head obstructed his vision.

"Urgh."

"What the hell just happened? Damn, it hurts."

The driver was a young man in his twenties. His Lamborghini had just been violently rammed by an all-black van. freewebnovel.cσ๓

The young man’s name was Mamadou, the founder of GAIA Corp.

A young man whose prestige was coveted by many, but who was also at the center of numerous controversies, such as the management of resources surrounding AI and the development of the revolutionary video game Pangea.

A game entirely managed by AI. Interactions with NPCs, the world, the game’s story—aside from certain progression quests, everything was generated by AI, creating the illusion of a complete world that evolved on its own.

Many people were eagerly awaiting the game, while others viewed it very negatively.

The testing phase had just ended. All that remained was to launch the beta.

As usual, Mamadou had stopped by the shopping center to make a few personal purchases. But on his way back to GAIA Corp’s headquarters, his car had been deliberately rammed.

"Damn it."

He looked around. His car’s control module had been destroyed, so he could no longer communicate with his AI, Belle. However, he knew that a distress signal had been transmitted. Under normal circumstances, emergency services would arrive soon.

Mamadou nevertheless tried to stand up, only to discover bitterly that his feet had been crushed. Aside from a slight discomfort, he felt no pain in them; only the pounding headache tormenting him.

"Damn it, what’s happening to me..."

As he tried to collect himself, he heard a man’s voice coming from the direction of the van that had struck him.

"He’s still alive?"

The man’s voice was rough.

Is he talking about me?

Mamadou wondered anxiously.

The man began walking toward the Lamborghini. Mamadou couldn’t clearly make out his silhouette because of the blood blocking his vision, but since these people had hit him, they would naturally come to check on his condition.

"Yes, I’m still alive. Get me out of here or call emergency services quickly."

As soon as the man got close enough, Mamadou immediately understood.

This person was anything but a good man.

The man wore a black balaclava. He had an imposing build. No part of his skin was exposed.

Whoever he was, one could tell he wasn’t here to leave any traces behind.

Mamadou paled at the sight of him.

He quickly searched for the right words as he saw the man’s hand move.

"No matter how much they promised you, I’ll give you more..."

"Wait, wait—"

The man pulled out a revolver and pointed it at Mamadou’s temple.

"Wait—"

Mamadou couldn’t finish his sentence before the bullet was fired under the man’s indifferent gaze.

Thus, the man known as Mamadou, the founder of GAIA Corp, died.

---

"???"

Even though he was supposed to be dead, the fog clouding Mamadou’s mind gradually dissipated, as if he had suddenly become more lucid.

Was all of that just a dream?

But it had felt far too real!

Or am I dreaming right now?

I think I read somewhere that at the moment of death, our brain is flooded with some kind of substance and experiences a surge of activity, which can cause hallucinations or explain phenomena where people claim to see the afterlife.

Am I in a similar state, living through my final moments?

What was strange was that little by little, Mamadou could feel his body.

He was immersed in darkness, yet he could make out a light in the distance.

Am I really dead, and that’s the light everyone talks about?

Or are my eyes simply closed?

Mamadou’s body trembled when he awakened. His mind had been following that light, but the moment his consciousness reconnected with his body and he opened his eyes toward it, he immediately looked away.

Damn, that stings.

The sensation was similar to what you would feel if you had been locked away in a place without light for months and were suddenly exposed to brightness.

He immediately closed his eyes again.

Calm down, Mamadou. I don’t feel any pain.

I’m probably alive. If I survived this ordeal, I’ll be more careful in the future.

I never would have thought I’d be assassinated.

???

After a moment, Mamadou noticed that he couldn’t hear his own voice. He tried shouting, groaning, and speaking, but nothing came out.

Intrigued, he slowly opened his eyes again, this time allowing them to adjust to the surrounding light.

He had come up with several possibilities. He had survived and was in a hospital or some kind of medical facility where he was being treated.

But everything he had imagined was far, far removed from reality.

There were trees everywhere.

What kind of hospital would be located on a mountain covered in trees?

The scene before him was swarming with hundreds of giant monkeys.

Oh my God, what have I done?

Do monkeys the size of humans even exist?

I’m dreaming. That has to be it.

Instinctively, Mamadou raised his arm.

What he saw shocked him even more.

Fur?

Hair?

Don’t panic. Don’t panic.

I’m dead and in hell, right?

Why is all of this happening to me?

Or is this one of those situations where you die and get reincarnated or transmigrate?

I’m not suddenly going to unlock a status window or something like that, am I?

Haha.

Would you like to unlock the Status Window?]

[Y/N]

A mechanical voice devoid of emotion echoed inside Mamadou’s mind.

Ah, shit. I’m screwed.
