Chapter 683: Chapter 683: Misleading the Public with Nonsense
At this moment, the banquet hall of Zun Yue Grand Hotel was bustling with A-listers from the entertainment industry. Male and female stars, along with many young masters and daughters from wealthy families, chatted away in small groups.
Suddenly, Li Ran, Tajiguli, and Zong Rui ran into the hall, looking utterly disheveled. Their entrance drew everyone’s attention.
Ye Lin’er and Chen Yang, who had arrived a bit earlier, exchanged a glance, wondering what kind of spectacle the trio was making of themselves.
"What’s the matter with you three?" a well-dressed young man with an extraordinary air approached them, his face showing displeasure as he asked in a low voice. He was none other than the organizer of this celebration banquet, the producer, Wang Sikai.
"Well..." Li Ran stammered, recounting what had happened outside.
After listening, Wang Sikai’s brows furrowed. "The cars I sent to pick you up from the airport all had their tires mysteriously pop on the way. Now there’s a crowd of extras here at the hotel demanding payment from you. This feels like a setup!"
Li Ran, Tajiguli, and Zong Rui were stunned, the pieces only now clicking into place.
Zong Rui said, "That’s right! It’s definitely a setup, one specifically designed to make us look like fools in front of the reporters."
"It’s Ye Lin’er!" Li Ran exclaimed angrily. "Ye Lin’er must have arranged it. She wants to ruin our acting careers!"
"Exactly, it has to be her," Tajiguli confirmed with utter conviction.
"I think it’s her too," Zong Rui added.
"Besides Ye Lin’er, no one else has a motive to harm the three of them. I think it was her," the Director stated.
Wang Sikai pondered for a moment, then turned and gestured to Ye Lin’er, who was not far away. "Ye Lin’er, come here!"
Ye Lin’er and Chen Yang quickly hurried over. Ye Lin’er said sweetly, "Big Brother Wang, did you need me for something?"
Wang Sikai cut straight to the point. "The cars I sent to pick you up from the airport all got flat tires on the way. Did you have someone do that? And those extras outside demanding money from Li Ran, Tajiguli, and Zong Rui—was that your arrangement?"
Ye Lin’er looked completely bewildered. "Big Brother Wang, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."
Chen Yang’s gaze sharpened. She knew instantly that Li Ran and the other two must have been bad-mouthing Ye Lin’er to Wang Sikai to frame her.
"Keep pretending!" Li Ran sneered with disgust. "Ye Lin’er, do you think your little scheme was so clever? We saw right through it. You just wanted to use the opportunity of Young Master Wang’s celebration banquet to ruin us."
Ye Lin’er was even more confused. "Sister Li Ran, what on earth are you talking about?"
Just as Li Ran was about to continue her ’interrogation,’ Wang Sikai cut her off. "Li Ran, the three of you keep insisting that Ye Lin’er set you up. Do you have any evidence?"
"Yes!" Li Ran declared. "When we were filming in Nanjing, she hired some country bumpkin to be her bodyguard. He knew medical skills and was a War God. He constantly gave us trouble and even scammed all three of us out of our money. Then, when we got to Jin Ye City, the only car waiting at the airport was for Ye Lin’er, not for us. And outside the hotel, all the extras were demanding money from the three of us, not her. It’s as clear as day. It has to be Ye Lin’er!"
Ye Lin’er listened, dumbfounded. How could Li Ran lie so blatantly? From start to finish, it was Li Ran, Tajiguli, Zong Rui, and the Director who had been causing trouble. How could it be that in Li Ran’s version, she had become the villain, while the four of them were the victims?
"Ye Lin’er, is this true?" Wang Sikai asked.
Just as Ye Lin’er was about to object, Tajiguli jumped in. "Yes, the truth is exactly as Li Ran described."
Zong Rui added, "Li Ran was actually putting it mildly. The truth is, Ye Lin’er was a complete set tyrant. She was always coming up with new ways to bully and torment us."
"I can vouch for that!" the Director spoke up. "Young Master Wang, if you don’t believe us, you can ask anyone else from the crew. Everyone can testify."
Ye Lin’er was speechless. She didn’t know how to defend herself. They were all saying the same thing! The entire crew was ganging up to frame her!
"Ye Lin’er, I never would have guessed," Wang Sikai said angrily. "You’re so young and seem so innocent, but who knew you were such a venomous person in secret. I must have been blind to choose you for the reality show."
His voice was quite loud, instantly drawing the attention of everyone in the banquet hall. A crowd started to gather around.
Someone asked, "Young Master Wang, what’s going on?"
Wang Sikai was not only the producer of the reality show "I Got Lost in the Mountains," but also the young master of the Wang Family of the Northern Territory, a true scion of a wealthy clan.
Wang Sikai explained, "Here’s what happened. During the filming of the reality show, Ye Lin’er maliciously harassed and bullied the other actors and crew members. Today, I sent cars to the airport to pick up Li Ran and the others, and Ye Lin’er actually had someone sabotage the tires. She also paid a large group of extras to mob Li Ran, Tajiguli, and Zong Rui outside the hotel, demanding acting fees in front of reporters just to maliciously slander them..."
The crowd gasped, all turning to look at Ye Lin’er in shock.
"I’ve watched ’I Got Lost in the Mountains,’ and Ye Lin’er’s performance was great," one person commented. "I always thought she was a simple, sweet girl who was new to the ways of the world. I can’t believe she’s so malicious."
"The entertainment industry is truly a mess," another said. "A scheming, vicious woman was packaged as an innocent, lovely girl. This is just deceiving the audience."
"She’ll stop at nothing to get ahead. This Ye Lin’er is truly venomous."
The gossiping onlookers pointed fingers at Ye Lin’er, hurling insults at her.
"It’s not like that! I didn’t, I didn’t..." Ye Lin’er felt so wronged she was on the verge of tears.
"You have the guts to do it but not admit it? Ye Lin’er, you’re shameless!" Li Ran raised her voice. "You say you didn’t do it? Fine. I’ll leave you with nothing to say."
She pointed at Su Mu and Shi Hexuan. "You two, come out and testify. Was Ye Lin’er a set tyrant or not? Did she harass and bully us and the other crew members?"
Su Mu and Shi Hexuan were furious. Li Ran was trying to drag them down with her in public. If they helped Ye Lin’er, they would offend the director, the entire crew, Li Ran, Tajiguli, Zong Rui, and even Wang Sikai. They could forget about ever working in the entertainment industry again. But offending Ye Lin’er... seemed to carry no risk.
"Li Ran is right," Shi Hexuan, a former model, was the first to speak, deftly shifting the topic to Su Mu. "What Ye Lin’er did on set was utterly vicious. She even forced Su Mu to kneel and bark like a dog."
Su Mu was outraged. When had Ye Lin’er ever forced him to bark like a dog? If word of this got out, it would seriously damage his public persona! But Shi Hexuan had already said it. If he denied it now, it would only make everyone suspicious.
"Sigh!" Su Mu let out a long breath and said, "On the set in Nanjing, Ye Lin’er relied on her War God bodyguard and treated us and the rest of the crew as if we weren’t even human. She insulted us whenever she pleased, sometimes only letting us have one meal a day. She even made the director starve for two days."
