Chapter 2404: Chapter 2380: Epilogue
The Iranians left disgraced, with no choice but to walk away, taking along a dozen injured people with mobility issues, and two who were seriously wounded, one of whom might even die.
If it wasn’t for Salim’s unnecessary shot, the serious injuries could have been avoided, but after he fired, a chain reaction ensued, causing two Iranians to get hit, and one was shot in the leg, losing a lot of blood and possibly facing death.
"Lavagani will definitely retaliate, whether he dares or not he has to, or it’s very likely that Lavagani will be recalled, then someone else will continue to retaliate against you."
Chewing khat, Abdullah mumbled before spitting out the residue with a pop, then said worriedly, "This is really troublesome."
Gao Yang was truly annoyed by the Yemenis’ habit of chewing khat when discussing matters; he saw it as not just a drug habit but also quite disgusting.
"Since I dared to attack them, I’m not afraid of their retaliation. If they push me too far, or the Iranians kill me, naturally someone will stand up for me."
Gao Yang exuded confidence, though what he truly thought was something only he knew.
Abdullah didn’t bother asking Gao Yang why he attacked them; such a naive question was unnecessary. What he was concerned about now was how to ensure the Iranians and Russians could continue to coexist.
Instead of personally appeasing Lavagani, he sent his brother to do it while he came to talk to Gao Yang. This could be because Gao Yang and his men had consistently had the upper hand in conflicts, after all, the stronger side always earns more respect; or maybe Abdullah felt that Gao Yang’s side was the more challenging issue to resolve.
The more difficult problems always require someone in a higher position to come forward to deal with.
Abdullah placed some khat in his mouth and began chewing, then sincerely said to Gao Yang, "Aren’t you really going to try it? Khat is very refreshing."
"No, thank you."
Abdullah sighed and said to Gao Yang, "We are truly in a difficult position, really difficult, Mr. Petram, you should understand that our relationship with Iran is core. I respect you a lot, but if Mr. Lavagani insists on retaliation, maintaining neutrality is indeed challenging for us, how could we possibly stay neutral?"
Abdullah’s tone was somewhat self-deprecating, as he finally admitted he could not oppose the will coming from Iran.
Gao Yang waved his hand, smiling, "It’s okay, I understand all this. If Lavagani starts something again, it won’t be me who talks to him. Abdullah, my brother, I don’t want to put you in a tough spot, but there are some things I just have to do."
After speaking lightly, Gao Yang confidently added, "Honestly, I’d prefer if Lavagani just got lost. Tehran should send someone smarter here, and as long as the newcomer is smart, they wouldn’t cause these troubles. Don’t you think so?"
Abdullah wanted to warn Gao Yang, but after lightly stating his position, he decided that was enough, because he could only express his dissatisfaction without truly commanding Gao Yang.
Gao Yang represented Russia’s will, and even if Abdullah expelled Gao Yang, or even got rid of him, what difference would it make? It would only mean Russia would send someone else here, possibly changing the supported party.
As the host, he had to say something, but saying anything seemed futile. Apart from feeling annoyed and disgusted, Abdullah felt no other emotions, so after saying some lukewarm words, he stood up and took his leave, feeling a bit embarrassed.
After Abdullah left, the room prepared for him, previously belonging to Lavagani, naturally became Gao Yang’s.

After Abdullah left, Glolov let out a few spirited laughs; no matter what, giving a beating to someone you dislike is bound to make one feel great.
But Glolov quickly stopped laughing, frowning, "Lavagani is bound to retaliate; even if he promises not to cause trouble again, Iranians have never been known to keep their word, and even if Lavagani gets frightened, we have attacked Tehran’s dignity."
Gao Yang smiled, "If they want trouble, then truly fighting them, what then? We didn’t come here to fight Iranians, but we can’t just let Lavagani cause trouble and not respond. I suspect Lavagani is no longer fit to stay here, Tehran will replace him with someone to take charge. As I said, as long as they send someone smart, we shouldn’t have any trouble."
He took a sip of coffee and smiled, "After all, Iran is here to handle big deals, not to bicker with us, and as for the Houthis’ attitude, well, Abdullah never mentioned taking control back from the Dagger Assault Team, which means he still wants us to dilute the Iranian control over the Houthis, so don’t worry, nothing will happen."
Glolov with a confused look said, "I’m just an old mercenary, I don’t understand these political struggles. If you say it’s fine, then I’ll just assume it is."
Gao Yang sighed, "I didn’t understand before, but having spent time with Yarebin, Morgan, and Grand Ivan, you can’t help but learn some things, and eventually, you understand everything."
Glolov smiled reassuringly, "That’s right, they are all big players, learning from them, these issues will certainly not stump you."
Gao Yang chuckled, "Tonight Lavagani must attack the Presidential Palace, so he definitely won’t have time to bother us today. Whether or not he takes the palace, he’ll have plenty on his plate, and though Lavagani is a petty old man, he knows what’s important. So I don’t think he’ll have the time to retaliate against us in the next few days, but nonetheless, we’ll need to stay vigilant and reinforce our defenses. If the Iranians drive us out again, keeping face is secondary, but casualties would be a real loss."
Glolov sternly replied, "I’ll personally keep an eye on them, stepping up security over the next few days. Let’s have Joseph arrange the guards, he’s got quite a knack for defense."
Gao Yang nodded, then looked around the room and couldn’t help but laugh, "Though seizing Lavagani’s place wasn’t the main goal, it’s still more comfortable than a tent. Tonight, I can finally get a good night’s sleep."
