Chapter 50: Chapter 50: He’s Back

"What else could it be?" Mrs. Sutton said. "What could possibly be more important than you? You’re pregnant, and he’s still mixed up with another woman. That woman has a lot of nerve, too. She knew we were coming to see you today, but she still came looking for him. She clearly has no respect for you. From the looks of it, he’s even worse than Charles Prescott. At least Charles doesn’t have such a bad temper."

Seeing her mother actually start praising Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton said, "What’s so great about Charles Prescott? I don’t care how Nathan Fawcett is. I have a child now! You saw Chairman Fawcett’s attitude. Before, he would have never been so polite to us. The only reason he’s so courteous now is because of the baby, isn’t it?"

She was carrying Nathan Fawcett’s child. She didn’t mind how he treated her now. Her relationship with this man was supposed to be nothing more than a partnership.

This thought made Anne Sutton feel much better.

Mrs. Sutton said, "Anne..."

"Mom." Anne Sutton handed her a tissue to wipe her tears. "Don’t cry. I’m fine, really. I’m not sad at all, and I don’t feel wronged. What’s so great about Charles Prescott? Wasn’t he the one who called that Ms. Shields over? He brought her here on purpose just to cause trouble."

"That wasn’t my doing!" Just as Anne Sutton finished speaking, Charles Prescott walked in. freewēbnoveℓ.com

She stared at the man, shocked that he would dare show his face in front of her. "What are you doing here?"

Charles Prescott gazed at her with deep affection and said, "I was a little worried about you, so I came to see how you were." freёwebnovel.com

"Here to gloat, are you?" Anne Sutton stared at him coldly, knowing how overjoyed Charles Prescott must be right now.

However, perhaps because Mrs. Sutton was there, Charles Prescott didn’t laugh out loud.

He said, "Believe it or not, I wasn’t the one who called Stella Shields here. I had no idea she was coming today. I told you before, she and Nathan Fawcett are childhood sweethearts. They’re very close. Anne, look, is there any point in fighting with me like this? Auntie is worried sick about you!"

"Spare me your fake concern." Anne Sutton glanced at her mother and said, "Our family’s business is none of your concern."

"I don’t want to be concerned," Charles Prescott said. "But in this world, who else is there to worry about you but me?"

"You, worried about me?" Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "You certainly don’t look very worried!"

’When Nathan Fawcett asked him to choose between the inheritance and me, didn’t he choose the inheritance without a moment’s hesitation? And now he’s here saying all this! He’s just trying to get my mother on his side.’

Charles Prescott said, "I really didn’t have anything to do with what happened today. I wasn’t the one who called Stella Shields over."

"This has nothing to do with you," Anne Sutton said. "You can go now."

Charles Prescott looked at Mrs. Sutton and said, "Auntie, please talk some sense into Anne. Even though she’s with Nathan Fawcett now, my heart has never left her. If I didn’t love her, I would have broken off our engagement years ago. I wouldn’t have waited until now, would I?"

As for loving Anne Sutton, Charles Prescott felt he had never exaggerated. To him, she was the type of person he took for granted, but the prospect of losing her threatened to make him fly into a rage and fall apart.

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "If you say one more word of this in front of me, I’m going to get the Chairman! I’d love to see if you have the guts to say this in front of him."

’I’m carrying Nathan Fawcett’s child. If he says these things, he’s practically asking for a death wish!’

Charles Prescott said, "I’d say the same thing even if the Chairman were here. Seeing you carrying Nathan Fawcett’s child has killed my heart. Do you think I care about any of that anymore?"

Mrs. Sutton sat to the side, watching Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott said, "I’ll say it again: get rid of the baby! You know how hard a ten-month pregnancy is. Do you really think it’s worth it to have a child for a man like Nathan Fawcett? Once the baby is gone, and after Nathan Fawcett leaves, we can be together! Anne, leave us a way out. Don’t be like this with me, I’m begging you!"

He spoke with exceptional affection.

As if he truly meant it.

Sitting to the side, Mrs. Sutton watched Charles Prescott and even she found him sincere.

Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Anne, I actually think Charles has a point. You don’t have to go through with having this baby."

"Mom." Seeing her mother actually being swayed by Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton was speechless. She looked at Charles Prescott. "Are you leaving or not? I just want to have a word with my mother. Do you have to come and cause trouble here too?"

Charles Prescott stood up and said to Mrs. Sutton, "Auntie, please talk some sense into Anne. Don’t let her do anything foolish. I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll see myself out."

After he spoke, he walked out the door.

Mia Shaw was discussing company matters with Chairman Fawcett, with Sean Sutton listening in at the side.

Charles Prescott had stepped out for a moment and just returned. When Mia Shaw saw him, she stood up and said, "I’m ready to head back."

Charles Prescott looked at her. "I’ll take you."

Chairman Fawcett said, "Charles, we’ll have to trouble you then! Please see Miss Shaw home."

"Don’t worry," Charles Prescott said, walking out the door with Mia Shaw.

For the next two days, Anne Sutton didn’t see Nathan Fawcett.

She assumed he had some business to take care of and would be back after, but he never showed up.

’Maybe now that he has an heir, he doesn’t care anymore. He’s probably off on a romantic getaway with his woman.’

Since she wasn’t working, the days at home were incredibly boring. That evening, as Anne Sutton was lying in bed, a colleague shared some gossip with her. "You know Dr. Linden’s son?"

Dr. Linden had a son who, by all accounts, was incredibly handsome and exceptionally brilliant. Although no one had met him, everyone had heard of him.

People at the hospital often gossiped about what kind of girl would be worthy of him.

Anne Sutton had just seen an interview with Dr. Linden two days ago. She asked, "What about her son?"

"I heard her son died in an accident while traveling abroad. It was even on the news! Look."

After saying that, the colleague sent a link to the news story about the accident in the tourist area for Anne Sutton to see.

Anne Sutton read it for a moment and exchanged a few sad remarks with her colleague... But ultimately, it had nothing to do with her. She didn’t know Dr. Linden, so she didn’t give it much more thought.

After chatting for a while, Anne Sutton started to feel sleepy. She turned off the light and lay in bed. As she was drifting off, she heard the door being pushed open and someone walking in.

It was Nathan Fawcett! He was back!

Before, she probably would have glanced at him, but this time, she ignored him.

Nathan Fawcett got into bed, lay there for a few minutes, and then suddenly wrapped his arms around her from behind...

His body was frigid, as cold as a corpse. His icy fingers grasped her hand.
