Chapter 27: See Lucas Again
Feeling delighted, Mateo returned to Earth and sent Jack a message.
(Come back. Let’s find a good restaurant for lunch!)
He had failed to treat him yesterday, so he decided to make up for it today at a better place.
Only a minute after he sent the message, Jack woke up from his sleep, looking completely refreshed.
"Hey, is Alice coming too?" he asked.
Mateo rolled his eyes.
"I’m not inviting Alice, just you..." he replied.
"Don’t be like that. Invite Alice too. Doesn’t it look ridiculous if it’s just the two of us? There’s not even a girl in our group," Jack said.
"Maybe she’s busy," Mateo answered.
"What kind of business could stop her from meeting her boyfriend? Just invite her. It’ll probably make her happy."
"Really?" Mateo scratched his head.
He had no idea why Jack was so eager to involve Alice.
But after being pressured, he eventually sent her a message.
(Would you like to have lunch together today? My treat. But if you’re busy, don’t force yourself...)
"Oh, Mateo, you’re way too timid. At this rate, when are you ever going to get her into your bedroom..." Jack shook his head after reading the message.
Just as Mateo was about to respond, Alice’s reply arrived.
(Sure. Where? Do you want me to pick you up?)
Alice had actually agreed.
"Where?" Mateo looked at Jack.
He still hadn’t decided on a location. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Of course, he didn’t want to trouble Alice by making her come pick him up.
"Tokyo Restaurant. Tell her Tokyo Restaurant. I’ve wanted to eat there for a long time..." Jack said excitedly.
Since Mateo had never eaten Japanese food before, he became curious about the place.
He quickly typed another message.
(Tokyo Restaurant. No need to pick me up. I’ll take a taxi.)
(Alright. Wait for me there. I might be a little late...)
"Hahaha, now I’ll order a taxi!" Jack laughed happily.
Mateo shook his head.
After tidying up his appearance, he and Jack left the dormitory and waited outside for the taxi to arrive.
However, the first person to appear wasn’t the taxi.
It was Lucas White, accompanied by the curly-haired youth.
He walked quickly toward them, and it seemed he had intended to come to their dormitory from the very beginning.
"Mateo, can you explain what happened? How were you there? Didn’t you just Awaken? How did you get so deep into the Grass Forest? And do you know how the Lion King suddenly lost its treasure?"
The barrage of questions left Mateo frozen, while Jack stared in shock.
"Mateo, is he telling the truth? You actually went all the way to the Lion King’s territory in the Grass Forest?" Jack asked as well.
"I was just wandering around and ended up there," Mateo replied.
"Ridiculous. You must’ve relied on something to get there," Lucas said, clearly unconvinced.
Naturally, he didn’t think Mateo had already become that powerful. However, sometimes people stumbled upon rare artifacts that allowed them to do extraordinary things.
Lucas’s gaze sharpened.
"It wasn’t you, was it? The one who took that item?"
"What do you mean?" Mateo pretended to be confused.
"The Star Wheel. You were hiding nearby, so you must’ve heard everything."
"I did hear it. But like you said, I was hiding there after hearing the commotion ahead. How could I possibly take something like that?"
"That’s exactly what I want to know."
"Lucas, your accusation is completely unreasonable," Jack interjected.
"It’s my instinct," Lucas replied indifferently.
"Hahaha! You’re accusing someone based on instinct? That’s ridiculous." Jack burst out laughing.
Yet Lucas continued staring at Mateo.
"If you’re holding something too valuable, you’d better be prepared for the consequences," he said coldly before turning around and leaving.
Mateo stood there silently, his brows furrowed.
Why had things suddenly become like this?
"Mateo, don’t tell me he’s right? Do you actually have some special ability? The Star Wheel—do you know how much that’s worth?" Jack immediately started firing questions one after another.
Mateo smacked his arm.
"That’s ridiculous."
A taxi stopped right after he said that.
He immediately got inside, followed by Jack, who still looked suspicious.
It was the weekend.
The streets were quieter than usual, but the stores remained open.
The restaurant they were heading to wasn’t very far away.
It was a large four-story restaurant packed with customers.
All of the employees were Japanese.
After paying the taxi fare, Mateo and Jack got out, but they didn’t rush inside.
They still had to wait for Alice, who had said she would be a little late.
"What exactly do you want from Alice?" Mateo asked Jack.
Hearing that, the latter smiled faintly.
"What else? I hope she’ll give me some help with my growth. We’re both in Fallen Rose City. It’s really not easy surviving there without support."
"Fallen Rose City..."
Mateo, who had just shipped something there, became somewhat curious.
However, he chose not to ask anything.
He was worried Jack would bombard him with even more questions.
From time to time, he glanced into the restaurant.
The aroma occasionally drifted outside, making him hungry.
Noodles, broth, and meat.
Ramen.
Watching other people eat it made him crave it.
Not long afterward, a motorcycle stopped in front of him and Jack.
It was a large black Ninja motorcycle ridden by a woman with long black hair.
She wore a leather jacket and a full-face helmet, but both of them instantly recognized her.
Alice.
Neither of them had expected her to arrive on a motorcycle.
She removed her helmet, revealing a beautiful face that immediately attracted everyone’s attention.
"Why are you waiting out here? You should’ve waited inside," Alice said as she stepped off the motorcycle.
Her gaze rested solely on Mateo.
"Yeah, it’s more comfortable out here," Mateo replied softly.
"Then let’s go inside."
Alice walked into the restaurant first.
"Do you want the first floor, second floor, third floor, fourth floor, or the rooftop?" she asked Mateo.
"Let’s go to the rooftop."
"Alright."
Alice led the way toward the elevator.
The three of them stepped inside.
It was obvious that Jack wanted to talk to Alice, but it was difficult for him because she still hadn’t looked at him even once.
"After this, come to the mall with me," Alice suddenly said to Mateo.
Go to the mall?
How could he possibly not want that?
But what about Jack?
Jack knew he wasn’t being invited.
Besides, there was only one motorcycle.
Was he supposed to take a taxi and follow them by himself?
Still, he wasn’t that petty.
He gave Mateo a meaningful wink.
Even though Alice seemed completely unaware of his presence, Jack felt it was enough just to make an appearance.
The important thing was that she knew he was one of Mateo’s close friends.
