Chapter 152: Chapter 152

Kane POV

I am so happy Elara said that because I wanted to. But Mason expects criticism from me, but he might listen when it comes from Elara.

Axel and I are really doing our absolute best to accommodate and accept Mason. He is our half-brother, and we owe it to him. But dammit, he makes it impossible to completely trust and like him. He fights us on everything, and Elara might be blind to it, but if we give him an inch, he will move in on Elara. And that is the main reason why I cannot and will not trust him.

“Sorry to interrupt,” Mother enters the room. “But we need supplies. The fridge is practically empty, and Stella needs bigger diapers.”

“Bigger diapers?” Elara frowns. “But she’s younger than the twins. How’s that possible?"

“Her growth is unprecedented,” Mother replies. “But I guess that’s to be expected from a hybrid. We should ask your mother, Elara. She can tell us if the same happened with you and Selena.”

“Are you saying my kids are underdeveloped?” Mason growls, his eyes blazing. “Because their mother was a hybrid, too, and I’m also an alpha.” freewёbnoνel.com

“Oh, sit down, and tuck away your feelings,” Elara snaps. “Nobody is saying there is something wrong with your kids. We’re saying Stella is going to be a big and tall girl.”

“Unlike her mother,” Axel chuckles, and Elara playfully punches his shoulder.

“There’s nothing wrong with any of the kids,” Mother intervenes. “Stella is growing faster, that’s all. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with her. Anyway, I made a list of what we need.”

“Mason and I will get it,” Axel offers, standing up.

“And alert the Council of your whereabouts?” Mason snorts. “This might be a rogue town, but people still talk. I’ll go alone.”

“No,” Elara shakes her head. “I’ll go with you. It’s unfair that you should go alone.”

“Why?” I mind link confused. It is grocery shopping, not brain surgery.

“To keep an eye on him,” she replies. “Before the dumbass agrees to another date with a unicorn, or something.”

“That sounds great,” Mason smiles brightly, and I am instantly irritated. I bet he cannot wait to be alone with my mate. Asshole.

“Okay,” Elara nods. “Let’s go.”

Axel POV

I clench my fists and look at the floor as Elara and Mason walk out. It kills me that they will be spending time alone. I should not be jealous, but I am. I know Elara would not do or allow anything to happen, but just the knowledge that Mason will try infuriates me.

“We should talk,” Kane’s voice is dark and ominous.

“I know,” I sigh. “But I think it would be easier to kill him.”

“I would if it could solve our problems,” he grunts, sitting down on the couch. “I’m talking about us, about our pack. Do you realise that since the Council arrested us, we’ve been hiding? Our pack’s in lockdown and under the Council’s tyranny, and we’re hiding like cowards.”

“I know,” I exhale deeply, bowing my head. “It’s been bugging me as well, but with rescuing the twins, and everything ... ah, man, I haven’t thought about it as much as I should have.”

“Especially since you’re the voice of reason in all this chaos,” he smiles drily. “It must be a full-time job keeping all of us from ripping one another apart.”

“Something like that,” I snort.

“The only way we can help our pack is if we get rid of the Council,” he continues. “And we’re two against everyone.”

“Four, if you count Elara and Mason,” I add. “Elara is one hell of a fighter; we have seen her. Plus, with her element power, she can count as ten.”

“It’s still not enough,” he shakes his head. “And I know we have a truce with Mason, but I do not trust him. He is selfish and reckless. I mean, look at this shit with Rhiannon.” freewebnovёl.ƈom

“I agree,” I nod. “But he has friends who can help us take down the council. Hell, he rallied an army to take us down. Why not use that army to overthrow the council?”

“Even if it kills us?” He raises his eyebrows.

“Even if they kill us,” I nod. “He hates us, but he loves Elara and the kids. They’ll be safe, our pack will be free, and that’s all that matters.”

“It will hurt Elara,” Kane says solemnly. “If we die, it will hurt her. You saw Mother the other day. Her grief and pain. What if it will be worse for Elara because she has two mates?”

“I guess that we should do our best not to die,” I shrug nonchalantly.

“My thoughts exactly,” Kane laughs humourlessly. “That’s why I was thinking we should summon Braden and Malachi. We’re going to need all the help we can get, because I’m not planning on stopping with the Council. That facility must burn.”

“Maybe we should start there first,” I say, sitting up straight. “At the very least, it will rattle them.”

“And place them on full alert,” Kane snorts, rubbing his chin, but then he looks at me as if he just remembered something. “Elara overheard something when she rescued the twins. Something about a coven of vampires taking out Alphas. Do you think that only referred to Malachi and Orion or something bigger?”

“Damn,” I slam my fist into my hand. “We really need ears and eyes. This going in blind is fucking frustrating.”

“Maxim and Monroe,” Kane shouts, jumping up. “They’ll know, we must find them.”

“If they’re still alive,” I grunt, grinding my teeth. “They were loyal to us. My bet is, they’re either locked up or dead.”

“We have to start somewhere,” Kane replies, and I notice a fire and excitement that I have not seen before. “We’ll start there. But one thing that’s a fact is that we cannot hide any longer. We’re not helping, we’re not solving anything and that makes us pathetic alphas. Alphas. Plural. We’re supposed to be twice as strong.”

“Yes, okay,” I nod, inspired by his eagerness. “It’s time to prove to ourselves and our pack that we’re worthy of the title.”
