Chapter 427: Chapter 429: Mop

Just looking at them, it could imagine how painful it would be to feel flames scorching its body.

It shuddered in fear, glanced at Su Nian, and felt its entire ghostly being fall into despair.

Su Nian looked at the flattened gecko ghost, then expertly kicked it up into the air.

The gecko ghost was already severely injured, and now it felt like the pain was about to tear it apart. Its head was ringing, and its face was twisted in agony.

It couldn’t even stand up, and yet, it could still hear Su Nian’s contemptuous voice.

"That’s it?"

The gecko ghost was beyond furious. It was in a truly pathetic state—limbs twisted and broken, skin torn to shreds, and its entire ghostly form had been smashed flat by a large rock.

And frankly, the bottom of that well wasn’t a pleasant place. Though it was an entrance, it hadn’t been used or cleaned in years. The place had become filthy, and the gecko ghost had picked up the stench of a sewer.

Its skin, already nauseatingly clammy, had been thoroughly ruined by Su Nian. There wasn’t a single patch of it left unscathed.

It wasn’t even sure what was worse: the moment it had died, or this.

After all, death had been instantaneous. But now, it was suffering endlessly.

And though it was dead, the pain hadn’t gone away. Worse, its mind was still perfectly clear. The gecko ghost wanted to fight back, but having been beaten into such a sorry state, it could only surrender.

Su Nian prepared to stuff the gecko ghost into her suit jacket along with the others.

The gecko ghost was miserable, but it could only console itself internally.

’Oh, well. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!’

Its hateful expression instantly became placid and resigned. From inside the jacket, the ghost in the suit and the old lady ghost both gave it a disgusted look.

"What is that smell?"

Having been a ghost for so many years, the old lady ghost considered herself to be worldly. But the ghosts arriving today were all bizarre. This gecko ghost was a first for her, and its reek of gutter oil was enough to make her want to vomit.

The gecko ghost was about to try and cozy up to them to get the lay of the land and ask a few questions.

But the old lady ghost’s look of disgust made it swallow its words.

It could only turn its flattened eyes toward the ghost in the suit. The suit ghost, however, felt he had a position to maintain.

Besides, he wasn’t an idiot. He could sense that the boss’s attitude toward this gecko ghost was awful. ’Maybe they have some kind of old feud!’

At that thought, he also shot the gecko ghost a contemptuous look. He had to share a common enemy with the boss, after all.

The gecko ghost really wanted to curse up a storm now. It had been beaten senseless for no reason, only to discover its supposed ally had switched sides. And if that wasn’t enough...

’Why is everyone so hostile to me?!’

’I haven’t done anything here!’

Outside, Su Nian impatiently wiped her hands with a tissue.

"Alright! Let’s keep moving. I’m dying to see what this peeping ghost looks like!"

This time, Su Nian continued along the path until she reached a fork in the road, where she encountered a middle-aged man.

Compared to the other ghosts, this middle-aged man looked completely normal—so normal that it was weird.

Su Nian was some distance away, but she could see the middle-aged male ghost appeared to be cleaning.

Su Nian shifted the suit jacket with the ghosts in it behind her. From the front, it simply looked like she had her hands clasped behind her back as she slowly and casually strolled over.

As she got closer, Su Nian could see that the middle-aged man appeared to be mopping. He was doing it very conscientiously, making sure to go over every spot.

But this behavior was completely bizarre. A janitor... in a haunted amusement park?

Su Nian glanced at him. "You’re mopping the floor?"

The plainly dressed, honest-looking middle-aged man sighed.

"There’s a bit of water on the ground. Just tidying up."

He said it so naturally that it sounded like the truth. Su Nian nodded, not detecting anything strange just yet.

But her eyes drifted to what was behind the middle-aged man’s back. The two of them had something in common: both were holding their hands behind them.

’Just as I thought. He’s weirdly normal.’ Su Nian saw that he was, in fact, holding a mop. But there was something off about it.

The scar-faced ghost had also been carefully scouting, and his scattered eyes caught a glimpse of the mop.

He couldn’t help but shiver. ’I used to think *I* was messed up, but I guess I just haven’t seen enough. Is that a fucking mop head?’

’It’s clearly a thick head of hair! Is this old bastard using someone’s upside-down head as a mop?’

’Holy shit, that’s metal as hell!’

As for Su Nian, she was always very "friendly" toward kindred spirits. She figured she’d just give him a gentle little slap.

Now that she’d confirmed he wasn’t human, but a ghost, Su Nian got ready to give him a proper "greeting."

The middle-aged ghost’s face was a bit chubby, and he wore a wide, beaming smile.

As Su Nian approached, he assumed she was one of his kind.

It wasn’t until Su Nian drew nearer that he realized she seemed to be a person.

’This person is an idiot, though. How could she be here for so long and not realize something’s wrong?’

He grumbled to himself, but the smile on his face remained amiable.

He didn’t want to frighten Su Nian.

"What about you, little lady? What are you doing here? How’d you get in?"

The middle-aged ghost chuckled and asked probing questions.

Su Nian was unfazed. In fact, she sounded annoyed.

"What’s it to you? It’s none of your business!"

The middle-aged ghost had probably never met someone who could flip a switch so fast.

But in the next second, he was all smiles again. "Why don’t I invite you to my place to hang out? I’ve got lots of neat things!"

His smile was greasy. Su Nian couldn’t help but sneer. "A greasy janitor like you thinks he has the right to invite someone like me?"

Su Nian laughed dismissively, her eyes curiously trying to peek behind the middle-aged ghost’s back.

She was just so curious. ’Is the thing he’s holding a person, or another ghost?’

This time, the middle-aged ghost’s expression soured, his eyes flashing with irritation and malice.

When he was alive, he had, in fact, been a janitor.

After he died and became a ghost, he would sometimes still subconsciously perform his old cleaning duties.

But hearing Su Nian’s words made him both furious and humiliated.

He was furious at Su Nian’s nasty tone, but he also thought she was a complete idiot!

’Any normal person would have realized something was wrong by now, but this moron is acting like it’s all perfectly normal, even trying to get a look at what I’m holding. She’s so dumb!’

’I wonder if eating an idiot like this will lower my own IQ.’

But he once again flashed a mouthful of yellow teeth, his supposedly honest face dripping with grease.

"Little lady, let me take you to where I live. This place is crawling with ghosts. It’s very dangerous!"

He said it with an air of deliberate mystery.

Su Nian glanced around. ’Crawling with ghosts?’

He wasn’t entirely wrong. The site chosen for this amusement park was awful. It was in the middle of a wasteland; aside from the park’s structures, everything else was just dilapidated, grassy fields.

But the middle-aged ghost stated this excuse so matter-of-factly. Su Nian had already heard this line when she first got here.

’Don’t these ghosts get any training?’

’Why is their script completely uniform? Aren’t they worried they’ll arouse suspicion by using the same line over and over?’

Su Nian said nothing, and the middle-aged ghost’s smile became even greasier.

"Let’s go. I’ll take you there!"
