Chapter 5: Monster

Nervousness and restlessness were unavoidable for Mateo, who had no experience with romance—let alone a strange relationship like this.

"Mateo! Mateo! Are you inside?"

Suddenly, loud knocks echoed from the dorm door, startling both Mateo and Jack.

"William?" Jack stood up in confusion and walked over to open it, revealing a thin man with long hair.

"Mateo, can you help me?" William asked as he immediately stepped inside.

Mateo couldn’t help but feel confused hearing that.

"Where are you? Let’s go back to the Magic World—I’ll meet you there and explain everything," William said.

"William, just explain it here. What kind of help do you need? Mateo is still new—he doesn’t really have any power yet. He can’t handle anything dangerous," Jack replied.

"It’s not dangerous—but it’s important. I need someone I can trust," William said firmly.

"I’m at the library. Just explain it there," Mateo finally said.

"Yeah..." William looked relieved.

He then sat on Jack’s bed—and immediately fell asleep. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Jack rolled his eyes.

"What is he even trying to do?" he muttered.

"Mateo, if it’s dangerous, don’t force yourself. You know what it means to enter the Magic World. Some people go insane when their bodies die over there."

"Yeah..." Mateo nodded.

After that, he lay down again and fell asleep, returning to the Magic World.

The moment he appeared, he saw William running toward him.

"Mateo! Here’s the situation—I found a cave, and there’s a rare treasure inside," he said.

"But it’s guarded by a Level 10 monster. I can’t fight it head-on. But I can lure it away. I just need you to grab the treasure and bring it back. Of course, I’ll pay you."

"Oh... but it’s safe, right?" Mateo asked.

"Don’t worry. We’ll take a safe route. Follow me!" William said as he started moving.

Mateo followed him.

"William, how strong are you right now?" Mateo asked curiously.

"I’m still in the Initiate Realm, but I’ve gathered over 5,000 Spiritual Energy here. My total accumulation is over 6,000," William replied.

"How long did it take you to get that strong?"

"More than two months. That’s actually considered slow. I even had to spend System Points. My talent isn’t that great," William said honestly.

DING!

(You have obtained 4000 Spiritual Energy at the cost of 5 Energy Points!)

A notification suddenly appeared just moments after Mateo heard William’s stats.

He felt behind—and wanted more Spiritual Energy.

Unexpectedly, it increased instantly.

Although it costs 5 Energy Points, his Spiritual Energy is now five times greater.

Power surged through his body.

As they reached the edge of the town, Mateo saw towering walls about ten meters high.

The gates were open.

Those entering were briefly inspected, while those leaving were ignored.

Outside, tall trees stretched endlessly, with several dirt roads about five meters wide branching into smaller paths leading deep into the forest.

"There!" William led him into one of the narrow paths.

Mateo followed.

Faintly, he felt like he could hear breathing all around them.

"William... are there really this many monsters outside?" Mateo asked.

"Yeah. There are a lot. They’re hidden—but as long as we don’t step into their territory, they won’t attack," William replied.

"So the whole world is filled with monsters?"

"Not really. It depends on the region. Some areas are completely safe because of powerful Magi. But for people from Earth... we always spawn in monster-heavy zones."

"I see..."

As time passed, Mateo began to feel like he was walking through a maze—not an actual one, but a forest full of winding paths.

"There!" William suddenly stopped and nudged Mateo.

Following his gaze, Mateo saw a large cave.

It was dark.

But inside, something faintly glowed—a bright green light.

"Where’s the monster?" Mateo asked, confused.

"You’ll see it. Stay here. Once you grab the treasure, leave immediately. Other monsters will come to guard the cave," William said.

Then suddenly—he jumped toward the cave.

With enhanced strength, his leap spanned more than ten meters.

It looked like he used wind to propel himself forward.

BANG!

The moment he landed, the ground in front of the cave burst open.

Mateo saw a massive earth serpent emerge and charge straight at William.

It was over ten meters long—and its open mouth was nearly the size of a dorm door.

DING!

(Level 10 Monster!)

A notification appeared.

Mateo gasped.

Meanwhile, William immediately ran.

His speed was astonishing—like an arrow shot from a bow.

But the serpent was nearly just as fast, slithering across the ground.

Mateo didn’t know how far it would chase him.

Since his task was to retrieve the treasure, he quickly entered the cave, which smelled of damp moss.

He was curious about the glowing object.

From afar, it looked like it was lying on the ground.

But as he got closer, he saw it was placed on top of a rock.

It was a small bottle filled with green liquid.

DING!

(You have found a bottle of Extract from the Primordial Life Element—a rare liquid capable of healing all severe injuries in a short time!)

(You have obtained your first treasure. Inventory has been unlocked in your System. You can store unlimited items by simply thinking about sending them inside!)

Two notifications appeared.

Mateo was stunned after reading the first one.

Extract from the Primordial Life Element?

Wasn’t that one of his elements?

Was this really a rare treasure?

Curious, Mateo decided to look deeper into the cave.

He conjured a flame in his palm.

It was red—ordinary in appearance.

But even though it was only the size of his hand, its light illuminated the entire cave like a 1000-watt lamp.

Everything became clearly visible, despite how vast the cave was.

Mateo felt slightly dazzled—but no heat at all.

However, the moss around him quickly withered, releasing smoke as if it were being burned.

"A sword..."

At the far end of the cave, Mateo saw a massive sword.

It was as long as his entire body, about 40 cm wide, and embedded upright in the ground.

He walked toward it, storing the green liquid bottle into his Inventory.

DING!

(You have found an A-Class Weapon!)

The System informed him.

He grabbed the handle—

—and frowned.

It was incredibly heavy.

He couldn’t pull it out.

DING!

(You must bind the weapon with your blood for it to adapt to your strength. A single drop of blood is sufficient!)

Another notification appeared.

"A drop of blood..."

Mateo wasn’t afraid of minor injuries.

But he still didn’t have the courage to hurt himself.

Instead, he tried storing the sword into his Inventory—

—and it disappeared instantly.

ROOOARGHH!!

Suddenly, Mateo heard a deep, hoarse roar behind him.

It was low—but it shook the air.

When he turned around—

his body trembled.
