Chapter 190: Chapter 190

Asher POV

Sweat starts beading on my forehead, and I wipe it off irritably. Either these monstrosities with their glowing eyes are making me nervous, or the potion is working out. Whatever the reason, I am not feeling too good and fear the worst.

I am still stuck in the Council with Gustav and his pets, and I have no fucking idea how to get out of here.

Gustav, on the other hand, parades around like a mother with her newborns, bragging about their abilities. And I do not give a shit if they are immortal, I only want to ... wait.

“Did you say immortal?” I ask Gustav.

“Yes,” he smiles contentedly. “All thanks to their vampire blood. And with a little help from us, they are immune to silver and, well, mostly anything. Bullets, arrows, wooden stakes, you name it. They’re unstoppable, stronger, and faster than any other being on this planet. But the best part is that they are completely loyal. They will not disobey any order from a member of the Council.”

“Fascinating,” I mutter, but truthfully, I want to shit my pants. There is no way of stopping these things. If the Council sets free these things, we will be in deep shit, and there will be nowhere to hide.

“Elder Gustav!” A guard yells, storming into the room without knocking. “They’re escaping.”

“Who is?” Gustav frowns, confused.

“Everybody!” The guard shrieks. “We don’t know what happened, but the cells are unlocked, and everyone is escaping.”

“Well, that’s unfortunate,” Gustav replies dryly, but his devious smile carries a different message.

“My children,” Gustav addresses his beasts, and my blood turns to ice when I realise what is about to happen.

“Capture them,” he orders. “Each and every one of them. If they resist, kill them.”

My eyes widen when they nod in unison and march outside.

“Well?” Gustav asks, raising his eyebrows. “What are you waiting for? Join them.”

“Y ... yes, sir,” I stutter, and run after them. ƒreewebɳovel.com

This situation is fucked up, but at least they are not hunting me. I am using this moment to get out of this forsaken place. I will get Quinn and Mother and get the fuck out of this state. Fuck Mason and his master plan. I am not challenging these things.

Elara POV

I send a gust of wind with the speed of a hurricane at the beast, but he keeps on coming. I might as well have sneezed. Actually, a sneeze might have been more effective because at least he would have been covered in snot.

It comes for me at an alarming speed, and I duck to the right and behind a tree just in time. His focus is completely on me, and I sigh in relief when I notice Mindy and her mates escape.

“Here, puppy, puppy,” I taunt the monster when it seems he is about to look their way, and I smile when my plan works.

“Can you climb a tree, motherfucker?” I sneer, extending my claws and climbing the tree as fast as I can.

The monster howls, nearly bursting my eardrums, and he storms the tree headfirst. He collides with the tree with a thunderous thud, and I must cling for dear life not to fall out.

“Clever, Elara,” I mutter to myself as I cling to the tree and ready myself for the second impact as the beast takes a step back, digs his paw into the dirt and storms the tree again. How the fuck am I supposed to get out of this mess?

I am not suicidal, and would very much like to live, but I came here with a purpose, and that is to save Mindy and her mates. If I do not make it, well ... at least my life meant something.

“Axel, Kane, is everyone safe?” I mind link them.

“Yes, but where are you?” Kane replies with panic in his voice.

“Get out of here,” I say, closing my eyes and clinging to the tree when the beast storms the tree again. “I’ll catch up.”

“We’re not leaving without you,” Axel says adamantly.

“Maxim needs urgent care,” I insist. “I’ll be fine.”

“You can argue all you want, we’re not leaving you,” Kane says.

“Fine,” I huff. “Just give me a moment, but if you are spotted, get out of here, okay? We came here to save our friends, not get them killed.”

I reach for a medium-sized branch and break it off. With a pounding heart, I wait for the beast to storm the tree again, and when he does, I jump out of the tree, the branch pointed downwards. I land on its back and force the branch into the beast’s neck.

It howls, jerking onto its hind legs, and I fall into the dirt. I do not waste time, and I hurriedly get on my feet. I point my hands towards the dirt, creating an angry, mini hurricane right in front of it, kicking sand into its eyes.

The monster claws at his eyes and steps backwards while I slowly retreat. I keep my eyes on him, and my hurricane follows him as he moves, putting more space between us.

The next moment, Kane and Axel’s wolves rush past me, and I gasp when they sink their fangs into the monster’s legs. He bites and growls at them while they pull his front legs in opposite directions, and I kill the hurricane when I notice that it is harming my mates and not helping them.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” I mutter before I shift and run to help.

I jump on the monster’s back and sink my fangs into its neck. He howls in pain, and it distracts him long enough for Kane and Axel to rip his front legs off. But instead of dying, it lies there, crying and yelping. The limbs flopping like fish in a second-grade horror movie.

A growl behind me makes me turn around, and I see another test subject coming towards us.

“Oh, shit,” I mind link my mates. “We better get out of here.”

We start running, but when I look around, I see the thing on our heels, catching up too fast.

“We’re not going to make it,” Axel pants.

“And we’re leading it straight to the truck,” Kane adds. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

“Kane, I’m going to shift and climb onto your back,” I say. “Keep running, I’ll fuck up their sight.”

“Hurry!” Axel says as Kane stops.

I shift, climb backwards on Kane’s back, and they start running again. I quickly say a prayer to the Goddess and lift my hands. I summon the wind from all sides and direct it at the wolves chasing us. I concentrate on picking up as much sand and leaves as I possibly can, and soon, all I can see is their glowing eyes.

We reach the truck, and I glide off Kane’s back. We get into the truck, and Mason speeds away.

“Elara,” Kane whispers, and I look at him. “They’re still coming.”
