Chapter 50: Chapter 50

Elara POV

I enter the mansion and walk straight to the quarters where Anton is held. I do not trust the asshole, but something has been bugging me since the kidnapping, and I am on a mission to unravel all the mysteries surrounding me.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Maxim blocks the entryway, arms crossed against his chest.

“Test your vampire strength, and kick his ass,” Lily giggles.

“I’m facing my kidnapper,” I reply, ignoring Lily’s joke even though I think it is one hell of an idea.

“You’re not authorised to do so,” he says firmly.

“Oh, really,” I raise my eyebrows, mimicking his stance and crossing my arms. “And will you be the one telling the alphas that you’re denying me closure and to process my trauma, or should I?”

Maxim stares blankly at me and does not reply.

“Oh, come on,” I sigh. “What am I possibly going to do besides talk to him?”

“Let her through, Maxim,” Axel says behind me, and I swing around in surprise.

“Thank you,” I smile brightly, put my arm around his neck, and kiss him.

“No funny business, okay,” he whispers, holding me closer.

“I promise,” pulling away and smirking at Maxim. Take that, you brute.

“Told you,” I mutter under my breath when I pass Maxim and enter the room.

Anton is sitting in a chair, staring out the window, and when he turns towards me, he looks ten years older. freēwebnovel.com

“You must be enjoying this,” he grimaces. “Locking me up after I locked you up.”

“Hm, yes,” I shrug. “But I’m not here to gloat.”

“It’s ironic, isn’t it?” He snorts as I sit on the sofa across from him. “The alphas fought so hard against the match, and look, you’re exactly where we planned you to be.”

“Except for Alice,” I reply, informing him about the pregnancy.

“Well, that’s unfortunate,” he sighs, intertwining his bony fingers. “Your offspring would’ve been much stronger.”

“You see, that’s what I don’t understand,” I lean forward, resting my elbows on my knees. “The High Council wants to murder hybrids, but you matched me with the alphas. What if I had their pups? They would be hybrids. How are you going to justify killing them?”

“I know you think of me as the enemy,” he sighs. “But I’m not, and I wish I could tell you everything and help you understand. However, you’re in enough shit as it is. Telling you more would mean certain death for you.”

“Dead is dead,” I laugh humourlessly. “Once the High Council realises who I am, it’s off with my head.”

“True,” he chuckles. “That’s why I locked you up while you are in heat. So, they don’t figure it out.”

“You’re still not answering my question,” I say firmly. “You knew what I was before the ceremony. You practically admit that much when you told me about my mother and the poison. Why did you mate me to the alphas if you want to kill me anyway?” ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

“Not me, the council,” he sighs. “I don’t want you dead. I want you to have the alphas’ babies. We need stronger wolves, and a hybrid alpha will be unstoppable.”

“Are you working against the council?” I gasp when I register his words.

“Don’t be stupid,” he scoffs. “I am simply more of uh, visionary than the rest of them.”

I stare at him in disbelief. He is talking crazy, but somehow it makes sense. A hybrid alpha would be the strongest of them all.

“Let’s say you pull this off,” I continue after a moment. “And the first hybrid alpha is born. How will that child survive? As soon as he or she turns eighteen, the Council will figure it out and kill. A two-decade plan down the drain.”

“There is a way,” he smiles slyly. “But I’m not prepared to share that with you.”

“Bullshit!” I snap, standing up. “I’m calling it. I’m a hybrid, not an idiot. You want to use my lineage and the alphas for your own disgusting agenda.”

“I’m not ...”

“Oh, shut up, Hitler,” I cut him off. “I’m not becoming your fucking incubator for your superbabies.”

“It’s not about a superrace,” he growls, his eyes blazing. “I’m trying to fix the past. People fear what they don’t understand. And they hate what they fear. The council hates everyone who is not a wolf shifter. That’s why they want to kill you. But if hybrids are the rulers, the alphas, they will have no choice but to adjust. We need to coexist and avoid another war. I need you to have the alphas’ babies.”

His last words shock me to my core.

“So, you want to use our babies for your benefit?” I am so disgusted that I must force the words over my lips.

“Everyone’s benefit,” he replies eagerly.

“Fuck you, Anton,” I huff, turn around and walk out. He is sorely mistaken if he thinks I am going to reproduce for his agenda.

I slam the door shut behind me, ignore Maxim and march to my quarters. I need a shower to wash off Anton’s words. I feel icky just thinking about it.

I kick off my shoes and open the taps. I remove my pants, but when I pull my t-shirt over my head, dizziness overcomes me, and I grab the towel railing for support. I swallow hard on the bile that rises in my throat.

“Damn,” I mumble and sit on the cold tiles.

I pull up my legs and place my head between my knees. I am so lightheaded, it is crazy. It must be because I skipped breakfast, but I feel too weak to get up and walk to the kitchen.

I wait a couple more minutes and sit up, relieved when the feeling passes. I pull myself up and close the taps. First food, then a shower. I grab my robe behind the door, put it on before I walk to the kitchen on unsteady feet, open the fridge, and grab a juice and a banana.

My fingers are trembling when I pull out a chair and sit.

“Oh, goddess,” I groan when a fresh wave of dizziness gets hold of me. I leave the food, rest my head on the counter, and close my eyes.
