Chapter 85: Chapter 85
Pain like this should be illegal.
Every inch of Dron’s body hurt.
He stayed as still as he could while the transport was moving. It dawned on him that a few times he fell in and out of consciousness. Not for very long, just for a few moments, but it was always enough to get his heart pumping with worry.
The blade that sliced his arm must have had some sort of long-term poisonous serum on it. The cut wasn’t very deep, but it pulsed in agony with every beat of his heart.
He worried that he’d pass out and not wake up. The only thing keeping him tethered to this world right now was that every time he opened his eyes, Tempest was there watching him. Fussing over him. Making sure that he was comfortable.
He had to pull through this for her.
Had to make sure that she was taken care of. But first he had to make sure she showered. Dron could still smell that cad Prince Jaqen on her skin; even sitting across from her in the transport, it was as if his nose picked up on the exact inch of skin the other alpha had touched.
His senses had never been this acute before. Especially when he was stuck in an alpha primal rage. It wasn’t just his sense of smell either. He could see farther. He could see the tiny specks of gold deep within Tempest’s irises. Something he hadn’t noticed before.
He was completely in tune with his body, which is how he knew the cut on his arm was going to be a problem very soon. He could nearly feel his organs trying to shut down. He needed to get into the life nectar as soon as possible. Dron was actually surprised that the poison had this much of an effect on him at all. He wasn’t due for another dose of the life nectar for many moon cycles. It should have fought off the effects of any poison. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Dron didn’t want to think about it. Didn’t want to focus on something that he could control. All he could control was his breathing. He would breathe for Tempest.
Breathe life into whatever they were quickly turning into.
"Dron. I need you to talk to me. You’ve been silent this whole time. I’m going out of my mind. Please say something. Anything. Tell me you hate me for bringing you into this mess." Tempest ran her fingers roughly through her hair . "This is all my fault. I should’ve never pushed to go see the other classes. We would’ve been safe in our little home. Safe and happy."
"Stop... it..." Dron gritted.
"Stop what?" Tempest questioned as if she didn’t know what he was referring to.
"Stop....blame...not your fault." Dron did his best to get the words out but every time he moved his mouth it felt like someone was cutting him with the blade all over again.
"Then whose fault is it? I’m sure they’ve never done this to you before. It’s because I’m here that this happened."
Dron tried to move, but the second he extended his leg, the deep cut in his upper leg lost the clot that was keeping it from leaking blood, and it began to run down his leg again.
"Shit!" Tempest leapt across the small space between them and pressed down hard on his leg as she saw what was happening.
He wanted to tell her not to worry. Not to sully her hands with his blood, but he just didn’t have the energy to do so.
The trip back to his home seemed to be taking much longer than before. He was tempted to look over and see how far they had to go, but just the thought of moving that much caused another wave of pain to jolt through his body.
Still in all the pain, he was grateful that Tempest was here with him.
"I thought you were supposed to be immortal or something. Why isn’t your leg healing?" Tempest questioned as she pressed down harder on the wound.
"It is...just going to take a minute." Dron responded. He could already feel the blood starting to slow again. Soon it would clot, and by tomorrow it would be completely healed even if he didn’t bathe in the life nectar.
Finally the transport slowed and started its descent.
They were home.
"Okay, let’s get you fixed up. Come on. I need you to help me." Tempest did her best to gently lift Dron from the seat, but it was pure agony for him. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Dron tried to clamp his mouth shut so he didn’t cry out, but Tempest grimaced as he growled deep in his chest. She must’ve known just how much this was hurting him.
"I’m sorry. I’ll go slow. I promise." Tempest looked up into Dron’s eyes. He hated seeing the worry there. Not because he thought she was pitying him, but there should be nothing but smiles on the beautiful omega’s face.
Slowly, the two of them walked along the quiet expanse of Dron’s property and they got inside. Dron worried about what was outside. Usually before he went in for the night he would check the perimeter just to make sure no one or nothing was around but he just couldn’t do it. The world was swirling in his vision with each step.
"What can I do? What do you need?" Tempest questioned, gently running a hand down the front of his body.
"I can do it." Dron grunted out.
"Now isn’t the time to be proud Dron. You’ve got nothing to prove to me. Tell me how to help you."
Dron closed his eyes for a second trying to focus. He needed to get into the life nectar.
"The armor. I need to get it off." He said as he turned slightly in the direction of the bathroom where the life nectar tub was.
"Okay, let’s go." Tempest continued on her slow pace, making sure to jostle Dron as little as possible.
They made their way into the bathroom, and Dron held himself up using the wall. Slowly, Tempest began removing the armor piece by piece. It was a simple thing, but it was probably the most intimate anyone had ever been with Dron.
She was taking care of him. Showing him that she was concerned about him. There was no disgust or judgment on her face. Only love.
Dron cursed his body for being broken at that moment. What he really wanted to do was show her how much he appreciated her. He wanted to be the one taking care of her.
He leaned forward without much thought or any hint of permission and pressed a soft kiss to Tempest’s lips.
She froze for a second as if she weren’t expecting him to do that.
"What was that for?" She finally asked when he backed away and continued to lean on the wall.
"I don’t know. It felt right. Did you not like it?" Dron asked, hoping he hadn’t crossed a line.
"You can kiss me anytime you want Dron. I’ll always like it." She replied, and he couldn’t help but smile.
He leaned in again, but this time she was ready for him. Her kiss was warm and soft. It revved Dron up. He wanted more. This time she was the one to back away.
"Let’s not get too carried away. You’re hurt."
"I’m not that hurt." Dron grunted and tried to move back in for another kiss.
"Dron." Tempest tilted her head and pointed to his arm.
"Fine." He grumbled. It sounded more like a pout, but he wasn’t going to pay attention to it. The woman was absolutely addictive. A constant temptation.
Still, she was right. Dron had to get into the life nectar so he could get better. If anything were to happen right now, there was no way that he could protect her. At least not to his standards.
After Tempest managed to get all the armor and clothes off Dron she turned on the tap that allowed the life nectar to fill the tub. Dron waited for a few moments before he slipped in.
Instantly he felt the healing properties pulsing in his body. The wound on his leg began to stitch itself up immediately. The aches and pains in his body lessened and lessened.
A few moments later he should’ve been all healed up...he wasn’t.
The cut on his arm still throbbed and slowly leaked blood into the life nectar. It wasn’t healing. Dron was clear headed and looked down at the cut. He couldn’t understand why it wasn’t healing. He’d never had anything like this happen to him. It shouldn’t have been possible.
"What’s wrong?" Tempest asked from where she was standing near the other side of the tub. She didn’t want to leave him alone, but now Dron wished that she had. He didn’t want to admit to her that something was wrong. That he was still in danger.
"The wound on my arm. It’s not healing." He examined the cut again, pressing at the jagged sides of it. The second his fingers even grazed the area, a rush of pain scorched through his body.
Whatever he was poisoned with wasn’t getting better with the Life Nectar. In fact, it seemed to be getting worse.
