Chapter 179: Chapter 179

Selena POV

I am a trembling mess as I stare into Mason’s smouldering brown eyes. He oozes sexuality and desire. Sexuality and desire that I am dying to explore. I have butterflies in my stomach from simply looking at him, and my stomach dives if I think about how my body will react if he touches me.

And Elara is wrong about him. He is not dangerous; he is in pain. He has lost his love, and his children are all he has left, and they are being threatened now.

Suddenly, I am angry with Elara. How could she break this wonderful man’s heart? He has not done anything other than love her.

“I promise,” I smile, looking intensely at him. “I will care for your children as if they were my own.”

“Thank you,” he smiles, and he is looking so deeply into my eyes that my heart rate picks up, and I silently beg that he would lean over and kiss me. “Once it is safe, I will come for you and my kids.”

“Do you mean that?” I ask hopefully. Please, Goddess, I pray. Let that mean that he is coming for me as his future mate.

“I promise,” he smiles, and goosebumps jump up all over my skin when he gently traces a finger down my cheek and neck.

“I have one last request,” he whispers, his lips coming closer to mine.

“I’m listening,” I say, but my words are barely audible.

“Keep this between us, please,” he replies. “I’m afraid that Elara might not approve if she knows.”

“Right,” I breathe. “She’ll be jealous.”

“Yes,” he says, leaning closer, and my heart stops momentarily when his lips brush over mine.

“Just you and me,” I nod, disappointed that he is pulling away and not deepening the kiss.

“Just us,” he smiles, and his words send delightful shivers down my spine.

“Let’s go inside,” he says, standing up and holding out a hand. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

I happily accept his hand and smile brightly when he intertwines our fingers and leads the way home.

It feels like I am walking on a cloud. Elara was right about one thing – you can pick your own mate, and I pick Mason. Keeping us a secret will be a small price to pay for our happy ending.

Elara POV

With every piece of Stella’s clothing I pack, my heart breaks a little bit. I am sending my baby away for goddess knows how long, and I do not know if I will survive. I have stopped fighting the tears, and I am ugly crying as I pack. I am sending my baby away, and fuck what anybody else thinks.

Everybody tells you about the overwhelming love for a child, but there is no way in hell a person can fathom it until you are one. Loving a child is the most unconditional, selfless and sacred love there is. It cannot be compared to anything. Not even to Axel and Kane, whom I love to death. Or Mother and Selena.

“Elara,” Selena says softly behind me, and I turn around. “May I come in?”

“Y ... yes,” I sniff, looking at a pink onesie.

“Are you okay?” She asks, walking closer. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you cry before.” freewebnoveℓ.com

Selena is exaggerating. Of course, I have cried before. This is just the first time I cry over nothing. Mother might understand, but not Selena. She is not a mother.

“No,” I cry, holding the onesie out to Selena. “She’ll outgrow this soon, and I’m going to miss it.”

“Why don’t you come with us?” Selena asks, pulling me into a hug. “Let the men fight the war.”

“We’re fighting the Council, Selena,” I sniff, pulling away from her. “Not a neighbouring pack. I’m a hybrid, and they need my help. You’ll understand once you get your wolf and hybrid powers.”

“You know, I’m really getting sick of being told I’m too young to understand,” she snaps, crossing her arms. “I’ll be eighteen in two months, not two years.”

“It has nothing to do with your age,” I grunt, wiping my tears. “You can be two seconds away, for all I care. For fuck’s sake, I didn’t even get it until I turned nineteen. I didn’t even fully comprehend it when I got my powers. It only dawned on me when the people I cared for were in danger and they needed my help.”

“People like Mason?” Selena asks, raising her eyebrows, and I frown.

Now, why would she ask such a thing? Why ask about Mason and not my mates or Stella?

“Selena, if there’s something you want to know, just ask, okay?” I say firmly, my tears now gone thanks to her peculiar demeanour.

“Fine,” she raises her chin. “Do you love Mason?”

“Goddess, no,” I huff, completely off guard by her question. “I love my mates, like true love-love.”

“But you had a relationship,” she reasons.

“Only for a moment,” I reply, sharply. “It never developed into something more.”

“But it could’ve if you weren’t reunited with your mates, right?” She persists.

“Selena, where are you going with this?” I sigh, looking at her.

“I’m only curious,” she shrugs. “Mason’s hot and seems like a good guy. And your mates, well ... they might be decent now, but they treated you like crap. It would be only logical to fall in love with Mason.”

“But I didn’t,” I say firmly. “I forgave Kane and Axel. I don’t even think about what they’ve done to me. It’s the rest of the world that remembers and reminds me. They’re good, Selena. They love me, and they treat me well. I’m happy. Does that answer your question?”

“Yes,” she nods, and an uneasiness grows inside me when she mysteriously smiles.

“Selena, what did Mason say to you?” I ask, narrowing my eyes. I have this feeling that fucker has something to do with this line of questioning, and I do not like it one bit.

“Besides that, you left him for your mates, nothing,” she replies without blinking. “And I needed you to explain to me why you chose your mates after what they’ve done to you.”

“And are you satisfied?” I ask, not entirely convinced about her answer.

“Yes,” she smiles. “You’re happy, and that’s all I want for you.”

“And I for you,” I reply. “One day, this will be over, and I hope that you’ll find the same love I have.”

“Thank you, Elara,” she smiles, hugging me tightly before she leaves my room.

For a moment, I stare at the door which closed behind her. I meant that I only want what is best for her; I just hope and pray that it is not Mason.
