Chapter 43: Meet His Family
Quickly she stepped forward and greeted the elder man with a bright smile, treating him like she would have treated her own grandfather.
"Grandpa!" she greeted, only to be taken aback by all the gasps that echoed through the garden almost in sync. Even Dante looked surprised, as Dora worried that she had said something wrong, only to hear the low chuckle of the elder man who stretched out his hand to place it on her shoulder.
A soft smile was on his face and a crinkle in his eyes as he focused his gaze on Isadora, who was relieved by how nice the man was, which made her feel just as comfortable.
"I can’t wait to have more people call me that!" Dora was slightly confused by what he said, only for her eyes to widen the next second, even as a light blush appeared on her cheeks as she realized what exactly he was pointing out—looking at the floor and everywhere else but him as she nodded her head.
It was at this point that the others who had simply been studying her finally opened their mouths to speak and got up from their seats to move closer to her. But even then, they spoke to the elderly man and not her.
"Father, don’t you already have grandchildren!" Namira spoke up with a wild smile on her face, "...or are you saying my grandchildren are not enough?" she continued in a teasing tone, even though there was clearly an iota of seriousness embedded within it.
But instead of responding, the elder man simply laughed again with a sigh as he signaled for them all to sit down, even as he sent someone to call for the others, which made Isadora realize that with such a long table there was no way it was only going to be breakfast with four people.
Namira, Dora already knew, and from what she had seen, the elder man had to be Dante’s grandfather since even Namira, Dante’s aunt, referred to him as father, which meant that the two other middle-aged men, who could be in their sixties, were yet to speak and had to be Furie Bellini and Waren Bellini.
They had soft smiles on their faces, and their expressions weren’t stiff when they met her gaze and went ahead to introduce themselves one after the other as being Dante’s uncles.
"It’s a pity his parents aren’t alive. If they were, they would have been happy at the beautiful woman their son is getting married to!" Furie said with a smile, yet somehow underneath, Isadora couldn’t brush off the feeling that not only was she being mocked, but they also seemed to be throwing jabs at Dante.
Yet Dante’s expression didn’t change as he glanced at them, his gaze mostly focused on Isadora with a loving expression on his face, almost like she was the only thing he could see and nothing else mattered to him but her. Isadora was even extra stunned when he stretched out his hand to intertwine it with hers.
Clearly, he wanted them to act like lovers—an act Isadora instantly got into, which was made easy by the way her cheeks reddened simply from the way Dante brushed his fingers against the back of her hand before leading her over to a seat with her name on it, pulling her chair out for her even as he settled on his own seat beside her.
Isadora couldn’t help but feel a little relieved now that she was seated, realizing that the chances of anything going wrong had reduced as long as they began eating since everyone would be focused more on waiting than actually talking.
Moments later, more people trooped in, even as she raised her gaze up to see Namira stand up to greet a fine-looking man her age, even as two young men in their early thirties followed behind who had to be Namira’s husband, sitting beside her with steady expressions on their faces.
Even as each and every one of the people glanced at her, they instantly realized that she was the odd one out who didn’t seem to belong. Isadora did her best not to look timid in any form or manner, aware of how important first impressions were, even as she felt Dante’s hand on her thigh, glancing at him with wide eyes even as he smirked in return.
She was just about to swipe his hand off her thigh when she heard Namira slowly introduce her children, even as she went ahead to talk about their qualifications first and how they had all studied abroad and already held key positions in the corp.
"Seun Bellini," the first spoke, meeting her gaze with cool eyes.
"Garuni!" the other also spoke, a light frown on his face even as his tone sounded clipped and short.
One after the other, Furie Bellini and Waren Bellini also went ahead to introduce their family, highlighting their achievements first, which seemed to be the most important thing. ƒrēewebnovel.com
Furie had two daughters, even as he mentioned that his first son was abroad and couldn’t make it.
"I’m Alessia," the first spoke with a smile that looked very friendly, and the other simply nodded but with an unwelcoming gaze.
"Anna!" she said, even as Furie mentioned that his son’s name was Marcelo. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Warren only had one son who quietly sat beside him and nodded to Isadora after saying his name without saying anything else.
"Christian!" he said, Isadora meeting his eyes and a bit taken aback by how good he looked. Everyone looked amazing, but he looked especially charming—simply good to look at—even as Isadora nodded at him with a smile, only for her to jerk her legs in shock.
Jerking to look at Dante, who looked relaxed in his chair almost like nothing mundane concerned him, all the while his hand was slowly moving down to her inner thighs, even as Isadora lowered his hand to hold it there, trying to communicate with her eyes only to miserably fail.
’What do you think you’re doing!’ she wanted to snap at him, but clearly, there was no way she could do such a thing at such a crowded table.
It would be like her handing over a reason for them to point out how Dante would dare to marry a commoner that didn’t know how to behave. She was dressed really well, yet there was something in the air that made her feel different—something she couldn’t figure out yet Dante somehow chose that exact moment to continue to slide his hand up her thighs.
