Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Nathan, Safe Journey

Nathan Fawcett followed her upstairs. Anne Sutton said, "You’re leaving, aren’t you? Have you decided what to bring? I’ll help you pack!"

As she spoke, she took out a suitcase. Nathan Fawcett stood to the side and said, "There’s not much to bring."

Anne Sutton looked at him. "Then just some personal clothing will be fine."

She packed two sets of pajamas for him, and since he got cold easily, she also stuffed in some thicker clothes.

While she was folding clothes, Nathan Fawcett walked over and hugged her from behind.

Anne Sutton froze for a moment. "What’s wrong?" she asked.

’They weren’t a real couple, just two people living together for practical reasons. She was in it for the Sutton Family, and he was in it for the child.’

’For him to act like this now that they were about to part... she wasn’t used to it at all.’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Take good care of yourself while I’m gone. If you run into any trouble, tell my dad. You don’t have to worry too much with him around."

Anne Sutton nodded. "I know."

’He’d already told her all of this before!’

’So she really had nothing to worry about.’

After she finished packing Nathan Fawcett’s clothes, she went downstairs and made him a delicious lunch.

’Although she knew that for him, the thing that would probably make him happiest was going to be with his mother.’

...

When it was time for lunch, Chairman Fawcett came over. His son was leaving, and he wanted to have one last meal with him.

After lunch, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett went out for a bit of shopping before returning home.

When they arrived, Stella Shields was already there.

She stood to the side, looked at Nathan Fawcett, and said, "Nathan, Auntie asked me to take you straight to the airport. She’s still at the hospital and won’t be coming here; she’s going to head there directly."

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett nodded. But he still went upstairs and only came back down after watching the maids carry all the things he’d bought for the baby to the upper floor.

A maid had already placed his luggage in the car. Everything inside had been packed by Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching Nathan Fawcett. She didn’t know why, but she realized she was a little sad to see him go.

...

Nathan Fawcett stood looking at her. "Well, I’m off then."

Stella Shields watched them and said to Anne Sutton, "Don’t worry, Ms. Sutton. I’ll take good care of Nathan."

"Okay." Anne Sutton nodded.

’She thought she was being ridiculous. He had Stella Shields, his childhood sweetheart, with him. What right did she have to worry?’

A maid opened the car door. Nathan Fawcett got in, and Stella Shields followed him.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watched him, and waved.

It wasn’t until the car pulled away from the Fawcett residence that she realized she was actually a little sad.

’To him, she was probably just a tool.’

’But in her life, he was different, after all.’

...

After Nathan Fawcett left, she lived alone in his house.

Without him around, things were actually quite relaxing. The household staff became more at ease, no longer having to worry about Nathan Fawcett’s temper flaring up at any moment.

Of course, Anne Sutton was much more relaxed too.

’After all, his temper really could be awful at times.’

She had wanted to move back to the Sutton family home, but Chairman Fawcett refused, saying he’d be more at ease if she stayed here.

He was afraid something might happen to the baby if she went back.

Anne Sutton thought about it and, figuring his concerns were valid, agreed to stay.

At the end of the month, the temperature in Westhaven dropped by more than ten degrees. It was the twenty-ninth day since Nathan Fawcett had left. Anne Sutton was sitting alone on the sofa watching something on her tablet when Chairman Fawcett approached, with Charles Prescott at his side.

Charles Prescott had been recuperating for a month, but his leg still hadn’t fully healed. Lately, whenever he attended public events, it was in a wheelchair.

Anne Sutton looked at Chairman Fawcett and asked, "What brings you here?"

Chairman Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton, his expression heavy. "Nathan... has passed away."

The tablet in Anne Sutton’s hands slipped and landed on her lap with a THUD.

She froze for a second, then picked up the tablet. "Oh," she said.

’She couldn’t describe what she was feeling.’

’She only knew that she would never see that man again!’ freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Chairman Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and lamented with a pained expression, "Now, the only one left for the Fawcett Family... is the child you’re carrying."

Standing by, Charles Prescott said to Chairman Fawcett, "My deepest condolences, Chairman."

"My Nathan," Chairman Fawcett said, "his life was so full of suffering!"

Charles Prescott said, "You must take care of your health. He would worry otherwise. And don’t worry, I will handle everything at the company."

Although Charles Prescott had been recuperating from a car accident, he hadn’t missed a single company meeting, even while confined to a wheelchair.

He was just that kind of driven man.

Perhaps from the pain of losing his son, Chairman Fawcett looked utterly grief-stricken.

He left soon after.

Charles Prescott followed him out but returned a moment later on his own.

Anne Sutton sat on the sofa, her tablet now turned off. Charles Prescott approached her. "What’s the matter?" he asked, looking down at her. "Not happy?"

Anne Sutton shot him a look. "You’ve really got too much time on your hands."

’He put on such a convincing act for the Chairman, but in front of her, he didn’t even try to hide his glee.’

’Nathan Fawcett was gone. How could he not be happy?’

Charles Prescott said, "I know you were only with him for revenge. Putting on an act for the Chairman is one thing, but why are you acting in front of me? Are you really sad? He wasn’t even good to you!"

"..." Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. ’In the time since Nathan Fawcett left, Chairman Fawcett had already announced that the future heir to the Fawcett Family would be her child.’

’Now, Charles Prescott was probably already scheming about her child.’

’She had just seen him, and Chairman Fawcett didn’t seem to be doing well.’

’Devastated by the loss of his beloved son, he probably wouldn’t have the energy to manage her affairs.’

’But she...’

’The child she was carrying was her only hope, and Nathan Fawcett’s only remaining bloodline.’

’Even when she had Nathan Fawcett to back her up, she hadn’t dared to confront the Prescott father and son head-on. How could she possibly do so now?’

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and forced herself to play along. "Alright, you saw right through me."

"What are you having for dinner?" Charles Prescott asked. "Let’s go out and eat together."

"You go ahead," Anne Sutton said. "If the Chairman found out I went to dinner with you right now... what are you trying to do, get me killed?"

She had no desire to go out with Charles Prescott, so she naturally refused.

’After all, even the thought of having a meal with this man disgusted her.’

So she had to find an excuse.

Charles Prescott thought about it and figured she had a point.

Nathan Fawcett had just passed away, and he didn’t want to do anything that would give the Chairman a bad impression of him.

He said to Anne Sutton, "Alright, then. You get some rest. Anne, from now on, no one will ever be able to snatch you away from me again!"

After speaking, he stood up, used the sofa for support to get back into his wheelchair, and then wheeled himself out.

Anne Sutton’s expression turned cold as she watched him go. ’How ridiculous. When had she ever said she would stay with him?’ ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

’Did he really think that without Nathan Fawcett in the world, she would just go with him?’

Anne Sutton picked up her phone and opened her chat conversation with Nathan Fawcett. She had sent him messages asking how he was doing, but he had never replied.

’She knew deep down it was probably because of his mother. His mother hated everything to do with the Fawcett Family, so it was understandable that he wouldn’t stay in contact.’

’But...’

’For him to just be gone like that!’

She picked up her phone and sent a final message: "Nathan, rest in peace."

Because he had died at his mother’s place, his body wasn’t brought back, and the Fawcett Family held no funeral service.

’Perhaps it was for the best. At least this way, she wouldn’t have to watch him be laid to rest.’
