Chapter 100: Chapter 100

Katie POV

There is an awkward silence when Rhiannon leaves the room to get me the potion. Axel, Kane and Gabriela are still gossiping or whatever in a room. Leaving me alone with Mason, the babies and Braden.

Mason looks at me intensely, and it seems like he wants to come over and talk to me, but I turn my back on him and sit beside Braden. I cannot face him right now; I am too conflicted. I must first come to terms with everything I heard now.

“Now you know everything I know about you,” Braden says softly.

“Why didn’t you tell me I was a hybrid?” I ask urgently.

“Seriously?” He raises his eyebrows, pointing at his wound. “I would’ve if your boyfriend didn’t attack me, and we had more time.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I hiss.

“So,” he sighs. “How do you feel about this?”

“Angry,” I admit. “No, I’m enraged.”

“Because nobody told you, or because you are one?” He asks empathetically.

“Because I didn’t know. I want to ring the fucker’s neck who placed a spell on me,” I grunt. “Sure, I might’ve agreed to it. I don’t know, I can’t remember, and I don’t give a shit. My life is fucked because of it. And Gabriela knew. She always has, and she is not saying shit.”

“I know Gabriela well,” Braden replies. “If she had anything to do with this, it would’ve been to protect you, or someone else. I don’t know her as a vindictive person.”

“You honestly don’t know who put a spell on me?” I ask, desperately. “If I can get to the source, then ...”

“I don’t know,” he interrupts me, slightly shaking his head. “I was told you left because Anton kidnapped you.”

“I was kidnapped?” My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

“Because you were in heat, and drove the entire male population insane with lust,” Braden chuckles. “Female hybrids have that effect.”

“Interesting,” I nod. “Does my scent have that effect only when I’m in heat?”

“Actually, no,” he replies. “Your blood and scent are intoxicating all the time, but when you’re in heat, it’s worse.”

I fumble with my fingers, overthinking his words. I do not like it. How am I supposed to know if somebody’s feelings for me are true or if my scent overwhelms them?

“What does all of this mean for Stella?” I sigh, nervous butterflies creating havoc in my gut.

“That, I can’t answer,” he says, looking at me sadly. “We need to know more about you and her father before we can speculate.”

“This is such a fuckup,” I sigh, dropping my head in my hands. If it were only me, it would have been a breeze, but Stella ... she is my everything. She is all I have. And Braden. The thought strikes me like lightning.

Braden proved himself to be a true friend. He is the only one who has not lied to me, who told me the truth, and who did not try to get into my pants.

“I want you to drink my blood,” I look intensely at Braden, taking his cold hand in mine. “You can’t die; I need you in my life.”

“I won’t,” he smiles weakly. “It’s too dangerous for you.”

“You won’t drain me,” I argue, squeezing his hand. “You’re my friend, I trust you.”

“I don’t trust myself,” he reasons.

“Look around you,” I say urgently. “We can make you stop. We’ll call the dude with the silver hands to zap you, or Mason can bite you again. There are ways, Braden. We must try.”

“Katie, I can’t ...”

“You can,” I cut him off adamantly. “You’re my only friend, and I’m not losing you.”

Rhiannon enters the room, and I drop the conversation when she hands me a tiny bottle with bright pink liquid.

“This may or may not work,” she says apologetically. “But it won’t harm you in any way, even if it’s ineffective.”

“Great, thanks,” I smile, and immediately drink it.

“Holy shit, it’s sour,” I cough, my facial muscles pulling in all directions and my body shuddering.

“I know,” Rhiannon smiles mischievously.

“How can you just blindly trust a witch and drink what she gives you?” Mason growls from the corner.

“That’s how we sluts roll,” I snap, and he shoots a poisonous look at me before turning away. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

“Am I missing something?” Rhiannon frowns, looking from me to Mason.

But Gabriela enters the room, and I shake my head. There is no need for everyone to know what happened between me and Mason.

“What are you doing?” Gabriela huffs, her eyes big with shock.

“We’re trying to reverse the spell,” I reply. “I want my memories back.”

“Did it work?” Gabriela shallows, intertwining her fingers.

I look at her with narrow eyes. Why does it seem that she does not want my memories to return? I might respect Gabriela, but I know she is keeping secrets, and it annoys the shit out of me.

“I don’t know,” I shrug, looking at Rhiannon. “Should I feel it or ... I don’t know, something.”

“You’re looking for a mild headache,” Rhiannon replies. “And a little nausea.”

“I feel perfectly fine,” I shrug.

“Damn, it didn’t take,” Rhiannon sighs, but I look at Gabriela and do not miss the relief washing over her face.

“It’s okay,” I reply, even though disappointment flows through me. “You warned me it could happen.”

“I’ll make something stronger,” Rhiannon smiles. “But you’ll have to wait six hours before you can take it.”

“That’s perfect,” Gabriela smiles brightly. “It’s been a long night, and all of us should rest.”

“Good idea,” Rhiannon agrees. “Your rooms are prepared and down that hallway.”

“What about Braden?” I protest. “We can’t just leave him here.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll look after him,” Rhiannon smiles stiffly.

“No,” I stand up, shaking my head. “I insist he stays with me. No offence, Rhiannon, I trust you, but you know better than I that vampires aren’t welcome here. I think he will be safer with me in my room.” frёewebnoѵēl.com

“I said I was sorry!” Mason explodes.

“I’m not referring to you,” I snap in return, rolling my eyes. “Witches don’t like vampires either.”

“Katie’s right,” Rhiannon steps forward. “There are too many conflicted emotions. Braden should stay with her.”

“Thank you,” I say, reaching for Braden and helping him stand. “We’ll see you at lunch.”
