Chapter 117: Chapter 117
Kane POV
Axel and I lock eyes, contemplating our next move. Which is hard, because we are each holding a baby.
The huge guard turns sideways, and his face brightens when he sees Elara. An evil grin spread across his face.
“Who do we have here?” He sniffs in Elara’s direction. “The Council will be very pleased that I found you.”
“Don’t fucking touch her,” I growl.
“You’re in no position to give me orders,” the guard grunts, facing me again.
A movement behind the car catches my eye. Braden and Mason are creeping up slowly, silently. What the fuck were they both doing here?
I exchange an uneasy glance with Axel.
“Take Lanie from me. I’m going to attack this motherfucker,” I will him to hear me even though the silver chains have dampen our strength.
“Do it now,” he responds to my surprise.
But before I can act, Elara leaps forward, tackling the guard to the ground. She drops her fangs and bites into his neck. The guard screams, kicking and thrashing wildly.
“He’s going to give away our fucking location making all that noise,” Axel says. “We need to get the fuck out of here.”
Elara releases the guard, places her knee in his back, lifts his head and snaps his neck.
“Problem solve,” she says, wiping the blood from her face.
Momentarily, Axel and I are too impressed and too surprised to react. Elara has always been cheeky, but I never knew she could be this tough.
“Are you insane?” Mason runs forward. “You could’ve been killed, and this will give the Council even more of a reason to get you.”
“Oh, shut up,” Elara sneers. “I didn’t see you doing anything to help.”
“We were on our way,” Braden grins, looking with admiration at Elara. “But well done on your first kill.”
“Thanks,” Elara nods, and turns to us. “Are you okay?”
“Uhm, yeah,” I nod, clearing my throat. I have never been more attracted to her than at this very moment. “Thank you.”
She throws her arms around me, and I hold her tightly, Lanie nestled between us. I close my eyes and breathe her in. She lets go, turns to Axel and hugs him as well.
“As endearing as this is,” Braden says. “We’re not in the clear.”
“Right,” Elara pulls away from Axel. “I’ll take care of the body.”
“No, we’ll do it,” I say hastily. “It’s the least we can do after you saved us.”
“My kill, my responsibility,” Elara shakes her head, kneeling beside the body and picking up his feet. Braden runs closer and helps her load the body into the trunk.
“Does someone want to explain what the fuck he’s doing here?” Axel asks, nodding toward Mason. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
“I’m here to gather evidence against you,” Mason sneers sarcastically.
“You can compare dick sizes later,” Elara scoffs. “We need to leave, or else we’ll be swarmed with guards.”
“Everyone, get in,” Braden instructs, getting behind the wheel.
Axel and I get into the back with Elara, each of us holding a baby.
“Braden, where are you taking us?” I ask as he speeds off.
“To my cabin,” Braden says, shooting me an annoying little grin in the rearview mirror. “You’ll be safe there.”
Elara POV
Oh, Goddess, please let it be a spacious cabin, I pray silently. I am surrounded by too much testosterone and am in no mood to keep the peace. They might kill each other before the Council even had the chance.
“Am I the only one wondering if it’s wise to trust this bloodsucker?” Mason growls.
“You can trust me,” Braden answers. “I have good reason to want Elara safe, and it’s got nothing to do with wanting to get in her pants.”
“Thanks for that, Braden,” I snap. I must deal with so many things, and I just added a kill to the list. I do not want to think about my messed-up love life.
“If this guy doesn’t shut the fuck up, I’m going to make him,” Mason mumbles.
“So, what happened to Anton?” I change the subject.
“He returned to the Council,” Braden replies.
“I still can’t believe he’s one of the good guys,” I shake my head. He risked his neck to break Kane and Axel out of prison.
“Believe it,” Braden says, telling Kane and Axel up on all the terrible shit Orion is doing with hybrids. “Anton’s been helping me play both sides and get the information I need to figure out what the fuck Orion is up to. He seems to be the only Elder who cares about protecting the lives of she-wolves and hybrids.”
I wonder why that is. When every other male Elder seems obsessed with exercising power over us, why does Anton want to be a protector?
It suddenly hits me that we are quickly speeding away from Constantine territory, and my heart stops.
“Wait, what about my family?” I ask, terrified. “If Orion’s been using Selena to gather information about me, then she and Mother are in danger.”
“I’m keeping an eye on them,” Braden reassures. “They’re safer not seeing you or knowing anything about where you’ve gone.”
“But what if the Guards or the Elders torture them?” I ask. The thought is unimaginable.
“Orion and any Guards will be able to tell whether or not your sister is lying to them,” Braden replies. “They have no reason to hurt her as long as she stays in the dark.”
I nod and swallow hard. What can I say? I do not want to put my sister through the torture of having to meet with Orion, but I also cannot put Stella in more danger. It is an impossible situation.
Plus, leaving them behind means not seeing them for who knows how long again. And I already had to say goodbye to Mindy back at the mansion. I told her to go back to her family’s place for the time being and take shelter there, but it was horrible to leave her behind.
“Have faith, Elara.” Kane puts his arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer even though we were already packed tightly together in the seat. “Everything will be fine.”
I close my eyes and lean my head against his chest. When would things be normal again?
Finally, Braden slows down and pulls off onto a winding dirt path. He comes to a stop in front of a tiny cabin tucked far away in the woods. It looks like it could not be more than a couple of rooms. Guess having spaces of our own was wishful thinking.
“Welcome to my enchanted abode,” Braden says. “This is where you’ll be hiding out.”
“Urgh, how many bedrooms does this place have?” Mason asks.
“Just the one,” Braden replies. “So, you’ll have to get creative.”
One room? And three men?
Hell no, the cabin will turn into a bloodbath.
