Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Hoping They Get Together
He was so furious with Anne Sutton he could only seek comfort from another woman.
Mia Shaw reached out and started unbuttoning his shirt. "Let me help you get some rest."
Charles Prescott stared at her before seizing the initiative, pinning her down on the sofa.
...
Anne Sutton finished her shower and lay down on the bed. She glanced at her phone. Sharon Sutton had sent her another message: "Mom has surgery tomorrow. Are you going to come see her?"
This wasn’t the first message Sharon Sutton had sent. They all hoped Anne Sutton would go back to see their mother.
Anne Sutton wanted to go, but the thought of everything that had happened weighed heavily on her.
But seeing Sharon’s message about the surgery, she decided she would go tomorrow.
As she closed the chat window, she saw Ethan Linden’s contact info. An image of the man surfaced in her mind. She recalled how he had entered her room that afternoon. ’He’s not going to try to come in again later, is he?’
Since it used to be just her and the housekeeper at home, she had never gotten into the habit of locking her door when she slept. Anne Sutton didn’t feel safe now, so she climbed out of bed, locked the door, and then got back in.
...
Yet, when she woke in the middle of the night, Ethan Linden was beside her. She didn’t know how he’d gotten in. He was holding her, kissing her, his manner completely domineering.
"Don’t..."
She tried to refuse, to push him off of her, but it was useless.
He gave her no right to refuse...
’Holy crap, am I really going to sleep with my own brother-in-law?’ ƒreewebɳovel.com
The thought sent Anne Sutton into a panic. Just when she thought everything was beyond saving, she woke up. Opening her eyes, she found herself lying alone in bed. Ethan Linden was not beside her.
The door was shut tight.
Uh...
’So, it was all a dream?’
’Holy crap!’
’How could I have such a weird dream?’
Anne Sutton couldn’t help but silently curse herself.
She got up, washed her face, changed her clothes, and walked out of her room to find that Ethan Linden was already awake.
He was sitting in the study on a call, and the butler was in there with him.
Anne Sutton peeked at them but didn’t say hello, heading downstairs first.
Only after she was gone did Nathan Fawcett look up, his gaze following the direction she had taken.
...
A housekeeper saw Anne Sutton and said, "Good morning, Ma’am."
"I’m going to the hospital," Anne Sutton said. "You don’t need to make my meals today."
With that, she walked out the door and drove herself to the hospital.
When she arrived at the hospital, her father wasn’t there, nor was Sharon Sutton. Only her mother was in the room.
Anne Sutton asked, "Why are you here all alone?"
Mrs. Sutton looked pleasantly surprised to see Anne Sutton. "What are you doing here?"
Anne Sutton sat down. "Where’s Dad?"
"He’s busy with the company. There’s been a lot going on lately, so he couldn’t make it. Anne, why the sudden visit?"
In truth, she hadn’t seen her daughter in a very long time.
"I was just in the area," Anne Sutton said.
The reason she hadn’t wanted to come home all these years was that her mother always took her father’s side.
Even after Sean Sutton had done such awful things, her mother would still plead his case the moment he opened his mouth.
After losing the baby, Anne Sutton had resolved to stay out of the Sutton Family’s affairs for good.
And she certainly didn’t want to see her mother begging her for favors on his behalf.
Mrs. Sutton said, "Anne, I know you hate your father, but the truth is, he..."
"That’s enough," Anne Sutton cut her mother off. "If you say one more word in his defense, I’m leaving right now."
Remembering how she had asked her father to expose Charles Prescott, only for him to help Charles instead, Anne Sutton felt they could no longer be father and daughter. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Just then, Sharon Sutton arrived, and Sean Sutton came with her.
With them was another man who looked to be in his thirties.
He had average looks and a bit of a beer belly.
It was someone Anne Sutton had never seen before.
Sean Sutton saw Anne Sutton and said, "So you came."
Anne Sutton didn’t respond.
Sean Sutton said, "Honestly, I’m still your father. Couldn’t you at least show me some respect in front of others?"
Sharon Sutton said, "Sis."
Mrs. Sutton looked at the unfamiliar man and asked, "Who is this?"
Sean Sutton glanced at the man. "This is Jack Gabe. He was sent by the Fawcett Group to help our company with its affairs. He heard you were sick and wanted to come see you."
Anne Sutton glanced at this Jack Gabe. ’Sent by the Fawcett Group?’
’So, Charles Prescott agreed to take care of Dad’s business after all?’
Sean Sutton said, "Anne, I need to speak with your mother. Why don’t you step out for a moment? You can keep Gabe company."
Anne Sutton looked at her father, sensing he was up to something, but she walked out of the hospital room anyway.
Outside, Jack Gabe turned to Anne Sutton. "So you’re Anne?"
Anne Sutton said, "Let’s hear it. What are you here for?"
Jack Gabe said, "My uncle told me you’re single now. He’s hoping we can get together, so I thought I’d come and see for myself."
"Your uncle?" Anne Sutton was baffled.
Jack Gabe said, "Yes. My uncle is James Sterling, the chairman of the Fawcett Group. He’s on very good terms with both President Prescott and Chairman Prescott. My standards for a partner aren’t high. As long as you can help me raise my child and treat him as your own, that’s good enough. Oh, and as for President Sutton’s Company, I’ll do my best to help him through this crisis."
"..." Anne Sutton laughed. ’So, this was Charles Prescott’s condition for helping the Sutton Family? For me to get together with this Jack Gabe?’
She looked at Jack Gabe. "I may be single, but I’m not interested in you."
Jack Gabe said, "Nathan Fawcett has been gone for a long time. You shouldn’t keep dwelling on the past. You’re not especially beautiful, but I’m the kind of person who values character, so you don’t need to feel self-conscious."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Anne Sutton actually laughed. "Why on earth would I feel self-conscious?"
Jack Gabe said, "I have a corporate job with an annual salary of over 800,000. With my qualifications, I could easily find a woman who’s never been married. If my uncle hadn’t made the introduction, I wouldn’t even be considering you."
"Then by all means, go find one!"
Anne Sutton rolled her eyes at him, not wanting to speak to him any longer.
Seeing she was getting upset, Jack Gabe said, "I didn’t mean it like that. I’m not looking down on you. It’s just... look, our situations are similar. Your husband died, and my wife died. We can definitely understand each other, right?"
"Don’t make me throw you out," Anne Sutton said, not even bothering to look at him.
Just then, Sean Sutton came out of the room. He looked at Jack Gabe and said, "Gabe."
Jack Gabe said to Sean Sutton, "You know what, forget it. I’ll head back for today. It seems Ms. Sutton isn’t very happy to see me."
’With his qualifications, it’s not like he couldn’t find someone else. He had no idea what airs Anne Sutton was putting on. He hadn’t even minded that she was a widow!’
’Besides, her father was the one begging them for a favor, wasn’t he?’
After Jack Gabe left, Sean Sutton turned to Anne Sutton. "So, uh, Anne... what did you think of Gabe?"
