Chapter 206: Chapter 206
Mason POV
I am sweaty and exhausted by the time I reach Stillwood. Stillwood ... the name fits. There is not a soul in sight. It is equally sad and depressing that this place turned into a ghost town within hours. I walk past the place where we started the fire and notice with shock that a couple of houses have burned down.
I walk through the ashes and find three bodies. We burned all the subjects Gustav had brought that day. He must be furious with us for killing his pets. Which is a good thing. That means he will hunt my brothers down with more determination.
I enter Elara’s house, walk to her laundry basket and pick out a dirty blouse. I rub it against my face and inhale her scent deeply. Ah, Elara, my spirited woman, but I will break that spirit, and she will worship me when I am done.
I grab a bag from her closet and throw more dirty laundry in there. Once I have recruited trackers to help, they will need her scent. After today, they will be on the run, and I must find her first before I get our kids. I will take my time and be meticulous. I cannot afford any mistakes. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
I walk to the kitchen, make myself a sandwich and quietly enjoy it as I put my plan together. I throw my clothes in the washing machine and take a shower before climbing into Elara’s bed for a nap.
Tonight is going to be busy.
Elara POV
I wake up from moaning sounds beside me, and I sit up abruptly. Mindy is sitting beside Kane, and I blink a few times to ensure my mind is not playing tricks on me. If she is here, it means Braden got away safely.
“What are you doing?” I croak, wiping over my eyes.
“Cleaning his wounds with antiseptic,” she replies softly. “But he doesn’t like it.”
“Maybe you’re pressing too hard,” I suggest, but she shakes her head.
“Remember when we were kids and I broke my nose at cheerleading practice?” She asks, and I nod. “Well, mine wasn’t nearly this bad, and it hurt like a bitch. I hope you have bucket loads of painkillers, because he’s going to need them when he wakes up.”
“We do,” I yawn, lying back into the pillows. “How long have you been here?”
“Hmm, about an hour,” she replies, glancing at her watch before continuing her task at hand. “Maxim and Monroe are preparing a late lunch, and I don’t know what Axel and Braden are up to. We’re leaving at dusk.”
“I’m going to kill Mason,” I grunt, looking at Kane. His pain is so severe that he is moaning while he is unconscious.
“Just take a shower before you do,” Mindy replies dryly. “You want to look classy when you take him down.”
“You could’ve just told me I need a shower,” I chuckle, standing up.
“No need for me to state the obvious,” she smirks.
I take a long, hot shower and feel much better when I am done. I only wish that the water could calm my anger. Mason has done a lot of despicable things, but this is something I will never forgive him for.
“The food’s ready,” Mindy says when I enter the room again. “Go eat, I’ll join you when I’m done with Kane.”
“Thank you for taking such good care of him,” I smile.
“You saved my mate,” she says, looking at me. “This is the least I can do.”
“You would do the same for me,” I reply, blowing her a kiss and walking to the kitchen.
I find the men gather around the kitchen table, and I join them.
“Is this any good?” I tease, looking at the bread and soup.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s good or not,” Maxim replies. “It’s food.”
“And it’s liquid,” Monroe adds. “So Alpha Kane can also eat when he wakes up.”
Their words warm my heart, and I look away to hide my emotions. I am so grateful that we have such good and loyal friends.
Braden’s phone rings, breaking the silence, and we all look curiously at him.
“Unknown number,” he replies, answering our curiosity, stands up and leaves the room.
“You guys can cook,” I say after my first bite. “Mindy’s lucky.”
“Please,” Maxim rolls his eyes. “We’re the lucky ones, she taught us.”
“She taught you because she hates cooking,” I chuckle. “You got played, gentlemen.” fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
“We know, and we don’t mind,” Monroe shrugs. “Now, we have one more way to please her.”
“That was Orson,” Braden announces when he enters the kitchen, and we drop our conversation to look at him. “The witch working at the facility. He wants to meet us.”
“Do you think he’s willing to help?” Axel asks eagerly.
“It sounds like it,” Braden replies, taking a seat. “We’ll know tomorrow.”
“Oh, no!” I gasp when the realisation strikes me. “The potions! I left it in the truck when we ...”
“Don’t worry,” Braden silences me, placing his hand on mine. “I got it.”
“Thank Goddess,” I sigh in relief. “We would’ve been so screwed without that.”
“I was thinking,” Braden says hesitantly. “Mindy should go with you when you enter the facility.”
“No fucking way!” Maxim and Monroe protest in unison. “It’s too dangerous. We don’t mind going.”
“Guys, just listen,” Braden says patiently. “You’re the ones who told me she’s like Houdini. That’s a skill none of us possesses, and we might need that.”
“And I’ll be with her every step of the way,” I say, surprised by the news, but also proud of my friend.
“I was thinking that you must sit one out,” Axel says, looking at me. “If something goes wrong, and they get their hands on you, they might turn you into one of those things.”
“I’ve been inside once, and escaped,” I say firmly. “I know the inside better than anyone here. I’m going.”
“Guys,” Mindy interrupts us softly. “Kane’s awake.”
