Chapter 419: Face
OOPS.
Winter opened his big mouth and made it obvious that he knew so much about luxury that only the royal family and the nobles could experience.
He kind of zoned out because he was tired of trying on different clothes.
Now Dad and Brother Julian are looking at me weirdly.
Thankfully, Winter was a good liar.
"I used to work for a noble family, my lords..."
Unfortunately, his father and older brother weren’t dumb.
They’re obviously not convinced.
However, both his father and older brother didn’t say anything about his obvious lie.
Are they letting it slide?
"I see," his father said bluntly, obviously not convinced. "It’s late. Wrap this up and rest." Their father said that while looking at Winter and Julian back and forth. "Both of you."
Winter and Julian answered at the same time.
"Yes, my lord."
"Yes, Father."

THE NEXT few days had been hectic for Winter.
After choosing his clothes, they had to choose the accessories that would go well with his outfit.
This time, he shut his mouth and let Julian choose for him.
Thankfully, my brother has the same sophisticated taste as I do.
The problem was the lesson that he had to take.
Since Winter would be attending the royal banquet, his father hired teachers to teach him proper palace etiquette.
However...
"I have nothing else to teach the young boy, my lord," the male teacher said to Kalel Moonchester while bowing his head. "This young boy acts more noble than any noble children I’ve taught."
Kalel Moonchester raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"
"The young boy’s manners are flawless, my lord. It’s as if he’s been living as a noble all his life. No— I actually wouldn’t be surprised if the young lord turned out to be a royal from a neighboring kingdom."
Oh, no.
This teacher talks too much.
Winter thought about faking it and making it look like he was struggling.
But he realized that it would mean longer lessons.
Hence, he just acted like his usual self.
"I see," Kalel Moonchester said indifferently as if he weren’t surprised anymore. "You’re dismissed."
The male teacher bowed his head politely before leaving the room quietly.
Winter knew that his father would interrogate him, so he tried to leave.
"My lord, I’ll go ahead and see if Young Master Julian needs my help or something—"
"Stay."
"Okay, my lord."
"You’re speaking strangely again."
"I’m sorry..."
"Why would you apologize for that?"
Winter just kept his mouth shut this time.
I never learn, huh?
"Are you a royal family member from a foreign kingdom?"
"I’m not from a foreign kingdom, my lord."
"Then did you change your appearance?"
"I did no such thing, my lord."
It was a half-lie.
The truth was that his appearance had changed drastically.
But he wasn’t the one who changed how he looked when he got there.
So, I didn’t really lie.
Kalel Moonchester looked at Winter long and hard. "Whatever you did to change your appearance, you better do it again. Your ’mask’ is slowly falling off."
What?
Winter touched his face unconsciously. "My ’mask?’"
"I can see a bit of your real face."
My real face?
Okay, that gave Winter goosebumps.
"For now, only people on the same level could see it. But we’re headed to the royal palace, child. It’s full of people who are on the same league as me."
No, that couldn’t be true.
Only Mommy could come close to Daddy’s level.
"Fix it before then," Kalel Moonchester said. "It will be hard to deceive His Majesty."
Oh.
Winter was doomed then.
Why is my real appearance suddenly showing?
***
WINTER worried for a few more days about his real appearance showing.
In fact, he even tried calling the deity who brought him there.
But to no avail.
He only lost sleep because of worrying.
That could actually be a good thing, though?
After all, if I look haggard, then maybe I won’t look as good as my real appearance.
"Winter, did you do something to your face?"
Oh.
It was their departure day when Julian approached Winter, asking him that silly question.
But he was actually relieved.
"I look awful, don’t I?" Winter asked. At least, losing sleep suddenly became worth it. "I was too nervous because of the royal banquet to sleep properly."
"No, you look better than ever."
"What?"
"Your face... it somehow changed."
"Huh?"
"You look more good-looking now."
Oh, no.
Winter grabbed his face between his hands. "Really?"
Julian nodded, observing Winter’s face closely. And then the young lord focused on his hair. "Even your hair color is starting to change."
"That can’t be. I looked at the mirror this morning and I didn’t see anything strange..."
"Right? It seems like only Father and I notice."
Oh.
"Winter, I don’t know what you did with your appearance. But be careful," Julian said sternly. "His Majesty is someone you can’t deceive."
"I’m not trying to deceive anyone, young lord," Winter said. "I really don’t know what’s happening to my face..."
***
WINTER didn’t know what he expected, but he was quite surprised that he was riding on the same carriage as Kalel Moonchester and Julian on their way to the royal palace.
Is teleportation or a portal not yet famous in this era?
"You look uncomfortable, child," Kalel Moonchester, who was sitting across from Winter and Julian, said. "Don’t worry. We’ll use a portal once we reach our destination."
Oh.
Winter was quite flustered.
It’s as if Daddy can read my mind.
"Are you bored, Winter?" Julian asked kindly. "Should I lend you one of my books?"
Reading is more boring for me...
Winter was about to decline politely, but he froze when he felt the sudden change in the air.
And it was followed by heavy bloodlust.
Enemies!
"My lord, Young Lord, be alert," Winter said while looking outside the window. "We’re surrounded by enemies."
An ambush attack?
By whom?
