Chapter 106: Chapter 106: You’re Happy?

"Then you figure something out!" Miles Prescott said. "With her running her mouth to Ethan Linden, there’s no telling what he’ll think of us! Right now, Ethan doesn’t know the full picture. Regardless, you were the heir the old master personally appointed. Ethan won’t make trouble for you for no reason."

After all, Ethan Linden was no Nathan Fawcett. Even though he was Chairman Fawcett’s son, he’d had no official standing all these years. People on the outside didn’t even know Chairman Fawcett had another son.

Charles Prescott said, "I’ll do my best."

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Charles Prescott went to open the door and saw a maid standing at the entrance. "Mrs. Prescott has fallen ill," she said. "She’s asking you to come see her."

Charles Prescott asked, "What’s wrong with Grandma?"

It was because of his grandmother’s poor health back then that he’d had Sylvia Warren give birth to the child.

However, she hadn’t passed away in the years since. In fact, her health had improved considerably.

The Prescott men had always been very concerned with their public image, so they couldn’t very well ignore the old woman of the house.

After all, she was still useful for earning them a reputation for being dutiful.

"Go check on her," Miles Prescott said.

’My head is killing me,’ he thought.

Charles Prescott walked out the door and followed the maid to Mrs. Prescott’s room. He saw her lying in bed under the covers, with Leo watching over her.

Charles Prescott said, "Grandma, what’s wrong?"

The old woman opened her eyes, looked at Charles Prescott, and immediately started to wail, "Charles, someone’s bullying me!"

"Who?" Charles Prescott asked, feigning anger. "Who would dare bully my grandma!"

"Who else but that Anne Sutton!" Mrs. Prescott said. "She called me a widow! She has no respect for me at all! You have to teach her a lesson!"

Hearing Anne Sutton’s name, Charles Prescott froze for a moment.

Mrs. Prescott continued, "I was against it when you got engaged to her back then! Look at the state of her now! She even has the nerve to bully me! She ought to take a look around and see whose house this is and who’s in charge!"

Charles Prescott fell silent. ’Before, it was true that he and his father were in charge here.’

’But now...’

’Ethan Linden was back!’

Seeing Charles Prescott’s silence, Mrs. Prescott said, "Why aren’t you saying anything? I’m telling you to kick her out! Or find someone for her and marry her off! Just find anyone! I really don’t want to see her in this house ever again."

Charles Prescott said to his grandmother, "Let me have someone take you and Leo back for now."

Hearing that Charles Prescott wanted to send her away, the old woman was stunned. "My birthday is next month! I want to celebrate it here!"

Of course, Charles Prescott didn’t want his grandmother to stay. Besides, she wasn’t getting along with Anne Sutton at all.

With Ethan Linden here now, he didn’t dare do anything to cross Anne Sutton.

And he certainly wasn’t about to pick a fight with Anne Sutton just for his grandmother.

Seeing him hesitate, Mrs. Prescott said unhappily, "Chairman Fawcett is long gone. Everything here belongs to our family now, so why can’t I live here?"

While she was used to living in the countryside, she had taken a liking to this mansion after arriving.

After all, a single garden here was almost the size of the park back home.

The old woman really didn’t want to leave.

Charles Prescott said, "We’ll come pick you up for your birthday. Things are very busy here right now. My father and I are swamped with work every day, so we don’t have time to look after you." freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"I don’t need anyone to look after me."

’Besides, there are so many more servants here than back in the country!’

Charles Prescott said, "Grandma, I know you’re the most understanding. Please, just go back for now."

Mrs. Prescott said, "But what about Anne Sutton..."

Charles Prescott said, "Don’t worry! I’ll handle it."

"No, I’ll leave after you’ve taken care of her! I can’t stand seeing her living here. She provoked me on purpose today!"

All she wanted now was to get even with Anne Sutton.

Charles Prescott’s patience ran out. He didn’t want to humor his grandmother any longer. "Henry Underwood, arrange for a car. We’re sending my grandmother back later."

Henry Underwood nodded. "Yes, sir."

Charles Prescott stood up. "I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be going now."

With that, he told the maid to take good care of Mrs. Prescott, and then he left the room.

He was already annoyed, and after this scene from his grandmother, he felt even more irritated.

...

Anne Sutton changed her clothes and came out, as she was having dinner with Nathan Fawcett that evening.

Nathan Fawcett was waiting for her in the car, holding Ian.

As she walked out, a butler held the car door open for her, and she got in.

She glanced at Nathan Fawcett, then at Ian, giving the boy a small smile.

As the driver pulled away, they passed the entrance of the main house, where Anne saw Mrs. Prescott and Leo.

Henry Underwood said, "Madam, please get in the car."

Mrs. Prescott retorted, "Where’s Charles? I want to see him! I’m not leaving! If he doesn’t come, I won’t leave!"

Anne Sutton had the driver stop the car, rolled down the window, and asked Henry Underwood, "What’s going on here?"

Henry Underwood glanced at Anne Sutton. He knew she was just there to enjoy the drama, but he had no choice but to answer.

Henry Underwood said, "Mr. Prescott instructed me to escort his grandmother and the young master back."

Anne Sutton looked at Mrs. Prescott and said, "But it looks to me like she doesn’t want to leave."

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Mrs. Prescott immediately retorted, "You haven’t left, so why should I? I’m going to make Charles kick you out of this house!"

Anne Sutton looked at Henry Underwood and said with an air of great magnanimity, "Mrs. Prescott isn’t in good health. If she doesn’t want to leave, then just let her stay! Why must you insist on sending her away?"

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Henry Underwood exclaimed, "Ms. Sutton!"

Mrs. Prescott also looked at Anne Sutton in disbelief. ’What’s going on? Is Anne Sutton actually speaking up for me?’

"Let her stay," Anne Sutton told Henry Underwood. "You can say it was my decision."

Henry Underwood said, "But Mr. Prescott has already..."

"What? I’m Charles Prescott’s aunt now. Don’t my words carry any weight in this house?" Anne Sutton said, deliberately pulling rank.

’With Ethan Linden showing up, Charles must have a splitting headache right now.’

’He only wants to send the old woman away to get some peace and quiet!’

’But peace and quiet? He can dream on!’

When Mrs. Prescott heard what Anne Sutton said, she was even more determined not to leave.

After all, she wanted to stay and see who would come out on top between her and Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton rolled up the window and settled back in her seat, looking pleased with herself.

Nathan Fawcett sat beside her, watching her silently. "You’re enjoying yourself?"

Anne Sutton peeked at him, feeling like a child caught with her hand in the cookie jar. With an innocent expression, she said, "I just felt sorry for the old woman. I was just helping her! I mean, think about it. At her age, her son and grandson are dead set on shipping her off to the countryside. That’s a pretty rough lot in life, don’t you think?"

Nathan Fawcett was silent.

If he hadn’t seen her bickering with the old woman that afternoon, he would have believed her.

’She had simply seen that Mrs. Prescott was about to be sent away and that Charles Prescott didn’t dare make trouble for her. Having gained the upper hand, she no longer wanted the old woman to leave.’

’On the contrary, she wanted the old woman to stay and continue making trouble for Charles Prescott.’
