Chapter 42: Results Speak Louder Than Confidence

Silence settled over the café. The wall clock ticked steadily. 9:12 A.M. Aside from a handful of customers scattered across the first floor, the spacious café felt almost empty.

Charles glanced around before smiling faintly. "I’ve invested in enough businesses to know one thing." He looked at Liam. "The market doesn’t reward confidence. It rewards results."

Liam simply nodded. "I agree."Charles was slightly taken aback. "You do?"

"Of course." "That’s why I never rely on confidence alone. I rely on preparation."

Mr. Harlan’s eyes narrowed slightly. There wasn’t a hint of arrogance in the young man’s voice. Only certainty. That caught his attention.

Just then, the café door opened. A young man wearing a Westbridge University hoodie stepped inside, scanning the room. "Excuse me... Are there any VIP stations left?"

Ethan blinked. "Uh... yeah."

"I’ll take one."As Ethan finished registering him, two more students hurried in. "This is Rage Quit Café, right? The one with the custom gaming setup?"

Ethan nodded. "That’s us."Sweet. My roommate wouldn’t shut up about this place. I figured I’d see what all the hype was about."

Before they had even finished paying, the door opened again. Four students walked in together. One of them pointed excitedly at the rows of computers. "Dude, these are the RTX setups everyone’s posting online. So it really wasn’t fake."

Another laughed. "I told you. The recharge bonus is legit. And they let you keep your settings on your account. I’ve never seen another café do that."

Mr. Harlan quietly watched from the side. His expression remained calm. But his eyes had become noticeably sharper. "Hm..."

Five minutes later, more customers arrived. Then more. The steady trickle gradually became a stream. Every new customer seemed to know exactly why they had come. No one wandered in by accident.

One looked around before saying, "My guild leader told us to move here."Another grinned. "The campus gaming group has been talking about this place all morning. I figured I’d check it out."

Ethan’s fingers flew across the keyboard as he registered one customer after another. His earlier anxiety had completely disappeared. "Liam..." He whispered excitedly. "We’ve already doubled this morning’s numbers."

Liam smiled. "We’re just getting started."

Victoria glanced toward the entrance. Another group of students walked in. Then another. Every few minutes, someone pulled out a phone to message friends. Someone snapped pictures. Someone else recorded a short video. Without realizing it, the customers had begun advertising the café themselves.

Claire watched the scene unfold with growing surprise. "So this... was your marketing?"

Liam nodded. "I never expected everyone to come because of an advertisement. I only needed enough people to have a good experience. They’ll do the advertising for me."

Claire couldn’t help smiling. "Word-of-mouth. It’s far more convincing than any commercial."

"Exactly."Mr. Harlan slowly crossed his arms. His expression had changed. He was no longer evaluating the café. He was evaluating Liam.

Ten minutes later, the first floor reached capacity. "No more seats downstairs!" Ethan called out.

"I’ve got plenty upstairs," Liam replied.Customers immediately headed for the second floor. The sound of mechanical keyboards quickly spread throughout the building.

Laughter echoed across the café. Friends shouted across the room after winning matches. The once quiet shop had transformed into a lively gaming hub.

Charles’ smile gradually faded. He had expected a small morning rush. Not this. Certainly not this.

Then the front door opened again. A group of nearly fifteen students walked in together. One of them looked around before asking, "Any seats left?"

Ethan checked the system. "...Only six."The group exchanged disappointed looks. "We’ll wait."Another customer behind them overheard the conversation. "We’re waiting too."

Within minutes, a line had formed outside the café. Students chatted excitedly while waiting for computers to become available. Some were already downloading the membership app before stepping inside. Others were inviting classmates through the university gaming forum.

Mr. Harlan slowly walked toward the window. He looked outside. Then back inside. Then outside again. For a long moment, he said nothing. Even Charles had fallen completely silent.

Victoria covered her lips with one hand, unable to hide the smile spreading across her face. "So many people..."

Claire looked at Liam. He hadn’t moved. He still stood there with one hand in his pocket, calmly drinking his Coke as though everything unfolding around him was exactly as expected. Somehow, that quiet confidence made him even more attractive than before.

For the first time, she let herself admit it. She hadn’t come today because she was worried about the café. She’d come because she wanted to see him win. The rest of it — the small, guilty thrill in the wanting — she chose not to examine too closely.

Mr. Harlan finally turned around. His eyes met Liam’s. The skepticism that had been there earlier was gone. Replaced by something else. Respect.

"Mr. Sterling..." He spoke slowly. "I owe you an apology." The entire café grew noticeably quieter. Even Ethan looked over.

Mr. Harlan smiled. "When I walked in, I thought I was looking at another enthusiastic young man chasing a dream."

He glanced around the bustling café. "I was wrong. You weren’t chasing a dream. You were executing a plan." He extended his hand. "And a very good one."

Liam looked at the outstretched hand for a moment before accepting it with a firm, respectful shake. "Thank you, Mr. Harlan. I still have a lot to learn."

Mr. Harlan chuckled. "That’s exactly why you’ll go far." He looked around the bustling café once more be"I’ve been in this industry for over fifteen years." He turned back to Liam. "this," he gestured toward the packed room, this is strategy.

The location may be average, but you’ve given customers a reason to travel." He pointed toward a group of students laughing as they shared referral codes. "Most owners spend money chasing customers.

You made your customers bring more customers." A slow smile spread across his face. "I underestimated you. I won’t make that mistake again."

The moment those words left his mouth, Charles’ expression stiffened. His earlier confidence had vanished.

He had invited Mr. Harlan here hoping Liam would receive a harsh reality check. Instead, the industry’s veteran had publicly acknowledged him. There was nothing left to argue.

Victoria let out a breath, and some of the morning’s tension went with it. She had put her name behind him before any of this vouched for him to Charles, insisted the trip was worth making.

I should’ve trusted you," Liam looked at her. "You were only worried.I know."Claire hung back a step, watching him a bit too long. She thought of the balcony the night before.

He hadn’t been reassuring her. He’d simply been right. "So this," she said finally, "was why you sounded so calm."

Liam shrugged. "If I panic before my employees do, what confidence will they have?" She laughed, mostly to cover how long she’d been staring. "You really don’t act like an young man.

Before Liam could answer, Ethan suddenly rushed over from the counter. "Liam!" His face was bright with excitement. "We’re completely full!" He held up the tablet showing the occupancy dashboard. "Every station. Both floors.

And there’s a waiting list outside!"

His voice echoed through the café. Several customers clapped.

Others cheered jokingly. One student shouted, "Looks like we found our new gaming headquarters!" The room erupted with laughter.

At that exact moment, a familiar blue screen appeared before Liam.
